Singular: Is (one, such as a player) Plural: Are (two or more, such as a team)

Singular example: Marian Gaborik is a professional ice hockey player for the Minnesota Wild Plural example: The Minnesota Wild are a professional ice hockey team.

I don’t know what country you are from and it may be different for you, but in America, the way it was prior to your changes is correct. If you look at other NHL wikipedia team pages, such as the Detroit Red Wings, you will that is shown the correct way. Please don’t change it again.
