You're a user I trust often in notability issues. Could you take a look at Finola Hackett? She's the runner-up in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. As I said on the talk page, we only have 3 articles on champions (out of 79 competitions), let alone on runners-up. I'm trying to get some more users to review it because I'm not sure if it should be AfDed or not. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm a Passaic County resident as well. Metros232 03:20, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball stubs sorted[edit]

Just wanted to tell you that I've sorted the remaining Americans from the Category:Basketball biography stubs. Something still needs to be done about the category since all but 200 entries were Americans, so the new category already holds more than 1,000 articles. Truffles[edit]

Shape is definately the hardest thing to get right, there's just so many variables that can be slightly off and it'll not hold its shape easily. Just last Friday I took the same recipe, and used it to make truffle covered oreos and with the remainder I poured it into a small square (wax-papered) cake pan to harden in the fridge and broke it into fudge squares. (Shape was much easier that way). I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed them still. Charlie( t | e ) 05:27, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Where am I from? Hmm, It has been so long, do you know, I do not remember any longer. Beyond the depths of time I would imagine. My interest in editing Wikipedia is to bring fact into articles. I have noticed, unfortunately, that fact seems to be missing in some of the articles. Although there are some very good ones, as well. I thought I would try my hand at editing an encyclopedia, in any case. Theyshallsee God 05:49, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crzrussian, thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for adminship, it passed with a final tally of (65/3/3) - which I find both amazing and humbling. I wish I had time to thank everyone personally, but I'm afraid all I can offer is this token of my gratitude. I hope to live up to your expectations/hopes. Speedy delete Cole Stefan[edit]

I had added the speedy delete tag to the Cole Stefan page, and you removed it, stating that notability was asserted. While the article says that he is famous, it gives no reason at all to believe so, and gives nothing even remotely verifiable. This seems to be in agreement with Wikipedia: deletion of vanity articles, which says that "For instance, "John Doe is good at chess" does not assert significance. "John Doe won the UK National Chess Trophy in 1994" does." It's no big deal, and the article is on AfD anyway now, but I just wondered... Is it a difference in interpretation of the Speedy delete for vanity bios, or is it a more strict rule and should I use the Speedy delete less (see e.g. also Cynthia Spiriti)? Fram 15:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to keep the speedy delete for the blatant cases, and tag the real but IMO non notable people with a 'normal' delete tag. Please, if I make other mistakes against normal Wikipedia processing that you notice, do tell me, as that is the only way to know it. Fram 21:05, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vadium Technology[edit]

Hello Crzrussian,

Thank you for sending the newbie information. I'll continue to become more familiar with the policies and suggestions here.

In regards to your suggestion of deleting Vadium Technology, please consider that Vadium has taken a firm, controversial stand on a subject that affects everyone as we as a society increasingly rely upon electronic information and encryption of data.

Historically, all conventional encryption algorithms have failed given increases in computing power. Current advances (there are many examples but please take a look at the Sony Playstation which is essentially a supercomputer designed to work in a linux beuwolf cluster)are providing attackers ample means to successfully break traditional encryption algorithms (it's well documented that AES has been broken.)

The issue of significance of what Vadium represents is clear: Our societies increased reliance on information security has exposed a soft underbelly due to the widespread acceptance of encryption algorithms that are already failing.

Vadium has a solution that is very controverserial and has industry experts (Bruce Schneier)on the offensive. Our society / consumers need to have the opportunity to better understand where industry experts are leading us as these decisions today made by few have significant ramifications (identity theft is just the beginning) for many.

---perhaps this issue should be added to the submitted article. Your comments would be most appreciated.

Well, it's kind of a philosophical question, and the answer depends on what you prefer: WP:IAR or WP:PI. If you do some out-of-process actions and nobody complains, it's generally OK. As for me, I prefer to act like I'm an ordinary user, and I don't think my admin duties include deleting every article I don't like. That may not be very efficient at times.

Bottom line: choose for yourself :) Conscious 15:25, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for having failed to offer my congratulations sooner. Funnily enough, during the week of your RfA, I found myself disagreeing with you more frequently than ever I had before (on a few RfAs and AfDs), but you never disappointed; you offered reasonable and thoughtful [if wrong :) ] arguments (although I was a bit concerned by your reflexive desire to accede to anything to which NSLE affixed his imprimatur, if only because I'd found NSLE to be a fine admin but a sometimes doctrinaire editor (who amongst us isn't, though?), but we'll let that one slide. In any case, I'm finishing up a few projects and will then take a run at the two articles about which we've talked before. In the meanwhile, now that you have admin tools, perhaps our plan to impose a Russian and/or Jewish POV on, and then protect, every article will move beyond the inchoate (you know, even though I'm an anti-statist atheist); 37th Chess Olympiad (my latest project), for example, should be edited to reflect that Israel and Russia would have won but for their having scored fewer points than the Armenians, Chinese, and Americans. Alright, I think I've reached my 100 unnecessary and sesquipedalian words, so I'll simply offer my congratulations once more, noting that I'm certain that, as Nesher, et al., have observed, you'll make a fine admin and benefit the project. Just wondering on Your Image (non)deletion[edit]

Image:TanyaR.jpg (ul. on 10:46, 13 June 2006) is copy of Image:TanyaRob.jpg (ul. on 10:53, 13 June 2006), but You just removed the speedy notice and said: "not a duplicate, rmv CSD"? Criteria for speedy deletion for Images/Media #1 says clearly: "Redundant. An image that is a redundant copy, in the same image file format and same or lower resolution, of something else on Wikipedia. This does not apply to images duplicated on Wikimedia Commons..." Just wondering. feydey 01:47, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for quick reply. You say: "They're scaled copies of each other, but they're different in size and thus not identical." So You understand the policy as: "lower resolution" is not the same as "different in size"? feydey 02:10, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Take this recent upload: Image:Joe franchino.jpg how do I see on the page the resolution of that image? feydey 02:14, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Or how about the resolutions of these 2 images: Image:Jlstonyawards.jpg, Image:Jlstonys.jpg? Already deleted.... Here is a third Image:Jlsiglertonyawardsa.jpg . feydey 02:18, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elease Evans[edit]

I support your RfA, and this is the thanks I get, a Prod for Elease Evans? And to think I was going to add a Mazel Tov of my own, LOL. Evans is the Freeholder Director, the highest-ranking government official in Passaic County, which has a population of nearly 500,000 people. There are almost 50 articles in Category:New Jersey County Freeholders, several of which have already been through the AfD mill, all unsuccessfully. If there are specific changes, I will be more than happy to make the changes. Otherwise, I will continue with my work on freeholders for Essex County, which are still outstanding. These changes are all part of WP:NJ, a continuing effort to fill in the holes and expand details regarding all things related to New Jersey. I think that all of us at WP:NJ can be proud of how much work has been done to add articles for school districts, high schools, roads, every state senator and assembly member, and about one-third of all freeholders. Subst and Finola Hackett[edit]

My mistake for substing - thanks for pointing that out. As far as the Finola Hackett AFD, "finishing 2nd" didn't strike me as a proper assertion of notability. I don't think it's necessary to question how well I've read WP:CSD or to reply to my recommendation in AFD with an exclamatory remark. It was only my opinion. Not a very neighborly approach - especially when you consider I supported your RFA. PJM 03:03, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey -- sorry about that, I thought I had saved my comment but apparently not. All I can say in response is "huh?" Tomertalk 02:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've read your response, and now I'm even more confused than ever. Are you trying to say that an article shouldn't be protected by an uninvolved 3rd party if one of the disputants is not an admin? I think taking into consideration an edit warrior's "feelings" when deciding whether or not to stop an edit war in which they're involved is ahem...crazy. Wikipedia is not a support group, it's an online encyclopedia. Edit warring is counterproductive to creating or improving articles and should be discouraged as strongly as possible where ever it's found and without regard for whom it involves or concern for how offended they might feel if their antiproductive activities are stopped by force. db-corp[edit]

Hey -- on careful rereading, I see you're right. "Organization" used to be in the {{db-bio}} text, and I have sometimes used the idea of an organization with no notability claimed to tag articles on companies for speedy deletion and never gotten a complaint. At one point I saw a db- template that put red letters up saying "this is not a speedy deletion criteria", but I couldn't find it just now: maybe that's what we should change db-corp to? Or maybe it could do a {subst:prod|WP:CORP, no assertion of notability} as the code? Mangojuicetalk 06:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Gotem[edit]

Crzrussian, the Gotem and Polfbroekstraat articles are nonsense, no matter what The Raven tries to say. They are both unrelated streets (minimal hamlets), with no notability at all. Gotem does not appear in the List of Belgian municipalities by population, nor do they appear in the quite complete Municipalities of Flemish Brabant. Gotem is actually a hamlet of Borgloon, which as a whole only has some 10,000 inhabitants. As you can see at the Dutch language wikipedia, Gotem is there a small hamlet in Borgloon, nothing more. The way the article is presented now and the previous times is nothing but vandalism. Polfbroekstraat doesn't even have an article on the Dutch language Wikipedia. Re: G4[edit]

Thanks for notifying me of that. It seems like lately, I've been doing that a lot, and not actually reading the article to see if there is an addition of an assertion of notibility or whatever. Upon re-reading WP:CSD, G4 is a pretty complex and confusing criteria. Because of that, I'll try to start using it a bit more sparingly. —Whomp [T] [C] 03:07, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of page[edit]

Hi I recently uploaded info about a riddle of steel band and you deleted it. Can you tell me why? If i am breaking a rule please let me know.

Dressage007

I wrote the "lollipop article"...its the onesheet for the band...i will just list the band information and the songs they wrote then. I dont understand the issue if i own/wrote this information. But if its not acceptable i will change it.

I didnt say i created them...but i paid for them and own them...so I assume that makes them my property. I can list in the tags that people that I paid to design them though if that is appropriate. Sorry for the confusion. I will try to list that in their tags this time.

Nope Im taking out all the promotion stuff and just having the bare bones about the singers, and the songs on each CD. Im only posting here because i saw a dead link to riddle of steel from a band called russian circles.

I run an indie label called Ascetic Records and....no i am not their mother. I was trying to add to the information on this site. Im sorry if i have offended you lol it is not my purpose. Please contact me again if the page I will upload shortly doesnt meet the sites standards.

Ok, how do i go about requesting that an article be made about them?

No need to delete it. I'm deleting it FOR YOU.[edit]

Seeing as you're an administrator of this information country club, I figured I'd just set this straight here and now.

Wow. Listen. I had absolutely no idea that this project was so elitist. First off, I get someone saying that my article is advertising. So, I strip it down and try to appease. Then, it's not notable enough. And apparently "doesn't establish much of anything". Well, shocking, considering that I basically removed anything but worth.

I thought this was an encyclopaedia. But apparently it's an elitist club. Gone are the days of thinking that this is an open source project. There's nothing open source, nor user-driven about it.

Believe me, I will never attempt to establish another article in this. And should someone in the future wish to feature my work in it, I will approach the matter with grave caution. As it's just not worth the hassle.

For a full-fledged rendition of this nonsense, feel free to check out AbsolutDan's comment page. I thought this was an actual source of information. Now I realise my error. In a way, I'm grateful. Now I'm pretty sure that should I compose the most informative essay on a subject, it will need to be edited to ribbons before it is deemed "suitable" for Wikipedia.

Right. Enjoy your power trips. I'm out of here. I've no desire to be further insulted. (And if there are spelling errors and formatting foibles -- tough. I don't tend to compose to perfection when I'm angry.)

Hi, please accept my apologies for deleting this article unnecessarily. I did check the article before deletion, but I should have been a little more careful. The tone of the article (and some of the others created by the same person) suggested to me that it was a nonsense article. While this article itself wasn't too bad, some of the others by the same author were patent nonsense (one said something like "this town is both 3km and 6nm from here" or something like that). I shall exercise more care in future. I imagine the person who applied the tag was thinking along the same lines. Fortunately, it looks like someone already restored it (it was 3am my time when you left this message, so unfortunately I didn't get it sooner).

Once again, I apologize for any problems this has caused – Gurch 10:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As has been noted at the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gotem page, this article (Eiland) is nonsense. Please try to contact some Belgian admin (if any) or senior editor, and ask if there is a city called Eiland in Belgium (see e.g. Category:Wikipedians in Belgium. Sadly, Google will give a lot of hits, as Eiland is the Dutch word for Island (so no easy way to show that there are no hits). As I've indicated on the AfD page, the links given (to fallingrain) are very deceptive (see the California example I gave for evidence of this). Notice also that there is no article for this "medium-sized city" at the Dutch language Wikipedia. Seriously, these authors are only trying to pull our leg and have a laugh at the expense of Wikipedia (see e.g. that the Eiland article only links to two other articles they created, the deleted Oordegemsestraat (probably their next re-creation), and the perennial Gotem. Sorry to keep on nagging about this, but I'm amazed that every believes them without apparently checking beyond the link they provided. Fram 11:23, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Goeiedag, Fram. [No, Crzrussian, this is not an insult! ;>) - and you haven't even heard me pronounce it!] Could this nonsense finally be stopped. I know I am using strong language, but I consider these articles on Polfbroekstraat and Eiland plain vandalism of the Wikipedia project. Does this guy want to expose Wikipedia as a lot of rubbish? Does He think he is God and can create His Own Special Universe? The reason why Fram (and me) feel so passionate here is that -straat means -street in English, and it is not usual to call even a hamlet this way. In fact, probably God got it wrong - there is no street called Polfbroekstraat, there is a street called Polbroek. Interestingly, "Polbroek" would be far more probably as the name of a hamlet in Belgium. Unfortunately, I am afraid I have now given this guy a clue on how to continue his naughty work. .User_talk:Pan_Gerwazy--pgp 17:43, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol, it's very crazy, I'm addicted to Wiki. Which is going to be crazy when my job starts since I'll be away from 8-4, with the exception of around an hour and half break, and weekends. I'm going to make the most of it. :P Yanksox (talk) 14:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletable[edit]

I think if the information is not verifiable, does not have no obvious point of view, or is under copyright, then it can be deleted. There is more than enough room for 1 Megabyte for every person who has ever lived on a serious server; no-one is forcing anyone to read or link to information they are uninterested in. Information wants to be available, and I don't trust myself or anyone else to know what person or information might be of great interest 1 year, 10 years, 40 years, or 100 years from now. Given the cost is so small, why not put the information in Wikipedia? Snugspout 16:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The scary thing, though, is that he keeps coming back with a new IP. Yanksox (talk) 17:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol. I know, he's just very upset and really doesn't understand the concept of a generalized region. Uck, w/e. A compromise is going through. Yanksox (talk) 17:39, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I found reason for a RFCU. Here are the known IPs:

Also I suspect blocked user Jayone (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) might be the one behind it all. Yanksox (talk) 17:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Funny thing, all those IPs are from Texas. Yanksox (talk) 17:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you use the Geobytes IP tracer, the IP addresses all trace to Connecticut, particularly around Naugatuck. PentawingTalk 18:57, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had just been following the situation concerning the "CT vandal" (which are all anon IPs). I would suggest that someone immediately semi-protect the following articles from further problems: Boston, Massachusetts, New England, and Puerto Rico. Hopefully, that will allow cooler heads to prevail in the end. PentawingTalk 18:54, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take the case! I'm going to apply a construction tag since I won't be around for a little bit, and I'm probably going to revamp the entire article. I think there's a decent article under there. Yanksox (talk) 20:20, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Crazy Russian, Could you look at this article when you get the chance? It needs to be cleaned up for POV and expanded. I can find many external links which don't, however, come from POV sources. At least they're not being used as citations, but I'd like to find better ones. Also, please look at the recent debate over contextual background. I understand if you don't have time. --Strothra 03:23, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've gathered all the information, and yeah he's notable, disgusting, but notable. By the time you come back, the article should be done, I've just skinned it out since I'm gathering info. Yanksox (talk) 04:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm partially worried about sources, the only ones that really supply them are the two videos (probably the best source and some random off shore blogs.) Yanksox (talk) 04:31, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And of course, nothing goes without controversy. I think I'll ask for a semi-protect if this is a contuning theme for a little while. Yanksox (talk) 07:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A few more geo stubs, if you're interested...[edit]

Would you mind taking a look at this?[edit]

Hello! I found you through WikiProject Law. I was wondering if you'd be willing to take the time to help out on the fan fiction article, which I've been working on for a while now?

Fan fiction is generally defined as an unauthorized derivitive work, written by a fan and usually posted online for free (and for no profit). Naturally, this means that covering copyright and even trademark law is hugely important to having a complete coverage of the subject, and that the "Legal issues" section is also hugely important to the article. Sadly, despite this being the case, the "Legal issues" section is a complete MESS. Almost nothing is cited, and there are very, very few references to copyright law in countries other than the U.S. (in fact, only two - a halfway decent paragraph about the Japanese stance on fan fiction, and a vague, vague reference to Russian copyright law that's so vague it's practically useless) "Public Domain" isn't even touched, "fair use" is barely explained, and no laws or judgements at all are quoted. Worse yet, I'm not particularly good at digging up cites and such for court cases.

Hence, why I was over at WikiProject Law.

I'm especially hopeful that you'll lend a hand because you seem to speak (fluently?) several languages other than English, including both Russian and French and what looks like Hebrew and Yiddish (I don't speak a lick of any of them save for random words that got incorperated into English, so I can't tell how fluent you state you are in any of them), correct? Russian copyright law is barely touched (merely referred to as "lax at best"), despite the whole Tanya Grotter incident, and laws in French-speaking countries ranging from France to Canada are completely absent altogether, as is Isreali copyright law, and... well, everything except uncited and unquoted U.S. and Japanese copyright law, really.

The article's talk page has a section where I've posted all the places in "Legal issues" where I sprinkled [citation needed], and noted why I thought it needed it, so that could probably be an excellent jumping-off point. :)

Any help at all that you could give would be MUCH appreciated! :) Regards, Runa27 06:29, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
