2014 women's tournament

umm, the irony seems obvious here but maybe I will explain it for you. " the International Ice Hockey Federation is requested to modify the results of the event accordingly," the IOC has requested that the IIHF modify the results. What does that mean to you? You have jumped to your own conclusions here, there is nothing there that says that, "Results of the Russian team were made void." Do the games they played not count, or are changed to 5-0 forfeits? Do their scorers get stricken from the scoring lists? Will their announcement even match what they do with the official results, history suggests it might not. Since the 2014 Olympic results count in the rankings for the the 2014 world championships as well, the IIHF will have to decide what to do with their results. Past history suggests they will not be "voided" but reduced as other disqualified teams have been in the past. The only other time an olympic team was disqualified they were not disqualified in the world championship rankings and the games all still counted. I request that you apologize for your accusation and tone, however I actually understand that a what a request is so I am not jumping to conclusions yet.18abruce (talk) 10:23, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

This means that Russian team is already disqualified (no longer placed 6th) and the IIHF will have to modify the results. It seems that we differently understand terms 'disqualified' and 'voided'. For me they're pretty similar. If any team gets disqualified this means that its results are no longer valid. Is it wrong? Modifications (that were requested by the IOC) are more about promoting teams that were placed lower. Nevertheless, if you got offended, I apologize.

I think perhaps it is semantics about what "voided" implies, thank you for your response. The most recent case of an IIHF event where the team was disqualified was the 2014 British U20 team. In that case all their game stats, and inidividual stats are still official, but the team was removed from the ranking and placed last. But that was for an eligibility error that the British team themselves revealed. It is hard to say what the IIHF will deem as appropriate. Fix the sentences

On 6 December, Putin stated that the Russian government will not prevent any athletes from participating at the Games as individuals, but there were calls for boycott from other politicians, skip to Winter Olympics. But it is still unclear whether Russia will fund its athletes in the run-up to the Olympics, and some athletes (including Evgenia Medvedeva) opposed to Russian compete for neutral. Russia intends to appeal the ban.

@Djsasso: I never doubted your abilities, man. No sarcasm. You're a good admin. I think I'd behave the same way if I was in your position. Perhaps, when I grow up, I'll be a more calm editor. One question: are there any legal ways to get my main account unblocked if I promise (being constantly watched) to make neutral edits only? Please, don't use admin's template to answer that question. P.S. I don't hate Russia. 'Certain' means that some doped athletes who managed to avoid being caught using DPM (uncovered by WADA report) might compete. It is also important to note who Soviets played against as NHL players were much stronger than WHA players (Canada-WHA was comprised of youngsters and veterans not in their prime). Even Phil Esposito told that 'team Canada' should have been 'team NHL' as Bobby Hull and others weren't allowed to play.
