If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mary W. Helms requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Mary W. Helms[edit]

Hello, thanks for writing this article! I’ve just read it and I’m a bit concerned that it has no full-format citations like to websites or books. That worries me since without proof that this person is notable, meaning covered enough in media to get a Wikipedia article on them, the article may get deleted.

Are there any reliable sources (ones not written by or for this person) you can add? If so just edit the article and add citations using the cite tool, or if you have any thoughts or questions just let me know.

As I see you're editing Wikipedia as a project, if you are still drafting your article it might be best to do that on your sandbox until it's ready to go in the main article space. Otherwise you might get responses like the one above... Blythwood (talk) 20:39, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ANTH 500 Wikipedia Assignment[edit]

The message that you left on my Talk page indicated that you would be writing an article about Carlos H. Aguilar Piedra. Have you decided to write one on Mary Helms instead? Please let me know what you would like to have considered as your submission for the assignment. Hoopes (talk) 22:37, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have not responded to my previous message. It appears that you created the entry Carlos Aguilar Piedra, which is the one on which I am providing comments. Please let me know if this is not correct. Hoopes (talk) 01:16, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Hi User:Culvesam! Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed your recent edit to Cholera. When you add information, you must add a reference which allows readers and other editors to verify that information. For this sentence:

"The first cholera pandemic occurred in the Bengal region of India, near Calcutta starting in 1817 through 1824. The disease dispersed from India to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Eastern Africa through trade routes"

you added the following reference:

{{Cite web|url=http://www.britannica.com|title=Britannica.com|website=Encyclopedia Britannica|access-date=2016-05-12}}

This is a reference to the Encyclopedia Britanica home page which does not verify the information in the sentence. Instead you'll want to reference the exact page from which you got the information, so that someone else can find it.... That said, I'm glad to see you have an interest in cholera, (and maybe in other infectious diseases as well?). Lots to be done around here. If you have any questions as you get used to editing around here, feel free to ask me at my talk page or ask at Wikipedia:Teahouse, which is meant to be a friendly place for newer editors to ask questions. And remember, everytime someone adds poorly-referenced material to Wikipedia, Pacific islands sink another half-meter under the ocean tides. Ajpolino (talk) 04:28, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
