Blocked for sockpuppetry[edit]

Request reason:

@Ponyo: I am reaching out to appeal an unblock/unban request through the standard offer. I want to express my sincere apologies for my past mistakes regarding Wikipedia's sockpuppetry policy. I acknowledge that I was wrong, and I humbly request a second chance from the administrators. My only intention was to contribute positively to Wikipedia. While I have been involved in sockpuppetry, I want to emphasize that I have never made any unconstructive or disruptive edits here. Administrators can review my contributions, as they will reflect my genuine efforts to contribute positively. When I initially registered as Cyber.Eyes.2005, I was not aware of Wikipedia's sockpuppetry policy, which led me to become involved in it unintentionally. I received a level-2 warning on my talk page from Aman.kumar.goel as the first message. At that time, I also lacked understanding about providing proper references and citations, which resulted in repetitive mistakes. Despite this, I assure you that all my edits were made in good faith. I deeply regret my previous mistakes and sincerely request an opportunity to rectify them. Looking back, I realize that I lacked the necessary maturity to make valuable contributions. However, I have learned from my mistakes. If granted a second chance, I am committed to contributing responsibly and constructively to Wikipedia. I hope to be given the chance to demonstrate my dedication to being a positive contributor to this community. Note: @Yamla: I made an unblock request on User talk:Nima Lhamo but it was declined as a Procedural issue. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 17:46, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I concur with Aman.kumar.goel that you shouldn't be unblocked without a topic ban. It would not be forever, but we'll need to see what edits you make in other areas first. 331dot (talk) 08:28, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Aman.kumar.goel: "Why do you think so?!" I have contributed most and am most interested in South Asian-related topics. I recognise and apologise for any disruptive or destructive alterations I may have done in the past using sockpuppets, but my edits were all in goodfaith. I have never made any vandalizing or unconstructive edits. That is why I am requesting an unblock appeal through the standard offer and hope to be given a second chance by administrators. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 04:57, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@331dot:, Dear Administrators, I am reaching out to kindly request a review of my WP:SO unblock/unban appeal, which has remained unresolved for the past two weeks (16 Days). Despite my efforts to establish communication, I have not received any response from the administration team.

While I understand the demands of your busy schedule, I am keen to address any concerns that may have led to my ban/block. I would greatly value your prompt attention to this matter.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 06:47, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging admins isn't going to speed this up. We are all here on our own time, doing what we can when we can. Please be patient. There are requests that have been open longer than yours. 331dot (talk) 06:50, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification, 331dot. I appreciate your response and have a better understanding of the situation now. I will exercise patience and await the completion of the review process. As a reminder, the waiting period for requesting the Standard Offer (SO) is 6 months. I anticipate meeting the eligibility requirements within the next 7 to 8 days. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 07:14, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Technically you still have a couple months to do a SO request. 331dot (talk) 06:52, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While this request was made before the 6 months typically offered in a standard offer, we are now past the 6 months so I'm OK with evaluating this request now, instead of starting the process all over again. That said, please respond to the questions below to help administrators evaluate this request:

  1. What was the behaviour that led to the original block (for not being here to build an encyclopedia) and why were they against Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. What articles do you intend to edit about if your unblock request is successful?

I look forward to your responses. Z1720 (talk) 00:17, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For the first question, since I wasn't an experienced editor and didn't know much about Wikipedia policies, I became involved in an edit war on a few articles, especially this one, Brokpa. This eventually led to an indefinite block due to Sock puppetry, both of which were in violation of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I sincerely apologize for this and promise not to repeat these mistakes in the future.
As for the second question, if my unblock request is successful, I would like to contribute to Wikipedia as a whole. This would include tasks such as reverting vandalism and correcting unsourced edits, without being limited to a specific topic or region. However, I have a particular interest in contributing to articles related to South and Central Asia.
If granted a second chance, I am committed to contributing responsibly and constructively to Wikipedia. I hope to be given the chance to demonstrate my dedication to being a positive contributor to this community. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 10:31, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

@331dot: I'm having a hard time understanding why a topic ban would be imposed in this situation. My edits have consistently been made in good faith and were never disruptive to warrant such a measure. My indefinite block/ban was related to an issue of sockpuppetry, not due to problematic contributions within a specific topic area. If obtaining an unban necessitates a concurrent topic ban, I am amenable to this arrangement. However, I am particularly keen on contributing to articles that align with my areas of interest. • Almost every single edit of yours in South Asian-related subject was bad. You made such bad edits even with your last sock this year.[1] Topic ban is necessary for keeping you away from the conflicting area while you prove in 6 months that you can indeed edit Wikipedia by editing subjects that are unrelated to South Asia. Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 03:06, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aman Kumar Goel, why do you consider this edit [2] as disruptive or 'bad' (as you mentioned it)? I would appreciate it if the administrators could review it; I made two significant changes here [3], Changed the short description to a more explanatory one "Ethnolinguistic group indigenous to Pakistan" for which I took references from here [4] (Burusho , the indigenous population of the principalities of Hunza and Nagir , who used to be called Kanjuts and are apparently still referred to by this name in the scanty references to them in Russian writings.) and here [5]. Additionally, I updated the population figures, which I supported by this reference [6] I believe these sources meet Wikiipedia's reliability standards. I kindly request the administrators to examine this situation. It appears that Aman Kumar Goel may be advocating for my topic ban without substantial evidence. The edit of mine he cited here was all in good faith. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 09:44, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note to Cyber Eyes, and any reiewinng admins: this account isn't just CU-blocked, it is banned per WP:3X. No individual checkuser or other administrator can accept an unblock request, it would need to be made by the community via a consensus at WP:AN. Alright, then, why haven't we reposted it over there? Or linked to this? Daniel Case (talk) 06:23, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Daniel Case I've personally spent too much of my volunteer time chasing down socks of this particular LTA to be motivated to spend any in copying their unblock request to AN. You are at liberty to do so if you choose to; if you do, I'd be grateful for a ping, I have some comments I would want to make with regards to the request. I'll see if I can do it later ... I'm sort of short on time now AFAIK. Daniel Case (talk) 22:04, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Girth Summit and Daniel Case: It has to be Cyber.Eyes.2005 himself who will need to allow us to post this appeal to WP:AN. Had he allowed then I would have already done that for him. Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 13:13, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aman.kumar.goel: and @Daniel Case: If that's the case, You can go ahead and proceed with the appeal to WP:AN. Thank you for your cooperation. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 05:35, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Daniel Case:, @OhanaUnited:, @Deepfriedokra:. @Yamla: Dear Administrators, Hope this note finds you well. Just a quick one to check in on my unblock/unban appeal. It's been sitting on the Administrators' Noticeboard for a month now without any feedback. Any chance of a quick look when you get a moment? Your help is much appreciated! Once again I'd like to express my sincere apologies for the mistakes I made in the past, particularly concerning edit warring and sockpuppetry. I recognize the importance of upholding Wikipedia's standards and the impact of my actions on the community. I hope to be given an opportunity to demonstrate my dedication to being a positive contributor. I've learned from my past errors and am committed to adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines moving forward. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 15:05, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I have bad news. It was archived without being closed. Were it to be closed formally, consensus would be to not unblock. I'll let someone else formally close the unblock request on this page. Advice? Wait six months and try again. If you could edit constructively and significantly (500 edits over six months), on another Wikimedia project, it would count in your favor. Best -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:15, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's unfortunate, but thank you for the update. I appreciate your transparency. I'll await the formal closure of the appeal, hoping for the possibility of changes (?). Meanwhile, I'll take your advice and work on constructive edits elsewhere. It's a bit disappointing that I'll have to wait six more months again, but I'm willing to try again. Unblock/Unban Appeal through WP:SO[edit]

This user is asking that their block be reviewed:

Cyber.Eyes.2005 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am requesting an unblock/unban appeal through WP:SO, I acknowledge and apologise for my mistakes I made in the past. The reason I got blocked as User:Cyber.Eyes.2005 was because of getting involved in edit warring on a few articles which eventually led to me being indefinately blocked due to sockpuppetry. I didnt have much knowledge about wikipedias policies and this became the reason i repeatedly made mistakes. This is my second time appealing through the standard offer, last time I was suggested by User:Deepfriedokra to work on other wikimedia projects, It has been six months since I last made my unblock request and I have been a constructive editor on Simple English Wikipedia and Wikidata; during the past months, I've become pretty aware of how Wikipedia works, including policies like not abusing multiple accounts and edit warring, and how to contribute positively here. A topic ban was proposed on my talk page, I agree to that. I hope the admins would give me a chance to be a positive contributor to this community as well. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 08:31, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notes:

  • In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
  • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

Is this the statement you want transferred to a noticeboard for community discussion? I think this is unlikely to persuade anyone without some more discussion about your actions here. 331dot (talk) 09:36, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@331dot: Please de-quote and transfer the following statement to the Administrators' noticeboard:

I am reaching out to appeal for an unblock/unban request through the standard offer. I sincerely apologize for my past mistakes regarding Wikipedia's sockpuppetry policy. I acknowledge my wrongdoings and request a second chance from the administrators. My sole intention was to contribute positively to Wikipedia, and all my edits were made in good faith. While I have been involved in sockpuppetry, I want to emphasize that I have never made any unconstructive or disruptive edits here. Administrators can review my contributions, as they reflect my genuine efforts to contribute positively.

When I initially registered as Cyber.Eyes.2005, I was unaware of Wikipedia's sockpuppetry policy, which led me to become involved unintentionally. I received a level-2 warning on my talk page from User:Aman.kumar.goel as the first message. At that time, I also lacked understanding about providing proper references and citations, resulting in repetitive mistakes and getting involved in edit warring. Despite this, I assure you that all my edits were made in good faith. I deeply regret my previous mistakes and sincerely request an opportunity to rectify them.

Looking back, I realize that I lacked the necessary maturity to make valuable contributions. I wasn't an experienced editor and didn't know much about Wikipedia policies. I became involved in edit warring, which eventually led to an indefinite block due to sockpuppetry, both of which were in violation of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. It has been six months since my last unblock request, and I was suggested by Deepfriedokra to work on another Wikimedia project. I have been a constructive editor on Simple English Wikipedia and Wikidata. During the past six months, I've become pretty aware of how Wikipedia works, including policies like not abusing multiple accounts and edit warring, and how to contribute positively here. A topic ban was proposed; I agree to that if it can get me unblocked, but I don't think I've made unconstructive edits to warrant a topic ban. If granted a second chance, I am committed to contributing responsibly and constructively to this Wikipedia as well. I hope to be given the chance to demonstrate my dedication to being a positive contributor to this community. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 10:08, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

I'm usually pretty willing to accommodate requests like this but I decline to do so with this statement as I still think it is unlikely to persuade anyone. What has changed in the last six months? What have you learned about what was wrong with your actions? Do you agree to a topic ban as proposed above? These are things the community will want to know when deciding to unblock you. 331dot (talk) 10:16, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your suggestion, @331dot:! I've answered the questions you asked in the last para. I hope it is satisfactory now. I'm open to discussing it further if needed. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 10:31, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Saying in effect "I agree to a topic ban but I don't think I need to and I'm only doing it to get unblocked" is unlikely to be persuasive. 331dot (talk) 10:41, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You've got me wrong. What I mean to say is that a topic ban is imposed on editors who have made disruptive contributions in a specific topic area. However, my edits were made in good faith, and that's what I want other the community to know. Additionally, the user who suggested a topic ban for me is the one I got involved in an edit war with, and they're blocked for abusing multiple accounts. I'm also okay with accepting a topic ban if necessary.
If possible, could you please add this comment to the noticeboard so others won't misunderstand me. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 10:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When I do something like this, I am putting my name and reputation here on the line; if the community feels I am wasting its time by bringing an inappropriate/improper/invalid request to them, that damages the community's trust with me. I decline to put that at risk with this matter. If I were to transfer it anyway, it would be with a recommendation against accepting. I will leave your request open. 331dot (talk) 11:14, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot: I understand, thank you for your suggestions. I've made the topic ban issue clearer, If you think my following statement is okay now please post it on the noticeboard:

– Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 15:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
