William Shakspere of Stratford-upon-Avon is not proven to be the famous playwright[edit]

No one has yet provided documented proof that the William Shakspere of Stratford-upon-Avon was the William Shakespeare of worldwide fame. On his death in 1616, no tributes from other playwrights were presented; his will mentions nothing connected with authorship of so famous a body of work, his signature is not that of a man who was widely knowledgable of courtly activities, law, history, travel to Italy, seamanship, medicine.Cyclopsga (talk) 15:56, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A respected group of academics, authors, actors (including Derek Jacobi), US Supreme Court judges and others have challenged the widely accepted belief that William Shakespeare was born in Stratford and authored the many plays and sonnets.

The "Shakespeare Authorship Coalition" at DoubtAboutWill.org has 2600+ signatures on its "Declaration of Reasonable Doubt" about the identity of William Shakespeare.

SAC (to whom I do not belong) merely wants to make reasoned debate about the issue an acceptable academic topic, NOT to determine who wrote the plays and sonnets attributed to Shakespeare.
