Image uploads[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for your image uploads, however as Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, I would like to investigate the copyright status of some of your uploads. For the following uploads you claim you are the copyright holder of the work in the licence tag you have used, but you have not given a source. Can you please state where these images are from, for instance, are they from a website, or are these picture you took yourself using a camera?

I am the FFA advisor and Ag Science teacher at Red Wing High School. They are pictures taken by myself, or staff members in my department. We are giving our permission for their release. Czsheehan (talk) 01:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First, thanks for responding. Okay, since it is clear that there is no copyright infringement, I have marked them as the work of the uploader. I note that you have indicated that you work for the school. There is no rule against editors editing articles when they have connections to the article's subject, and the edits you have made to the school article generally follow the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view policy, but I would advice you to read the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest guideline anyway for the advice it gives. By the way, I have slightly re-indented/re-formatted your comments so I and others can read them more easily; I hope you don't mind. For the following images you have sourced them to someone other than yourself, but have not provided any evidence of permission to indicate that the author/school has actually released the image under the license given. I have hence marked these images as lacking evidence of permission, please follow the instructions given on the template added to avoid deletion.

Again, I work at the school. I have sent the following message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org
I received to following tag for images:
"This file is missing evidence of permission. It is sourced to someone other than the uploader and while a copyright tag has been applied, there is no proof that the author agreed to license the file under the given license. Unless a link to a webpage with an explicit permission is provided, or an email from the copyright owner is sent or forwarded to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, the image will be deleted after Friday, 10 September 2010. Please remove this template if a link to a webpage with an explicit permission is provided, or a tag with a volunteer response team ticket number has been added.
With a user making the following comments on my User Talk page.

- I work for Red Wing High School. I teach Agricultural Science and am the FFA Advisor. I am specifically working with our technology committee to update and improve our Wikipedia page for Red Wing High School. The Block Schedule image was designed by a committee I sat on. The schedule is distributed to all of our staff and is even available on our homepage online. I have permission to upload it.


- Our school mascot image was redesigned this year by our Activities office, again which I represent.
If anything the logo would qualify as:
This is a logo of an organization, item, or event, and is protected by copyright. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, of logos for certain uses involving identification and critical commentary may qualify as fair use under United States copyright law.
Even so, it wouldn't be copyright infringement as I am a representative of the organization.
Please remove the mark for deletion. I will provide any further information or permission necessary. I'm trying very hard as a representative of Red Wing High School to add meaningful content and information to the wikipedia page. I understand that the process for uploading images needs to be complicated to protect copy rights, but in this case, it is appropriate for the images to be added.

Your message has been received, so the images are not in danger of being deleted for the time being. You may need to send another e-mail back to confirm evidence of permission, in particular explicitly making clear that the images are being released into the public domain (all rights released) as the tags state. You also uploaded the following images under the claim that they are the work of US Federal Government, and hence in the public domain, using {{PD-USGov}}. However the source you have given links to the Minnesota Department of Education, which is part of a state government, not the federal government. State government works are usually excluded from this law, however Minnesota appears to be an exception, so I have switched the template on these image to {{PD-MNGov}}. The website itself however claims that the material on there is copyrighted, so I may ask for outside opinions on the copyright status of these images.

Graduation Assessment Test Scores are public data. I would suggest that Minnesota's exception "The Minnesota Data Practices Act provides that "All government data collected, created, received, maintained or disseminated by a government entity shall be public unless classified by statute, or temporary classification pursuant to section 13.06, or federal law, as nonpublic or protected nonpublic, or with respect to data on individuals, as private or confidential." Minnesota Statute Section 13.03, subdivision 1." upholds that. But if outside opinions suggest this is not the case I will contact the MN Dept. of Education.Czsheehan (talk) 01:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Red Wing High School.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Red Wing High School.jpg, which you've sourced to Principal Beth Borgen. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. File copyright problem with File:Rwhsmcas2010.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Rwhsmcas2010.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
