Question

At Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Kelly Martin, your 'outside comment' contains the statement "You don't go deleting things with a consensus, and then blast those who have the nerve to reprimand you. " This seems self-contradictory: did you mean to type 'without'? User:Noisy | Talk 13:41, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes I did. Thanks. --D-Day 14:25, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Request for nomination for adminship

I was wondering if you would be willing to nominate me for Administrator status on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. You are probably familiar with my work on various NASCAR drivers at the beginning of Wikiproject:NASCAR. I also created Category:IRL drivers and List of Indycar drivers and have greatly improved the quality and quantity of IRL-related articles and have also gone through the entire lists of auto racing drivers making sure stubs were properly noted and that all drivers were listed by nationality. I have also been a vandalism/vanity patroller and intend to use admin powers to assist in that. Thank you. -Drdisque 19:22, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm flattered at your request. Yes, I'll be more than happy to nominate you. I think you would make a very good admin. You can view the link at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Drdisque. Thank you and God bless. --D-Day 23:01, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

D Day, I was wondering what caused you to leave the message on my Talk Page. Where did I not leave my signature on a talk page? I have experience editing Wikipedia, and am curious what caused this sudden message. Thanks! clindsey 21:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Come and vote your mind

Dear Christian friend,

I saw you on the list of Christian Wikipedians and wanted to let you know about something. The other day, someone nominated 12 Christian biography entries for deletion! They include a Christian university list of people (not unlike 68 other lists like it)[1], presidents of universities, and authors of many books.

Since that time, people have been voting. Please take this message as a call to vote; not a call to vote a certain way. I respect you and your ability to come, read the entry, and make a wise decision. In other words, I’m not vote stacking or campaigning; simply letting you know something that you’d probably like to know.

By the way, my friend recently started an organization called Wiki4Christ. If you’d like to join a network of Christians with a purpose on Wikipedia, please see the site!

Below are some of the links that need attention. Thanks for your consideration.

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, D-Day/Archive 2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 20:13, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

User Page

I noticed that you had your name down in Trading Spaces on Esperanza, and I was wondering if I could have a go at a redesign. Any ideas for what you might want? smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 13:22, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, well. I'd like everything arranged so the Barnstars don't fall to the bottom of the page. And also, with the influx of userboxes and assorted images on there, the table of contents gets kind of weird, and it's difficult to find the "edit" button to work in just a certain section. Also, I'm not that great with HTML, but perhaps a solid color background, and some decorations would make good additions. Other than that, I have no real requests, just as long as nothing is removed. Thanks for your interest! --D-Day 14:03, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I've created a test at this test page. If you like it, then you can put it onto your page. By the way, I'd recommend putting all the userboxes on a different page. There's way too many for one page. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 20:34, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey there....

Hi D-Day/Archive 2! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll be assigned three user pages to examine. Pick your favorite one and award it 1-10 points in four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are a secret! Email Banes with your scores and final picks. Please contact him for information on how to email him. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks.

Your three user pages to choose from are:

Hi D-Day, Since Banes appears to be away right now, I'll be more than happy to help with any questions you have with this project just let me know!. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 23:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, you should email your scores to Banes, all you have to do is go to Banes userpage and use the "Email this user" tab on your left in the toolbox. Before you do that you need to list the userpage you chose here at the num 4 spot. After listing your finalist you're ready to score! Use this page as a guideline for your scoring. If this is unclear please let me know. And thanks for taking part in this project we hope to see you around! KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 23:24, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

speedy deletion

I assume that you don't want your user page deleted. It is listed on Candidates for speedy deletion for some reason or other.--Alhutch 20:46, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I think it's because one of the userboxes is being considered for deletion. I sure hope my page isn't! --D-Day 20:47, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
It's weird, i noticed that happening with other people's user pages. One of their userboxes is up for speedy deletion and the whole user page shows up on CSD. This has to be a mistake, right?--Alhutch 20:51, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Boxen

Hi. You've got the "This user would gladly re-create any userboxes that have been speedied out of process." box on your page.

It's probably going to be deleted via the TfD anyway, but is there any chance that you could remove it of your own violition? It's yet another salvo in this pointless user-box war, and I'm trying to get everyone to lay down their weapons and get back to writing the encyclopedia.

brenneman{T}{L} 01:59, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for the barnstar. By the way, most users prefer it if you give them the barnstar on their talk page, so then they can move it to their main page (I don't mind though). Think of the difference between knocking on someone's door to give them a trophy, and breaking into their house to put the trophy on their mantlepiece. Still, thanks anyway! smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 14:26, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Userboxes and you

I'm really concerned about your recent behavior related to the userbox issue. I was shocked when I discovered that you created three (3) templates about Michael Jackson that were either outright attacks or at least in very poor taste. And posting threats like this one is inappropriate on DRV: debate the issue on its merits, don't let the stress take over, and remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia first. There is no point in getting so worked up about this. I'm saying this to you because I still believe that you're a serious contributor, and that you just happened to "hang out with the wrong crowd", so to speak. Believe me that I wouldn't bother contacting you if I thought that you were incapable of seeing the light. In my opinion, the best way forward would be for you to go directly from denial/anger to acceptance. Jimbo Wales has made it clear that polemical userboxes don't have much of a future here. They're already banned from the French Wikipedia and the German Wikipedia. The longer they're allowed to stay here, the more painful it will be when they do get deleted for good. It's better that this happens now, in a clean break, so that everybody can move on. Cheers, --MarkSweep (call me collect) 21:36, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

The Michael Jackson templates may have been out of whack, but I'm still protecting userboxes. I don't think I'm hanging out with the wrong crowd at all. Thanks for your concern anyway. --D-Day Somebody talk to me. Please somebody! Anybody! 21:41, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

OK. Well first of all, you can monitor Wikipedia:Templates for deletion, in case any come up on there. But since that's been a rare occurence lately, the main option is Wikipedia:Deletion review/Userbox debates. The only problem is, the ones on there have already been deleted, so you may be voting to keep something that you'd rather not! But those are the main sources for the time being. Userbox solution

What is your opinion on the proposed solution for all userboxes to be substed and then have the templates deleted? This is probably the best solution, as many of the anti-userbox crowd (me included) simply object to them being in the Template: namespace. --Cyde Weys 20:33, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I've also heard of that solution, and it sounds doable. I also like the idea of them being in the user namespace. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me, I just want the non-offensive ones to be kept and the whole war to stop! --D-Day Somebody talk to me. Please somebody! Anybody! 20:36, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Hi, I notice that you're one of the other people policing the Flatulence article and you've been doing good work on keeping the anon effluence in check. In the latest revert I notice that you've marked one of the constant colloquialism additions as 'vandalism', and although I have no problems with the rv I think that describing it as vandalism is a bit misleading. It looks like a good-faith addition, just not a useful one, if that makes sense? Anyway, I figure that a different edit summary or even a pointer to the talk page discussion of it would be more useful in this instance. Cheers, Ziggurat 23:45, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Attempts to expand CSD T1

There is a movement underway to insert language at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion that would expand CSD T1 to include anything anywhere, including user space, that could be transcluded. This would make T1 capable, prettymuch, of deleting any template-like code that administrators anywhere didn't like. Proponents of such an expansion are seeking to show they have community consensus to do so; I figured you'd want to know. Regards, JDoorjam Talk 00:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Steven Levitt AfD Discussion

Your presence is requested at the Steven Levitt deletion discussion. Wikipedia needs to be streamlined, and we can't possibly document every godless crackpot who comes up with some inane "theory". By creating articles on people who are out of touch with American values, we only give them a platform to preach their otherwise non-notable message from. Thanks for your time. :)

Karmafist is one of the more brilliant users on Wikipedia. I don't understand why he wasn't made an admin earlier.

he was. He lost the privileges after he wheel-warred with Jimbo Wales over a sensitive issue. I don't want to sound funny, but you might consider changing your words on that a little. People are going to think you're...not very clued-up. :) Rob Church (talk) 01:14, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Please comment on my counteroffer on the talk page of Doc's userbox proposal. --Dragon695 05:48, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

A note from the Admin Coaching coordinator

Hello, coaches. As you can see, there is a significant backlog at the Esperanza Admin Coaching program. Since we do not want users to have to wait forever to get assigned, I'm asking all of you for a status report. If you feel that you are done, that your coachee is not active enough, or that you could handle the extra load from another coachee, please tell me in my talk page as soon as possible. Thanks! OK

I'll talk to you... 68.39.174.238 07:30, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

What's up?

As your sig begs people to talk to you... what's up? Saw you voting for Karmafist at RFAd... really unfortunate that he won't be re-sysopped. How sad. The good of the encyclopedia apparently doesn't matter so much anymore. Really, really depressing. Oh well. In any case, you might want to consider archiving this page. Just a thought. At 88 KB... wow. Why are you even requesting that people talk to you? You don't need it one iota. Oh well. Have a nice day, and happy editing! Matt Yeager (Talk?) 04:05, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Is there a reason your userpage is laid out horizontally? It's impossible to read. I tried looking at the code, but alas it is beyond me.

Archive this page, man! :)

I'll archive this eventually. LOL. Can't explain the userpage thing though. Looks fine on my laptop. --D-Day Somebody talk to me. Please somebody! Anybody!Click to view my evil userboxes 20:34, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
I can set up a talk archive for you if you're lazy ;-) - just let me know. The user page looks fine for me - it's just those annoying section title underlines that break the look. Misza13 (Talk) 20:47, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Weird.. it's laid out horizontally for me, and I can't read some of the sections. I'm using IE. (I'm forced to use IE at work.) I'll try looking at this with Firefox when I get home. Maybe IE just has a problem with it. --Fang Aili 20:56, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Ah, looks great in Firefox. IE just sucks. --Fang Aili 23:14, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
