I'm not oppposed to your edit as such, but it seems a little strange to invoke current Postal Service policies to apply to someone who died over 200 years ago... AnonMoos (talk) 15:07, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. I deliberated quite a bit over this edit, but my research kept pointing to "postmaster" having always been the official title, in use from the beginning rather than being "current." See the PDF linked in the edit for more reference. The term "postmistress" is contemporary to the term "postmaster" and appears idiosyncratic rather than official.
