Clearly you solved the sub-category problem. Thanks for all your work reclassifying the banks.

Acad Ronin 02:33, 17 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the categorization to the bank pages I have created. How does one create sub-categories, such as "Central banks", or "Defunct banks"? That is, what is the syntax? The wikipedia:categorization page is philosophical rather than practical.

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

American vs US

Just so you know, the adjective American refers to the continent in most places, except Canada and the US. Thus I am changing Category:American banks to Category:Banks of the United States. I am a Canadian, so this kind of caught me off guard too. Burgundavia 10:09, Jun 18, 2004 (UTC)

Baseball players

Just a heads-up regarding the additions you made to the list; you removed your own addition of the ghost link for Paul Dean (thanks) but I had to delete Dixie Dean (wrong sport; not Dizzy) and Preacher Roe. Roe's article was just the copyvio notice remaining after the article was removed, so if you add any more, try to verify the articles before you add them. MisfitToys 04:44, Jul 24, 2004 (UTC)

True or false??

True or false: Wikipedia will likely be perfect sometime between now and 2010. (A perfect Wikipedia would contain all articles that have previously been requested with no vandalism. I remove articles from the requests section when they become live links; in contrast, you add more links.) 66.245.97.168 00:15, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

In case you should check back here: 1. I generally remove live links, however in this case restored one that had a copyvio notice and needs to have the article replaced. 2. I generally add new links to articles that need to be written, and the Waltrip article needs to be rewritten because of the copyvio issues. Yeesh. --DMG413 00:25, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Schnauzer entry on list of dog breeds

I put back the schnauzer entry because we're attempting to accumulate a reasonable breed list based on what people will look under. Since most kennel clubs call the standard-sized dog simply Schnauzer, it's not unreasonable that they'll look under that name in the list. This follows the same model we used for, for example, Collie, Cur, Foxhound, and Fox Terrier on the same page. If you haven't already, you might also check out the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Dog_breeds, which has some info on the main page and various discussions on its talk page, and also the talk page for the list of dog breeds as well. Thanks. Elf | Talk 03:50, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Exhibition game

Why should we have two articles about the same thing? A friendly match is the same thing as an exhibition game, it's just a difference between American and British English. As the british useage had an aricle first, it gets to be the location of the article. Gentgeen 20:59, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks!

Last summer I somehow took over the "List of rivers in Tennessee project" by default, as someone started it and then seemingly abandoned it. It's been one of my two main Wikipedia "things", the other being the "List of governors of Tennessee". I really appreciate your fixing my lame spelling of "Boundary". I guess I've been influence by the popular Nashville watering hole "The Bound'ry" Any way, thanks again.

Requested articles/mathematics

Why did you remove the link to Federigo Enriques from Wikipedia:Requested articles/mathematics? As far as I can see, no article on him has been created. -- Jitse Niesen 11:54, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Please check out the Georgetown University discussion page - I've decided to remove the treaty of versailles comment. Let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Georgetown University

Please check the comments I made on the Georgetown page. As you'll see, I pretty much agreed with your revisions, EXCEPT for the SWQ issue. Sorry to be so adamant about this, but, regardless of what that Hoya article says, that facility is a 1000+ bed facility. I lived there last year and I was a class rep so I was often meeting with various members of facilities, administration, etc., regarding the issue. First-hand experience trumps in this case.

What year did you graduate, if you don't mind disclosing? Were you SFS? MSB? COL? Nursing?

spelling

I applaud your correcting "occassionally" to "occasionally", but please put an "sp" or "spelling" in the edit summary field. I (and perhaps others) have been looking for edits with no summary, since that is most often how vandals operate. Thus I stumbled over a number of edits you made. Hu 17:40, 2004 Nov 14 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 21:13, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

expos/nationals debate

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos. Kingturtle 23:19, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sources for Edward Tiffin

Hello, some time ago you added a fair bit of content to Edward Tiffin. As you may be aware, we are currently trying to improve Wikipedia's verifiability and reliability by making sure articles cite the sources used to create them. Do you remember what websites, books, or other sources you used to add content to Edward Tiffin? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? See WP:CITET for some quick templates to use for citing sources. Thanks! --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 02:25, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgetown_view_from_across_the_Potomac.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 02:54, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

 1. If you are an admin, please remove your name from the list.
 2. If you are currently interested in being considered for adminship, please be sure your name is in bold; if you are opposed to being considered for adminship, please cross out your name (but do not delete it, as it will automatically be re-added in the next page update).
 3. Please check to see if you are in the right category for classification by number of edits.

Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 21% for major edits and 27% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 23:03, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you used no source to tag an image as lacking a source. Can you explain the edit to Portal:Politics/News deleting Columbus Rally?

Can you please explain why you took out the reference to the Columbus Ohio Immigrants Rights Rally from Portal:Politics/News? I spent some time getting the page up for those interested in the development of the immigrants rights issue here. The rally in Los Angeles was historical -- one of the largest in US history on any issue. It has inspired my neighbors here in Ohio, and we had one of the largest turnouts in our state's history over the same issue. People are clearly interested in the issue, and Wikipedia is a good way for people on all sides to find out what is going on.

Your edit comment said you "updated language" but you removed the substance of the Columbus rally, and removed the links to the article and the external links to news accounts. Why? I would like to learn from this experience.

r3 02:16, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I would be happy to expand the information in an article, but I could not find any article about the wave of immigrants rights rallies that is sweeping the country. From Portal:Politics/News, the links are to the generic pages for Los Angeles and Phoenix, for example. I tried to insert a link to an article about an actual demonstration on this subject. How can we give readers of the Current Events a link to meaningful information on the subject? r3 03:05, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hi, i removed your speedie tag on infowars, since i would argue that the site is notable enough to not warant a speedie. The sites creator has been on CNN twice, and has interviewd tons of celebrities. Although it can be debated whether the site is truly notable, it does not warrant a speedie, in my view. Bridesmill 16:20, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

 • The image should stay in the article. There is not another interior photo of a "French Style Cafe" in the article, therefore this a highly relevant image. Claiming that the image is vanity/spam/corp is nonsense and an invalid argument. The image adheres to WP:NPOV standards. Separately the Kalendar Koffee House article has been RFD. I agreed with the argument made regarding Chains, and have removed the listing on the Coffee House Chains page. The RFD outcome should not reflect on this page. As editors you must not allow your emotions to influence your choices. If you allow the image to be removed then must reflect on the reasons why. None of the reason given for removal of the image are sound or reasonable ones.EllisCHanna 12:44, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
 • As Ellis' partner in Kalendar I wanted to add my part to this discussion. I completely understand the arguments made for the references and articles in the coffee house chains page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kalendar Koffee House. I can see how Wikipedia could become full of advertising style information weakening the references made available in this valuable living encycodedia. I expressed concerns to my partner about that section from the start. But I also saw the possibility of a fit because ultimately it is a section listing businesses with their styles and descriptions. Now the pages that offer descriptions of cafes and coffee houses have excellent written references describing very accurately in words what these are. But the pictures are obviously less effective. It was this section that we were first drawn to. Each section, with the exception of section 2, has one or two picture references as I have reviewed:

Intro Coffee House - One photo simple image reference. 1. History - two great reference images

2. Contemporary coffeehouses -no images as references (actually I think a Starbucks image would work well here - being an icon of the coffee movement of the 21 century- creating a whole new direction in coffeehouses again)

3. Contemporary cafés

The article on contemporary cafes is then highlighted with one image identified as: "A coffee shop in Ireland. There is no outside seating due to unsuitable weather." I assume this was used originally due to lack of any usable cafe images. The photograph could be depicting a bike repair shop or pub or any number of retail stores from its appearance, and lends no further descriptive relevance to this section. We are just suggesting, that as it appears, each category under Coffee Houses has a picture reference (with the acception of section 2), the triptych we have added offers a much stronger contibution to the contemporary cafe article, versus the ubiquitous corner coffee sandwich joint that appears to be represented (I appologize if this is actually a famous Irish quirky cafe that I do not know about.)

4. Cannabis coffee shops. The Bull Dog image is perfect. This is very well known coffee house for this section.

I hope this helps define our argument for keeping this image in this section.I do not see how the Kalendar image is seen as any more or less of an advertising image than any others. For ultimately, we do believe it enhances the article. It was accepted at one point (it had been placed in a picture box like all the others). We hope this inclusion can be made again.
