Original research on Wikipedia

I wanted to give you a heads up that I undid your edit because Wikipedia requires sources for claims and doesn't publish original research. If you have any questions, please let me know. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 17:27, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

And there are similar such edits that I've found. Please take care in the future to not insert unsourced material on Wikipedia. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 17:41, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
@Koavf: Okay thanks, point taken, I'll give myself a slap on the wrist. However, on another note per the reversion of my edits to R.E.M. discography:
  • A number of the release dates listed refer to the album's release in the US (generally a Tuesday). Many of these releases, take Out of Time as an example, were released earlier in other countries. Therefore, to avoid Americentrism, the earliest (known) release date would be best included on the discography page (these dates can be found on each releases individual page).
  • Elsewhere, the parenthesised US is listed on many releases with the release date given as a Monday which is the UK and Europe release date, not the US date which would be the following day. Therefore, the inclusion of the parenthesised US/UK would become redundant.
  • Per the 1980s post-100 UK chart positions, they cannot be confirm anyway else expect through these UKMIX forum links, as the information is taken directly from industry published material by Gallup (the then-compiler of the UK charts), which I believe can no longer be easily accessed. Also, "Cant Get There from Here" is listed as "Can't Get There from Here" on the link per how it was written on the single's release. DPUH (talk) 20:02, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Agreed about Americanism: first release is first release. If it's sourced earlier, I'm grateful for you fixing this bias. I am aware that typically, the release date is one calendar day earlier in some markets, but I don't know how long this has been true, and I'm hesitant to add it in without a source for each release. Thanks for the "Cant Get There from Here" fix--that probably was a search error. I'm not sure if these forums are considered reliable sources: I don't see them listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources and forums typically aren't reliable. Have you posted to WT:ALBUM regarding this? Thanks a lot for working together. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:06, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, given that forum aren't considered reliable, this forum probably wouldn't be technically allowed. It is an area of Wikipedia that I try not to go into as I'm sure people have their own strong views on which sources can be considered reliable. DPUH (talk) 09:29, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Problems with upload of File:Tremeloes Candy Man.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Tremeloes Candy Man.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. Zimbabwe charts

Why are you replacing "Zimbabwe" with "Rhodesia" in several song articles? Plus, the Lyons Maid article refers to a British ice cream brand and has no mention of record charts or anything remotely music-related. snapsnap (talk) 00:46, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

@SnapSnap: Because Zimbabwe did not exist until 1980 so it is factually incorrect to say that a song released in 1969 charted in Zimbabwe. Instead, it was known as Rhodesia from 1965 to 1979, and so that should be name used for the chart for that period. The fact that the Lyon’s Maid article doesn't mention isn't really consequential; for instance, neither does the Gallup, Inc. article mention anywhere about compiling the UK charts in the 1980s/90s. The Rhodesian chart was known as the Lyons Maid Hits of the Week and was broadcast on their Radio 1.DPUH (talk) 07:47, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
I just found it weird that a British ice cream brand would be responsible for compiling charts in Zimbabwe. Gallup's status as the official UK chart provider in the 1980s and '90s is often discussed throughout Wikipedia articles, while there's very little information on Zimbabwe's music industry here, hence the confusion. Thanks for the clarification. snapsnap (talk) 16:02, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
No worries. Yeah I had to double check when I found out it was the ice cream brand. Haven't been able to find out why, but as you say, there is very little information, online anyway, about Zimbabwe's chart history. DPUH (talk) 16:11, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of True (Spandau Ballet song)

The article True (Spandau Ballet song) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:True (Spandau Ballet song) for comments about the article, and Talk:True (Spandau Ballet song)/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Cliff Richard discographies

Hi DPUH, thanks for your good work on Cliff's discography pages. Just to let you know, I added a note to the talk page Talk:Cliff_Richard_albums_discography about the release dates/formats. I know you had already worked it out, but I added it for the benefit of others. AusChartMan (talk) 14:32, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

@AusChartMan: Thank you for doing that. I did find several inaccuracies with the cliffrichardsongs website, but I suppose that is to be expected.
On a separate note, I'm dubious about the release date for Tracks 'n Grooves, with 30 November 1970 being a Monday. With releases at the time generally on Fridays, I'd had thought the album was released on 27 November, but can't find any information to verify... DPUH (talk) 18:56, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
@DPUH: Yes, whatever we look at, there are going to be potential inaccuracies, so cross-checking like you are doing is needed. And yes, it's difficult to confirm the Tracks 'n Grooves release date that finely - you could be right. The release date from the original DI was the best day-specific indicator I could find. They also had their own "official" Cliff discography that they put out and updated each year. When I get back from travels, I will check how much of it I have a copy of. DYK for True (Spandau Ballet song)

On 10 December 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article True (Spandau Ballet song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Gary Kemp put subtle references to Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita in his lyrics for Spandau Ballet's "True" so Clare Grogan would know the song was about her? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/True (Spandau Ballet song). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, True (Spandau Ballet song)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Discography vandal

Hi DPUH, thanks for reverting the Chilean discography vandal here. Wherever you find similar edits unnecessarily separating singles by decades, it's probably this IP editor, so please revert them. They've been a pest on and off since last year and I've been monitoring them on and off but I slacked off this month and they've returned, hitting up more discographies than usual. I've informed an admin. Thanks. Ss112 11:43, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

@Ss112, I presume they are the same one that removes any bubbling under peaks, as I've reverted most of those over the past week? Was wondering if it needed to be escalated, but anyway thanks for letting me know. DPUH (talk) 17:53, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Japanese chart book

Hello, I noticed that in this edit you used Oricon Album Chart Book: Complete Edition 1970–2005 as a reference - do you have this book in your possession? If yes, are you probably able to verify some chart information that I want to have checked? --Ali1610 (talk) 10:18, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

@Ali1610: Hi, no unfortunately I don't have the book, though I wish I did. I mainly get those chart positions from Ukmix which uses this book, see here [1] and here [2] – the information you want may be on one of these. Hope that helps, DPUH (talk) 16:24, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for that information, but as most edits are for relatively unknown artists, I doubt that there's somesthing written there. I could probably ask them, though... --Ali1610 (talk) 19:01, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
