Moving Katherine of Bosnia, Countess of Cilli

I was wondering if it would be better to move this to Katherine of Bosnia (1332-1385) or Katherine of Bosnia (d. 1385) because Countess of Cilli was her consort title not one that she held in her own right. If Katherine was the sister of Hungarian queen Elizabeth, she would be born in circa 1332 or 1334 and died 21 March 1385 according to this. Wait why didn't you just make it on Katherine of Bosnia?

Consort titles are sometimes used for disambiguation (e.g. Mary Tudor, Queen of France, and other queens of France). Katherine of Bosnia, Countess of Cilli is certainly better than Katherine of Bosnia (1332-1385), because the dates of her birth and death are uncertain - uncertain being an understatement, because none of the tertiary sources you use cite secondary sources. 21 March 1385 is the date of her husband's death, not her death. Unfortunatly, David, I haven't came across an image of the seal. I've searched long for it when I was creating Bosnian Wikipedia's article about Catherine. Regarding dispensations, they were needed for marrying in-laws as well; Henry VIII of England, for example, wasn't allowed to marry his sister-in-law until dispensation was granted and his marriage was a big problem even after though dispensation was granted. Oh, if you want to be even more confused by Catherine, read this: I've found a 19th-century book (whose author is a respected Croatian historian) about Catherine which states that she is daughter of Ban and King Tvrtko I of Bosnia (whom other sources identify as her brother or cousin)! However, we can easily dismiss that book; other historians and most people with common sense argue that, since he was 23 years old when Catherine got married and 24 when she gave birth to her first child, Tvrtko simply didn't have time to conceive Catherine. I found the image of Elizabeth and Mary on the Internet. It's a 19th-century depiction of the two queens in captivity. I wasn't really working on Casimir III's wives; I've just divided a section in sub-secions and created a redirect for his last wife because I hated the red link on Elizabeth of Bosnia article :) I know nothing about Casimir's wives, but I suppose we could find out something about Hedwig. I've started gathering information about Elizabeth of Serbia here. I would help you create a page about Catherine of Hungary, Queen of Serbia. Oh, by the way, I think you'll be interested in two women who were regarded as heiresses presumptive to the throne of Hungary - Elizabeth, Princess of Taranto and Achaea, and her cousin Catherine. Elizabeths

I haven't realized how important Elizabeth of Bosnia is for the history of Hungary until I started reading about her. She was far from kind fairy-tale princesses; she was a mother who fought for her daughters' rights and a "forceful but ruthless politician". I've found books that appear to contain lots of information about Elizabeth of Serbia's political activities during the reign of her son, but I don't have full access to those books. It's a shame because she appears to have influenced her son significantly and was politically active herself. Surtsicna (talk) 19:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Catherine probably wasn't alive at that point, as many Serbian queens exercised more power as dowagers than they did as consorts; they were involved in charities and many joined monasteries which made them popular among the people. Elizabeth of Kuyavia's mother is unknown; Elizabeth's brother was Władysław the White. All the sources I've encountered using Google Book Search mention that "Elizabeth bore three daughters in a row: Catherine, Mary, and Hedwig". They do not mention the Mary which Medieval Lands mention. As Medieval Lands doesn't cite any source which proves her existance, we should probably avoid mentioning her. I've removed some information which did not concern Elizabeth of Kuyavia. The article is pretty good! If you come across any information using Google Book Search, add it as a reference! You could start with searching for information which are already in the article and then cite books which give that mention. Also, if (eg) Medieval Lands cite a source for a certain information, you should cite that source rather than Medieval Lands because Medieval Lands is a tertiary and unreliable source. Their father was also Duke of Kalisz and the sisters are known as "XX of Kalisz" (try Google Book Search). I was following the line of descent from Euphrosyne of Opole and I was amazed how many lines died out. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the only descendants of Euphrosyne are the descendants of her granddaughter Kunigunde of Poland. Surtsicna (talk) 15:42, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

I think Jadwiga of Kalisz should be moved to Hedwig of Kalisz because no reliable source refers to her as Jadwiga of Kalisz (or Jadwiga of Greater of Poland), while at least one reliable source refers to her as Hedwig of Kalisz and that's Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages. It doesn't matter how she is known in Polish, as this is Wikipedia in English. Unfortunatly, Medieval Lands is a tertiary source and as such it is unreliable (however, information sourced by secondary sources in English are reliable). For example, Medieval Lands refers to Isabella I of Castile as Isabel, although English-language sources clearly use the name Isabella more often. Surtsicna (talk) 18:05, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Elizabeth of Bosnia's daughter seems to be known as Jadwiga in English, while her ancestress is known as Hedwig; usage is important. I would, for example, refer to Hedwig of Kalisz as Jadwiga in the article about Jadwiga of Poland so that readers know that they were namesakes - I would also refer to Jadwiga of Poland as Hedwig in the article about Hedwig of Kalisz. Miroslac Marek claims that Tvrtko II of Bosnia was married to a niece of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor. I've already found a reliable source which claims that the Republic of Dubrovnik wrote letters to the queen of Bosnia, wife of King Tvrtko II, in 1404. The source mentions her parent's name, but I can't see the name unless I buy the book or guess the name on my own. So, I need your help, David. Which of Sigismund's siblings and half-siblings had marriageable daughters in 1404?

Unfortunatly, Miroslav Marek's site cannot be used a source for Wiki articles, as it is not a reliable source. Besides, I've found numerous factual mistakes; for example, no historian disputes that Dorothy Garai was Queen of Bosnia as the second wife (1428-1438) of Tvrtko II. This is what I managed to find about her. Few secondary sources mention her and some of those mention that she was regent, although briefly. She was surely very powerful and significant, but we need more information. Try using Google Book Search; perhaps you'll have more luck when searching about her than I did. They look fine, though you should change "Nicole" in both captions to "Scherzinger" to keep how she's referred to consistent with the rest of the article (remember that we refer to people by their last names, as using their first names imply that we know them on a first-name basis). With the Dolls third album, I've heard rumors, but they're not anything I would want to add to the article, and nothing appears to be confirmed at the moment. Best. Duchess Swinisława of Pomerania

About the wife of Duke Mestwin I, in almost all the sources I consulted she never appears; according to sources, she probably belonged to a Gdansk or Russian noble family, of course, this wasn't discarted his parentage with the Piast dynasty, but is better to maintain Swinisława's parentage as unknown. Maria of Bosnia

Are you in a mood for another medieval lady whose parentage is a mystery? I was searching for information about Maria of Bosnia, Countess of Helfenstein. She seems to have been important, as many German language sources mention her (see these books, these books, these books and these books). Our article about the House of Helfenstein mentions her and so does German Wiki's article about the House of Helfenstein. She was married to Ulrich X, Count of Helfenstein. Her father was a son of Stephen I, Ban of Bosnia, but who was he? Stephen I had three sons: Stephen II, Vladislav and Ninoslav. Was Maria a sister of Queen Elizabeth of Hungary or a sister of Countess Catherine of Cilli or a sister of King Tvrtko I of Bosnia or a sister of King Stephen Dabiša of Bosnia? She was (half)sister of some of these people and first cousin of the others. Medieval Lands claims that she was a daughter of Ninoslav (who might have been the father of Dabiša). German Wiki's article claims that she was a sister of Tvrtko I (thus daughter of Vladislav). 19th-century German books claim that she was a sister of the wife of King Louis I of Hungary (thus daughter of Stephen II and sister of Catherine).
