Terminology[edit]

Thanks! Hmm. Uhh, links from the glossary =yes. But there's also something fancy where ... uhh, I'm not sure. Okay, I'll make a list: melittophily, psychophily, phalaenophily, myophily, sapromyophily, cantharophily and therophily. And then there's ornithophily and entomophily which have their own article. Chiropterophily apparently leads back to the article on pollination syndromes, I don't know about that -I'll ask the bat people (person). A further complication is that all these terms have three versions. Melittophily is the process, the plant is a melittophile, melittophilous is the adjective. Hey, there are more links already. Oops, Leo, I promised to ping you above about WP:FLC and then I forgot. List of descriptive plant epithets (I–Z) has already been promoted to Featured List. Right, I'll have a looksee in a bit. I was thinking further on how to rationalise the links above. Two go back to the article on pollination syndrome: that's wrong in my opinion: that article should only explain the characteristics by which plants can be judged as being pollinated by a certain animal, as well as a critique and history of the theory. To wit, it is completely possible to have a plant pollinated by bees which superficially has the pollination syndrome of butterflies. But I'm a bit stuck with what to do with entomophily: do I chop it up, or merge it, or expand it by chopping up zoophily? I've left some messages at the relevant WikiProjects... nothing yet. Think give it a bit, ask around more, wait till what I think is best crystallises. I see numerous options here. I thought of some more to add to zoophily I could easily add a page or two on weird botany and consequences for evolutionary theory. In the meantime I'm working on some EU legislation stuff. Thanks. The EU legislation sounds interesting. Note that the list at FLC tries (when possible) to come up with one or two meanings that include the Latin or Greek meanings from 2000 years ago, so there's some compromise and lack of precision in the process ... our taxonomic lists will be more precise. - Dank (push to talk) 14:58, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

TFA question[edit]

Hello, I’m reaching out to you in search of guidance as to whether a TFA nomination would be advisable. On 25 March 2021, the city of Venice in Italy will commemorate its sixteen-hundred-year anniversary, having been founded, according to legend, on 25 March 401. For that day, I would like to nominate the Biblioteca Marciana for TFA since it is the only institution of the Venetian government that survives and continues to function. My concern, frankly, is the elevated risk of vandalism that plagues the FA on the home page of Wikipedia. The Marciana belongs to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and is an official institution of the Italian government. So naturally the derogatory, misleading, promotional, or vulgar edits that are routinely made to the TFA are of concern. My understanding is that semi-protection was once possible for the TFA. Our policy is that it shouldn't be protected without cause. In practice, there is rarely objection when a TFA is protected because of vandalizing or such edits. I would suggest reminding us of your concerns closer to the time, perhaps when you nominate at WP:TFA/R..--Wehwalt (talk) 17:14, 10 October 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Dank, Wehwalt, Hello, you may recall that I am planning on nominating the article on the Biblioteca Marciana for TFA on 25 March 2021. However, I noticed a recent edit to the page by TFA Protector Bot which has protected the article until 11 January 2021 as an upcoming TFA. This seems to be independent of my request for 25 March.
