Surname "Shankbone"

What a curious name, Shankbone. Doesn't sound vegetarian. Do mention something about its origin, the House of Shankbone? (restaurant?:-) OK, too much blood and guts... Call for votes on a new name!:-) Jidanni 23:26, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Dear David!

I think you are the most beautiful man I have ever seen and I love your photos and would do anything to be able to see more photos of you! I especially love the nude ones and would love to see more!

Yeah I must spend more time over there, but from my little corner of the world not there's not that many interesting people available. If at any time you want a hand researching, fact checking just ask. Gnangarra 04:53, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We can always use help crafting interviews, and shaping more policy. Many comments that are being made have to do with people's unfamiliarity with the way Wikinews works, although our latchkey crew can use some help. --David Shankbone 05:50, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Israel visit

Merry Christmas, I just learnt that you are on a visit to Israel. While I understand that such visits can be important for you as a wikipedia editor, I believe that you should try to also visit the Palestinian areas to be exposed to the other side of the story. I know that you are here on a state sponsored visit which might place some restrictions. If possible, I would like to invite you to visit Ramallah, which is only one and a half hours drive from Tel Aviv. I volunteer with a local youth organisation which can attempt to give you an insight on life in Palestine, me and my colleagues would love to host you here. If you have the time and are able to come, please email me at nzahran@leaders.ps, or you can call me at 0599-293060 (it is a local call from Israel). best.

Nedal, I would have loved to have visited Ramallah. I am now back in New York, although a future trip may be in the offing. I will write you privately over e-mail to discuss; however, they kept us so busy with our schedules filled 12 to 14 hours a day that it was difficult to do anything outside of the structured visit. I will write you to discuss. --David Shankbone 15:25, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You were naive to allow yourself to be used by the Israeli government. They didn't spend their taxpayers money in the hope of receiving neutral edits, but in the hope of receiving biased edits. Your compliance with this should be seen as a breach of ethics, and as not compatible with the spirit of neutrality. Postlebury (talk) 07:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no fan of the Israeli government, but man, that voice sounds familiar…oh yes, I recognize you: Jealousy. -Pete (talk) 07:16, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. As I told the Israelis, even if I *wanted* to write something with a positive POV, it would make no difference since other people edit my work. But, peopl will always criticize regardless of what you do. --David Shankbone 16:12, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You removed a photo of a souvenir shop in the article Nazareth and replaced it with a photo of "a Palestinian boy with a toy gun". POV edits like that on the tail of a free trip to Israel sponsored by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs do nothing to offset the concerns of your fellow editors regarding your ability to maintain NPOV on related issues. Hi David. I will change the title of your image to greek orthodox priest as greek orthodox man can refer to all orthodox christians and...well we do not walk around with rasa and beards the rest of us... we are quite secular. Wikinews as a reference

Hi David,

you know how big a fan I am of your work and how much I respect you, but please refrain from edits like this (I know it was a while ago) which I just turned into this. Let's base our medical articles on scientific papers and not on media sources -I prefer American Journal of Psychiatry over BBC Health or any other media source including the opinion of one very respected professor.

Additionally, it is improper to quote your own pen name in a reference to the interview, as Wikinews articles no longer belong to the authors and should be attributed to Wikinews only, even if one author went through a whole lot of trouble and effort for an article. I'm glad you're trying to see how your work on Wikinews can improve Wikipedia but in light of the recent discussions I wanted to make sure you understand that this is not appropriate.

Pie Hole

Hi,

I agree the pie hole redirect is problematic, but see the history of the redirect for Pie hole. Should it go to pushing daisies or to mouth? I think mouth. But User:Connorjack might disagree. I don't really know what is better, and really don't want to spend the time figuring it out. Dream is too much of a pile of crap right now :) I'll leave it alone as I'm not sure myself what should happen. WLU (talk) 16:00, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should probably go to mouth. I dunno - the see also redirect at the top is for things that people may be commonly looking for. For instance, when someone enters in John Barrymore they come to Senior, and there is a redirect tag at the top telling them about the article for Drew Barrymore's father. The idea is to not have people read an article (or search fruitlessly) for something that they may commonly be looking for by entering words into the search box. So, is "The Pie Hole" restaurant from a television shown something people will really be searching for? If so, then there's an argument for the redirect. --David Shankbone 16:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I see the issue as well, and it's because PD is such a successful show that I'm not sure what to do. It's a touch judgement call. If I have any thoughts or CJ expresses an opinion, I'll let you know. WLU (talk) 16:12, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now why didn't we think of that? WLU (talk) 16:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to preempt the discussion; I saw this go by on David's page and decided to be bold. I'm not particularly wedded to that solution—if you guys feel strongly one way or the other you can override my dab. (The wording of the dab probably could stand some work, if we do keep it.) TenOfAllTrades(talk) 16:38, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that was a good solution. I don't feel strongly one way or the other, not even on the mouth article itself. I wouldn't have reverted a revert, although I think Ten's solution is the best by far. I'm sure there's other "Pie Hole" uses out there, record albums or something....--David Shankbone 16:47, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<indent>Agreed, I think it's probably the best solution for a fairly ambiguous problem. I'll drop a line on CJ's page to alert him of this discussion; if it continues we may want to move it over to the dab page's talk page - I'll leave that decision up to DS. WLU (talk) 16:48, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Pie Hole

Pie Hole really can't be redirected to Mouth as some people may find it offensive. That's just a thought. Maybe Pie Hole should have a disambiguation page? Connorjack (talk) 17:12, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not censored. Plus I don't really see it as offensive. And look above - there is a DAB page :) WLU (talk) 17:06, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't notice it was a disambiguation page, but maybe it should stay like that? It might be found offensive by some people (maybe even to vegetarians).Connorjack (talk) 17:12, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think pie hole is offensive itself, certainly not like cunt, fuck or a variety of other articles we have. I think the DAB works. --David Shankbone 17:31, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or the most hilariously deadpan page on wikipedia, shit. Offensive to vegetarians? I don't follow. I do think it should remain a DAB page. WLU (talk) 17:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said before, I think it should remain a DAB page. (PS: People can still take offensive of swearing)Connorjack (talk) 18:37, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Erection

An editor has nominated Erection, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Erection and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey David

Hi David, we've talked before a while ago....perhaps a year or so? We edited some of the same pieces and I enjoyed seeing your photo work. Just wanted to say I am SO impressed that in that time you've become a Wikinews reporter! Pretty awesome stuff.

I've been doing a lot of freelance writing, and I write for a site dedicated to soap operas, so I was pretty amazed by your interview with Victoria Wyndham. Good stuff! NickBurns (talk) 02:50, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nick - Thanks for the kudos and glad you enjoyed the Wyndham interview. --David Shankbone 17:41, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NYC Meetup

Maybe you could bring your digital audio recorder to the meeting (to help with taking meeting minutes). Last time someone brought a 20th-century-style tape recorder, which worked OK, but it was pretty suboptimal. Thanks.--Pharos (talk) 06:12, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

louis golding

I have next to me a book entitled "The Bare-Knuckle Breed" by Louis Golding.

It was dedicated to my parents and first published 1952. My father's signed copy was stolen!

Could this be the book the Wiki article maintains as published in 1947?

best regards

Vote for a post-meetup restaurant

I'm charged with making the reservations for us, so let's make it official. We'll do this via voting and everyone including anonymous voters, sockpuppets, and canvassed supporters is enfranchised. Voting irregularities and election fraud are encouraged as that would be really amusing in this instance. Please vote for whichever restaurant you would like to eat at given the information provided above and your own personal prejudices at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC#Let's make it official. The prevailing restaurant will be called first for the reservation. If a reservation cannot be obtained at the winning restaurant, the runner-up restaurant will be called thus making this entire process pointless. Voting ends 24 hours after this timestamp (because I said so). ScienceApologist (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Mr Sharpton

Please ask Mr Sharpton about his feelings towards the Tiger=Kelly

1. Please ask him why he feels that comment was so racist?

Has our race been the "only" one ever LYNCHED?

I believe only one who wants to breed racism would take that comment offensive and racist!

I heard this comment live and I took it as a compliment to a man of our race, that his skills are so far ahead of his fellow competitors ( not only this generation but ones to come) that the only way they can have a chance is to get him out of the picture.....not literally, only racist idiot would take them as rasism- or someone that want a forum to get his name in headlines...........

I feel this way now of Mr. Sharpton, the only way we are going to achieve true equality is to get him out of picture, "LYNCH" him (tounge in cheek). He is setting us back, not moving our cause forward.

2. Ask him why she should lose her position at the network?

She made a public appology for her statement, them most of all to Tiger himself. What more do you ask of her?

When he embarrassed our race with his comments towards the LDS church and he offered is appology did they not accept it with humility? Did they ask for his neck? To lose his livelyhood? Different when shoe on other foot.

PLEASE-Tell him that people that trruly want equality beleive that racism breeds racism and he is one of the worst offenders, that he is a 2 face individual, that it looks as if he can get his face in the news he will jump! No matter the issue, no matter the forum. If jumping at every little comment made is racist, he better look in mirror because most his comment I read bring a barrier between all.

I see thing as all should be equal, from schooling, employement, sports etc. I find it embarrassing in some forums how we want equality but then we go about having all "black" colleges, scholarships, churches, funds etc. If the "white" would have any near what we assume is our right to have they would be considered racist etc.

I grew up in the inner city, true inner city, our race was not the only poor, under privledged, nor neglected. I did see the hatred and racism on a daily basis, but it was more our race protraying the hatred & jealousy. Great steps have been made in our county towards equality, but to achieve true equality we must think and act as equals, not with a chip on our shoulder as Mr. Sharpton has.

Please ask him to put the shoe on other foot befroe he puts foot in mouth next time!

Please put him in his place in your interview for all America and World for true equality —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.228.180.124 (talk) 06:38, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, David. Image:Orthodox couple on Shabbat in Jerusalem by David Shankbone.jpg is a nice picture, but the man is wearing a Shtreimel, not a Kolpik. The shtreimel usually has a wider diameter, and kolipks often have the velvet center extend above the fur level, where shtreimel's do not. So I removed the picture from the kolpik article. Thanks. -- Avi (talk) 19:27, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for explaining the difference. --David Shankbone 19:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Peep Show Photo. Under GNU

High David,

I'm working on a documentary and would like to know if I can use this and or other photographs of yours under the GNU. I've read part of the license and it seems to be mostly for text? If I can use in my doc do I put the entire license in the end credits?

Thanks!
