Even although it is mostly used for Featured Articles, it can still be used, however, without it wanting to have featured article status.

I have noticed that you are removing at chabad.org from many links. It is there so users can know in general what type of website they are going to before they go there, and you will see on my pages other names of oganizations by their website. It's just that 40-odd people are using that portion of the template, and if you put more than about 3 letters in the boxes don't line up the same. I was worried the change would screw things up for people who like to keep their userboxes all in a line. I think it might be a good idea to ask around and see what people think before making a change that's going to affect the look of dozens of people's user pages. Hi. Just an opinionated comment. It seems that an Anarchist user template should be black and white; black and red is generally more associated with Anarchist Communism, Anarcho-Syndicalism, and others of the sort, whereas the pure Anarchist flag is nothing but black. If I knew how to construct templates, I'd make one as such. Just something to think about.

Translator list

You mention at Talk:Yiddish language that you are a native speaker. Can I encourage you to sign up at Wikipedia:Translators_available#Yiddish-to-English? As you can see, we have only one person signed up there. While there are almost no articles in the Yiddish Wikipedia, it's not that unusual for someone to need translation help with a text they need to cite for an English-language article. - Jmabel | Talk 05:00, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Actually, there's only one Wikipedian willing to be a translator. I am user:atheistrabbi, I was posting for several weeks and then forgot my password. If you have the ability, or know someone who has the ability, I'd appreciate if the account got deleted.

Also, despite my recent conversion to GNU Linux and Mozilla Firefox, I still have know idea how to type Hebrew alphabet in Wikipedia. I definitely am not in the mood of cut-and-pasting or typing awfully long character strings. I need to be able to either type on the keyboard or click around in the little box downstairs like when I'm writing in the Greek alphabet. Also, I need to figure out how to configure my browser so that the vowels go under the letters instead of being counted as a character in and of themselves; it makes it really difficult to read. Once that little hurdle is out of the way, I'm more than willing to contribute in any way necessary. In addition to being a native speaker of Yiddish, I work as an independent researcher and translator of Yiddish-language materials. And yes, I do take requests. Daykart 01:49, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't know the details of how to get accounts closed or merged; it's out there somewhere in the Community Portal; I'm virtually certain it takes a developer, and hence tends not to happen. However, you don't need any "magic" to redirect the user page and user talk page to your new account, and I suggest that you do that.

On the typing thing: have you asked over at the Hebrew Wikipedia? I have only a bare clue how that is properly done on Microsoft systems, and no idea how it is done on GNU Linux. Browser should be irrelevant. -- Jmabel | Talk 07:12, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

You can try explaining to him that he is not the only Lubavitcher on wikipedia, and that other Lubavitchers have been able to work with others on improving the articles. The fact that he is a Lubavitcher is a plus because that means that he has alot of knoledge on Chassidus related subjects which wikipedia could use alot of help on. I will let him know, But now I feel left out. I too have alot of knowledge on Chasidus related subjects, point me in the right direction and I will help. I'm not your average Lubavitcher Freiack, I was one of the most learned and most Chassidisheh students in my class. You know, the kind who stays up at a Farbrengen until 4am and nonetheless comes to Seder Chasidus at 7:30am. My reasons for leaving the system had very little to do with an inability or unwillingness to conform. Oh yeah, and if you stop by Oholei Torah this Thursday night, feel free to say hi. The kind that stays up until 4am and then comes to Chassidus at 7:30 is usually falling asleep over his Maamor not to mention the hangover. Something to consider is the age that you left the system, the last few years of Zal is when you would have learnt chassidus at the deepest levels of all your years in Yeshiva. I don't know the exact year that you left yeshiva, but if it was when you were 18, then you missed 2 years of potentialy learning chassidus at a deeper level than ever before. Regarding articles related to chassidus that need work. There is all the Sefirot, and various levels of Seder Hishtalshelus which most of the articles deal more with the non jewish view than the Jewish one. Also what is missing is the Chassidus part of the Kabbalah related articles, meaning how to practically appy this to your day to day service of G-d and performance of mitzvot. I figured you'd come up with a Shtech like that. Only the Leil Shishi Farbrengens last until 4am; and with three hours of sleep, one is refreshed enough to stay awake throughout the entire day Friday. Although I left Yeshivah at the age of 18, I didn't quit learning Niglah or Chasidus when I dropped out. Actually, my Chaverim comment to me that only my Chitzoiniyus has changed, and I agree with them. It's hard to explain, but if you listen to me speak, (particularly about anarchism,) you will understand what I mean. I'll start working on those articles sometime this week. Freilichen Chanukah! Moving pages and templates

Greetings.

I noticed that you are part of the effort to move all the userbox templates to a name of the form Template:User $FOO, where $FOO is the name of the original template.

It is almost always preferable to move such pages using the "move" link at the top of your page (it's next to the "Watch" link), rather than cutting-and-pasting the contents of the page into a new page. When you move the page, all of the edit history for the page is retained, which is necessary for the GFDL requirements.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Nice page, and long overdue. The only change I made was the change the phrase "the rebbe laid the cornerstone..." to "Schneerson laid the cornerstone...". To a cimplete outsider it was never spelled out that Schneerson was the Rebbe, so they might not realize it means the same person. (As I said, a very minor change). Also, a little section the whole plaque controversy might be in order, just make sure to stick to verifiable facts and timelines so as not to tick off anyone. :-) --Bachrach44 18:03, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. John MacDougall

You recently flagged John MacDougall for "notability".

Mac was a regional giant in the news business - the very voice and face of the infant TV news business in the upper midwest as the form took shape. It would not be an exaggeration to say he was the Walter Cronkite of the upper midwest from 1955 to 1975.

While you may be unfamiliar with upper midwest broadcast history, it'd be a mistake to concluse MacDougall was not notable; he is certainly more than notable enough by Wikipedia standards.
