Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Dbeusee. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Charlotte Summers, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 17:19, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Theroadislong: Hi, hopefully I did everything correctly - I updated the talk page for the article and my own talk page here, below. Is everything in order? What needs to be done now to remove the notice at the top of the article? What flagged you to realize my potential COI? Was it only the edit summary? I try to keep all content on the article without bias. Did you see anything biased? If so, please tell me what text shows bias and why, and I'll edit it, whether it was mine or not, if I can figure out how to resolve it. Some of it isn't mine. Out of respect for the original author, I kept some of his wording. I never had any contact with that original author, and he made no attempt to contact me, nor has anyone raised any conflicting content in the article. @Theroadislong: Hi, I just saw the history of the changes you made, and I saw that you removed some colorful text written by another editor. I originally left it there out of respect, but I guess I shouldn't have. I hope you didn't think that came from me! Dbeusee (talk) 01:55, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Theroadislong: BTW, with the "Connected contributor" template, what does "U1-EH" mean? I gather that "U1-declared" simply means I declared the COI here on my talk page. Dbeusee (talk) 09:26, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest declaration[edit]

This user has publicly declared that they have a conflict of interest regarding the Wikipedia article Charlotte Summers.

I am a fan of Charlotte Summers. In November 2019, I started a fan club for her fans, called "Amazing Charlotte Summers Fan Club" on Facebook, of which I am the admin. While I think most fans are the contributors of their various artists Wikipedia article as I am, I am guessing most do not run a fan club and do not have any contact with them or their parents. I do, and that seems to be a concern.

However, I contributed to her Wikipedia page on my own. They have not instructed me to do so, and I am not getting paid by anyone to do this. They have not told me what to put in my contributions, or what NOT to include, with the exception that they asked me to remove their names (mother and father have been removed from the infobox) for privacy reasons, and I was not the one who put that information there in the first place.

Also, if you look at the content of my contributions, you will see that I was very aware of the rules against bias. My contributions have been factual based, and in fact if you compare with the original article before my contributions, you will see that I have removed the more colorful language of the article and made it more professional and I gave it some better organization. I tried to contact the original author of the page before I did anything, but I got no response, so I proceeded to do my own editing, and to date, nothing I contributed has been contested. I would like to keep contributing directly, especially since there doesn't seem to be any other active editor for her page, and I will deal with any conflicts professionally and respectfully, as they arise, provided it isn't just a case of bullying.

If you need any more information from me, please feel free to ask. Dbeusee (talk) 23:19, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
