Speedy deletion of Image:Pm5544.png[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Pm5544.png, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Uploaded in Commons. Image:Philips PM5544.gif

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Image:Pm5544.png|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Albertsab 18:45, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NFPA 704 template[edit]

I just noticed that if one uses the "Other" hazards parameter in the template, it produces a different appearance of the code number in the graphic -- smaller and thinner than Health, Flammability and Reactivity. The latter three call for font-size: large;, while the former calls for font-size: small;. Was this an oversight? —QuicksilverT @ 21:14, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the part about OX and W special codes. Was it because those codes wouldn't fit if the font size had been specified as "large"? It just looks weird to me if one actually fills in the Other parameter in the template. —QuicksilverT @ 22:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Sock problems (User talk:Masamage)[edit]

But linked changes sounds way more high-tech! ...more seriously, I think the special page is Special:Recentchangeslinked (yeesh, quite a mouthful), although the toolbox link is "Related changes." Minor preference issue. As long as everybody knows what we're talking about, no big deal. I think. Figures I set the list up without noticing the WikiProject watchlist, heh. ;) I'll keep it for awhile (just too used to doing that in my userspace), but like the others, it'll be deleted or written over. – Luna Santin (talk) 03:59, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Tch.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tch.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Cavenba 03:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:ASL_Romeo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ASL_Romeo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 05:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vector graphics[edit]

Hey, thanks for your fast reply. Image:Ukraine Large Coat of Arms.jpgAlex (T|C|E) 05:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll get to work on that as soon as I can. I will vectorize all of the details my keen eyes can make out. -- Denelson83 05:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! The reason I wanted it vectored is because that coat of arms is going to become official very soon. — Alex (T|C|E) 05:35, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about Inkscape when you have time. I tried vectoring that image myself, but gave up. — Alex (T|C|E) 05:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you need construction sheets for vectoring the middle of that coat of arms, here they are: [1] and [2]. :-) — Alex(T|C|E) 06:00, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I won't need those construction sheets. -- Denelson83 06:12, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I just thought I'd let you know, just in case. — Alex(T|C|E) 06:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I'd let you know, I'll rework those construction sheets tomorrow, and I think the current small coat of arms contains some inaccuracies (according to the construction sheets), so don't use it yet. I'll let you know when I'll fix it. — Alex(T|C|E) 09:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind for now... When I get done I'll change the large coat of arms file myself. Let me know how you're doing on it. :-) — Alex(T|C|E) 06:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Letting you know that I have just started tracing this image. -- Denelson83 01:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm working on a couple of things myself. One of them is trying to get the Ukrainian government to adopt that coat of arms, the other is drawing the small coat of arms by those construction sheets (which I found out came from the official law about the small coat of arms). Thanks again! — Alex(T|C|E) 09:42, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
SURPRISE!!! -- Denelson83 05:03, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, didn't expect that after coming home from a long day! Awesome job! Thanks a million! :-) — Alex(T|C|E) 07:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the image around a bit, since I got done with drawing the lesser coat of arms from the construction sheets. Which is correct for a coat of arms, "lesser" or "small"? — Alex(T|C|E) 23:16, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, it will be a while before that Coat of Arms becomes official. :-( — Alex(T|C|E) 04:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deletion of PGSM fair-use images[edit]

It was my discretion, as the closing admin, to determine whether these images satisfied fair use criteria. I will gladly explain my reasoning behind these deletions to WP:SM, just as I have explained it to JuJube[3]. Nevertheless, please be aware that I do not respond well to intimidation, and that I find your threat of an RFC to be completely unwarranted and in poor taste. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:15, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's perfectly understandable. If you're into a particular field, you obviously have the best in mind for the related articles. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flag image size[edit]

Can I ask what the reasoning is behind making the flag picture 201 pixels as opposed to 200? If there's some significant purpose to this, all the pages on Canadian Lieutenant Governors will have to be changed. I can help you do this. --G2bambino 19:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think image sizes on articles should be changed for that reason? It may not affect anyone but you. I don't particularly care one way or the other - there's no big deal with one pixel - but I'd like all the LG articles to be consistent in format, and I wonder whether it's more work to change all 10 articles than fixing something on your browser. ;) --G2bambino 19:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chibiusa picture[edit]

Could you undelete this image? We need it for the main article, and just in time, I think I've figured out what episode it was from, the lack of which is what got it deleted before. Thanks! :) I found the episode number and updated the summary page accordingly. I also thought it should be cropped, because her face was way smaller than everybody else's on the main article. Thanks for expanding on my edit by including the call signs for the two tv stations currently broadcasting in Nanaimo. The links you placed are intuituve. However, the text you added is not quite accurate. Yes, both channels are carried locally on cable on the channels you mentioned. BUT, these signals are also BROADCAST on these frequencies. It is my opinion that it is an important distinction a new resident may want to watch local news and not have a cable service subscription. I intend to edit to clarify this fact. How can a boat run aground offshore???[edit]

Hi Denelson83, you asked the above question in an edit summary at BC Ferries. This is how it happens: the hull of the vessel hits the bottom while the vessel is still far from the shore. For example, if the ship has a draft of 20 ft, it will hit bottom (run aground) in anything less than 20 ft of water, which could be hundreds of feet (or even miles in some cases) from the shore. I think that nearly 100% of grounding accidents occur when a vessel is a considerable distance from any shoreline. The photo of Queen of Oak Bay clearly shows the vessel in the marina, but well offshore, and it was definitely stopped only by running into the mud on the bottom. Many more excellent photos of the ferry and the accident are at http://www.pbase.com/kstapleton/queen_of_oak_bay .

Hope this answers your question, and that you don't mind me reverting your edit. Thanks. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 08:37, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have used the various images on my talk page to describe my wikimood on site. This last Monday, I posted the Neg10 image for the first time. I will not bother you with the details of why I have done so. What I was wondering was, can you create a Neg11 image? Yes, Neg11, because I am there. -- Jason Palpatine 08:34, 2 May 2007 (UTC) This User wishes (but too often fails) understanding of Wikipedia's systematized logistical projection of its balanced policy contingency. Thank you for the info. I was imagining a depiction of the guage broken with the pointer twisted out of shape with -11 handwritten in the lower left and the word BALISTIC or the expression IN ORBIT undrneath. Oh well. I compromised by using the mood template. I put the lable NEG11 as the caption. Gets the point across, I think. To anyone paying attention that is.

Hello Denelson83, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Ca-on-wd.gif) was found at the following location: User talk:Denelson83/Archive page 7. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Please note that it is possible that the image on your page is included vie a template or usebox. In that case, please find a free image for the template or userbox. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 10:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:British_Columbia_provincial_highway_1.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I have tagged Image:Bc97d.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Yes, I do use the Monobook skin when browsing Wikipedia, and no, it seems I don't know how to fix it in Firefox/Monobook. Maybe take the problem to the general community and see what it comes up with? -- Denelson83 22:16, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CBC-stub[edit]

Hi Denelson83

I've removed the logo again. I'm not trying to be a dick and I personally think that WP:Fairuse section 9 sucks by its insistence that non-free images may not be used in template space, but it doesn't look like this policy is going to change anytime soon. On the contrary, Wikipedia is clamping down on the use of fair use images in general. WP:WSS has been criticised for a dozen or so similar cases before, so we're trying to avoid repetitions. The problem isn't U.S. law, but Wikimedia's self-imposed restrictions regarding fair use images. Happy editing. Valentinian T / C 10:46, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Vrt.gif[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Vrt.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CBC redirect protection[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the protection be on the version that existed before the edit war started? This issue was discussed on the talk page and it was generally decided that CBC should redirect to the disam page. JohnnyB 14:45, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Bob_McKeown.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Bob_McKeown.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 10:24, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:25913.png[edit]

Regarding Image:25913.png (now orphaned/replaced) - it is in my opinion so simple as to be inaccurate (see the image talk page). Someone recently uploaded a much improved map: Image:HaidaGwaiiOMC.png. If you have no objections to the original's deletion, since you are the author and an admin I thought you might want to speedy it yourself to avoid clog at WP:IFD. Wikimood meter[edit]

Hi, I really love the wikimood tool and was was wondering if you would consider a minor renaming on one of them.

Current syntax is:

  • 10 Runaway
  • 9 Wild
  • 8 Crazy
  • 7 Zealous
  • 6 Enthusiastic
  • 5 Cheerful
  • 4 Happy
  • 3 Content
  • 2 Receptive
  • 1 Calm
  • 0 Neutral
  • -1 Withdrawn
  • -2 Depressed
  • -3 Upset
  • -4 Distressed
  • -5 Frustrated
  • -6 Ornery
  • -7 Hostile
  • -8 Enraged
  • -9 Violent
  • -10 Explosive

How about this:

  • 10 Runaway
  • 9 Wild
  • 8 Crazy
  • 7 Zealous
  • 6 Enthusiastic
  • 5 Cheerful
  • 4 Happy
  • 3 Content
  • 2 Receptive
  • 1 Calm
  • 0 Neutral
  • -1 Withdrawn
  • -2 Upset
  • -3 Distressed
  • -4 Frustrated
  • -5 Depressed
  • -6 Melancholic
  • -7 Ornery
  • -8 Violent
  • -9 Hostile
  • -10 Enraged

What I did was juggle the negative ones a bit removing "Explosive" and introducing "Melancholic".

What do you think? -- Cat chi? 17:48, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

No, they should stay as they are. Besides, "depressed" is a less-intense emotion than "frustrated". I labelled these wikimoods so that the emotions are more intense the further they are from the zero point. -- Denelson83 23:59, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see, where would you put Melancholic if you were doing this? -- Cat chi? 06:22, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Notability of OMR Band[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on OMR Band, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because OMR Band seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting OMR Band, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Thanks for your thoughts on the almanac download times in GPS signals. I've reverted the text, and cleaned up what was there a little bit, but typed a bunch of info into the talk page to answer the question you posted in your change description. Image source problem with Image:Ab3.png[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Ab3.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. SQL Slammer - possible correction[edit]

Denelson83, My apologies if I run afoul of any wikipedia etiquette as I am simply a casual user and not a content editor. This message is the first I have ever posted to this service.

I am reaching out to you for assistance in correcting what I believe to be an error on the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_Slammer. I see you have edited this page in the past so I thought you would be a person to contact. The article states the following: "Slammer was first brought to the attention of the public by Michael Bacarella." There is a Notes section later that sites Mr. Bacarella's post to Bugtrac as being first. I was surprised to see this as I was under the impression that I was the first to alert the public via the microsoft.public.sqlserver.security newsgroup nearly two hours earlier (6:27:10 UTC). Here is a link to the first post I made where I said that this appeared to be a worm taking advantage of the security vulnerability in Microsoft article MS02-039: http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.sqlserver.security/2003-01/4612.html. I posted the same message two minutes later to microsoft.public.security newsgroup: http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.security/2003-01/11365.html.

Please note that these posts to the MS newsgroups also can be found in the Google Groups archive. I used the links above instead because they were time stamped.

As I am not an experienced editor on Wikipedia and do not want to do anything wrong. I guess I would first ask if you agree with me that the article is in error. Second, if it is in error can you assist me in setting the record straight?

Thank you for your time. Punchinello325 (talk) 23:03, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
