Route 10 bridge

I just did a quick web search and added what I could find. The main sources are [1] [2] and [3]. I checked the NRHP and the MassHighway historic bridge list but the current Route 10 bridge is not listed. A more careful search might reveal a bit more online sources. For sure, there are sources not available online on this crossing as it seems to be tied to the town of Northfield's history. These bridges do appear to have much more information on them out there. It's just a matter of someone doing the research. Now all we need is to convince a few people that there are sources but the article just hasn't developed yet. --Polaron | Talk 20:46, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

You might try something like:

FYI - the "White Bridge" appears to be the shorter/smaller connecting bridge over the "canal".

The "White Bridge" is the shorter one, built after its predicessor was damaged or destroyed by the 1936 flood. The 1947 bridge is longer and in much worse condition. Thanks!! - Denimadept (talk) 14:58, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Agree with your Canalside rail bridge update, I was misread the text in the article regarding the Warren and Whipple truss spans (which were original and which were replacements) when I counted them in the picture to clarify which were rebuilt or replaced as a result of the 1936 flood. GIS and Wiki

I am sorry that several crossings of the Connecticut River did not survive AFD. My personal interest is in getting otherwise difficult to find GIS or GIS-like information out to people in the form of Wiki tables or vector map layers (the Location map+,map~ and BS route map templates). Wiki has developed some nice tools in the general area. Personally I feel that there should be an option of either consolidation or moving content rather than deletion. After an AFD, is it possible to request a temporary restore so that content which was otherwise deleted can be added to other relevant articles? LeheckaG (talk) 15:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Honestly, I don't see an alternate site other than Structurae, and that's kinda difficult for just anyone to edit. We could create a new wiki with a similar aim which is NOT an encyclopedia and which is more useful. This wiki would include transient data including current (re)construction info as well as the basic statistics and history. It would specifically be aimed at ALL crossings, structures, whatever, past, current, and future, as well as proposed projects. What do you figure? date autoformatting

Hi, you said at Macintosh talk that you didn't understand the issue: it's just the turning of all those square-bracketed dates (blue in display) into plain text: only Wikipedians who've chosen a date preference and logged in see their chosen format anyway. OK, so for the purposes of the survey of users' attitudes, do you feel positive, negative, or uncommitted about the proposal to free the article of date autoformatting? I happen to have comparisons handy from a Featured List. You may wish to compare the previous autoformatted version with the cleaned-up version. Zakim Bridge

As a life-long resident of Massachusetts whose grandfather personally knew the Yawkeys (Have you not heard of them?), whose mother was at game 5 in 1975 (Have you not heard of that one?) and game 2 in 2004 (Have you not heard who one that one?) and who personally has been to at least one Yankees-Red Sox (Have you not heard of that rivalry?) game for the past ten years, I can categorically say that there is absolutely no pertinence to the Bill Buckner reference. The bridge wasn't even under construction in 1986, and the man has no relationship to it.

Have you not heard of WP:Trivia?

BTW, take a look at the image of the dedication plaque. Have you not heard seen who took it?

Please see the conclusion reached by Quiddity in response to the discussion at WP:VPR sparked by this debate. I defer to you regarding his suggestion that the infobox at Ponte Vecchio be removed entirely until resolution of the conflict. I have archived the discussion at MoS. The experiment at Ponte Vecchio will continue and no further discussion about a blanket statement against hiding infoboxes appears necessary. The discourse bore fruit in that major concerns about functionality and innovation were aired and a cooperative atmosphere prevailed. integra/rsx

I welcome your edits on the integra/rsx article, but obviously I disagree with you. instead of starting some silly edit war, I thought it would be a good idea to explain why I moved the article and see what your opinion is.

I based my edits on the fact that cars such as the Honda NSX have articles refering to them using the original name, not the Acura brand. A car such as the Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza has the name Lexus IS due to the fact that after Toyota Japan stopped using the Altezza name, they started using the Lexus name in Japan.

If the car was only called an Integra in Japan, I might agree with you - but the name RSX is only used in US, Canada and Hong Kong - the rest of the world uses the name Integra.

SPAM

My edits to the Monty Python spam article were based in the Wikipedia article on Spam. Could you explain why my edit seems to be not only wrong, but specifically "vandalism"? The term spam didn't directly become in use as a reference on Monty Python, but as a reference to internet forum users filling forums with the word "spam" (inspired by Monty Python). My source is the Wikipedia article on internet spam. Please explain why you reverted my edit.

Eh, technically any act of vandalism could be a "difference of opinion" if the vandal thinks what he's doing is right... ;) Still, as I explained to Rubywine, it's not just the way they removed it, but how they did it. They seemed to be making a point and to me that looked like vandalism. I didn't leave them a canned vandalism warning either, but explained why I did what I did. But I could have been wrong too. List of crossings of the Ohio River

Dear sir, I would say that my edit was in fact constructive. For the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, to which I added the fact that it is very commonly referred to as the "Big Mac Bridge". As explained in its own article and can be seen in this local newspaper article: http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2001/05/15/loc_big_mac_bridge.html. All of which could have been found by a cursory search or either Wikipedia or Google. If your comments dealt with the formatting or appropriateness of the info for that particular article. Then please also adjust the info for Newport Southbank Bridge (The Purple People Bridge), which can be found directly above the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge. Or the other bridges listed with their nicknames. It was from these that I stole the formatting and the justification. I would prefer that before labeling someone with the id of vandal that you at least pay some heed to the context of their edit. It is rather off putting to be called a vandal when making such a simple edit and to my mind obvious edit. You are quite correct that the Mackinac Bridge is called "the Big Mac", a bridge a I have crossed many times in the last year in fact, but if you read the article from the Cincinnati Newspaper you will clearly see the the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge is also refered to as the "the Big Mac". In fact if you simply Google "Big Mac Bridge" http://www.google.com/search?q=%22big+mac+bridge%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a you will see that of the first ten links listed two are for the Mackinac and eight are for Dan Beard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.86.205 (talk) 01:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
