Clarence Thomas page[edit]

Hi. If you get a second, would you mind stopping by the Clarence Thomas Talk page? I'm in a dispute with a user over whether the fact that Thomas performed, at his home, Rush Limbaugh's third wedding should be mentioned in the article. I think it should. The other user does not. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Eleemosynary 02:45, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right and I was wrong[edit]

I was jumping around between the main page and the cat-"adopting" page. I should have added the category to the main page in the first place. I was wrong and I admit it. Thank you for reminding me of my error so that I will know to check my work on Senator Frist's page once more time. I am a bit under duress because I am dealing with a non-communicative reverter. -- Pinktulip 00:44, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yo[edit]

graduating in 4 weeks, but I'll be around until june. you coming by my area anytime soon? --kizzle 01:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

Derek, thanks for the kind welcome; I assumed that sockpuppet was a generic (and funny) slur, thanks for setting me straight.

(Metamessage: I'm guessing that this is how I send a message back to you (the edit-everything paradigm takes a while to get used to...). If not, sorry.)

Please don't leave on account of a POV warrior. We need as many sensible people as we can get. Gamaliel 04:37, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly what I was going to say. Every day I fix stuff, and every day I find more stuff that needs to be fixed. If you get too frustrated, consider that Rex is gone. JamesMLane t c 09:06, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By "sensible" I presume you mean the same POV as you have? I like to think I bring NPOV where there was none before. Please AGF. I am no more of a "POV warrior" than Gamaliel. In fact I think I am quite a bit less of one.--Tbeatty 01:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Derek I hope you stay. Because you have challenged the aricle on Weiner, I have started a more general article on the DSCC Credit Report Scandal. I think that is a more appropriate place. --Tbeatty 01:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for coming back. I agree with your comment except I think it deserves it's own article on the incident rather than have Michael Steele's bio saddled with the controversy and details. THings like this tend to swamp bio's and it's not fair to either Steele or Weiner to dominate their life over incidents like this. --Tbeatty 02:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the drama. Meant it fully at the time. But, will simply continue with my break instead. Tbeatty, thanks for coming around. I probably should have discussed with you before listing. Though I thought the incident did not merit its own article, I was more upset about having it listed under that girl's name. She's just a kid who did a dumb thing; it's wasn't some grand conspiracy. And, as you say, it's not fair at a human level to create an encyclopedia article about her over this. Derex 02:10, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for commenting on my recent request for bureaucratship. I deeply appreciate the comments and feedback that you left me. I hope that I can improve and gain your support in the future. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:18, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Hi Derex. Just a quick note to thank you for your support in my RfA, which recently passed 62/13/6. I will do my very best live up to this new responsibility and to serve the community, but please let me know if I make any mistakes or if you have any feedback at all on my actions. Finally, if there is anything that I can assist you with - please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers TigerShark 03:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the "aye"[edit]

Hi Derex- thanks a lot for your support on my recent, (barely) successful rfa. Please feel free to leave me any comments or criticisms on my talk page! The beer was delicious. --He:ah? 22:52, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what's up man[edit]

are you coming around my way anytime soon?--kizzle 02:01, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A mess[edit]

Did you see this?[1] No need to comment, but it is disheartening to say the least. Hope all is well with you.--MONGO 06:58, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hunting with Cheney? Not a bad suggestion:) How does a guy from Wyoming shoot so badly I wonder? Anyway, I do remember your old name, so I guess I must be one of the old timers by now!--MONGO 07:19, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicted?[edit]

Sorry, wolfie! Hey, you still have that beard? :) Glad you're back and you didn't let the tide of naysayers and apologists get you down. -- User:RyanFreisling @ 18:31, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As BD said, I'm "excitable" ;) Ya, I'm back.
Shaved down, cleaned up, wore a tie, and put on shoes to score a job at a very proper school last month. But, I keep reverting to my primal lupine core, including the beard. The dean's gonna be a bit shocked to see the joker they actually hired, instead of my Derex doppelganger. Either a beast at heart, or a naturalized Berkeley hippie, I guess. Derex 18:42, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good stuff. Always had a few soft spots for the Birkenstocks crowd. Congrats on the new gig and I'm glad you're here. It's just gonna get wilder around here now that the Pentagon has declared war on the internet. -- User:RyanFreisling @ 18:55, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's spelled internets with an s, ryan, you should know that. and congrats on the new job man, ya i'll be around in may, i graduated but still working with the prof on the project. geezus my head hurts, in the last week i've gone through 250 articles on lexis and made notes, probably going to put up a lot of what i've learned here, though it would involve basically scrapping the entire ohio page and kb's a little protective... i will admit i'm a little jealous of you seeing as you'll be in a country far far away from bush. ah well, another kindred spirit leaves to make it harder for the rest of us ;) --kizzle 06:47, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Thanks for your vote.

Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! Matt Yeager (Talk?) 01:56, 11 April 2006 (UTC)][reply]

Your edit of my comment, etc.[edit]

Am I mistaken, or did you edit my talk page comment here? I'm not sure, but as far as I've been able to find out, editing another's talk page comments is a no-no. Also, this edit looks to me like user name fraud and this edit was hurtful to me and triggered a break in my rapport with Ryan. My feelings are hurt by these edits. I think you should apologize to me. Merecat 04:14, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My humblest apologies. Derex 04:38, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kinky little vixen, eh? Got to respect that. Derex 04:47, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I have absolutely no recollection of leaving that comment; please ignore, the likelihood that it was made while altered is very high. =) · Katefan0(scribble)/poll 05:35, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I thought it was pretty damn funny. Maybe you ought to take credit ;) Derex 06:50, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Darth Cheney[edit]

Would he take Osama duck hunting? He would then get my vote. Looks like ole Runsfeld has lots of friends amoung recently retired higher level military Brass...but he'll weather the storm...that guy is rather unflappable...But Bushy is with us till 2009...I only fear we may end up with someon even worse...and regardless of how much you may dislike him, there are worse potentials and a few of them in both parties are electable...for a Republican victory, their best choice is Rudy Giuliani...I think Hillary has a fair chance , but I am sick of Bushes and Clintons...new blood I say!--MONGO 05:30, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New blood, indeed. And let's hope some of it is Osama's on the ground (the Flight 93 transcripts this week really shook me). I think both Rudy and Hillary would have big problems , though you probably called it right on the nominations. Hillary's already been labeled very negatively, and that's hard to change. Rudy had a very public affair as mayor, and that will go over extremely poorly in the South when the mud starts flying. McCain is in a tough spot too. He's cozying up to Bush to soothe the primary voters, but losing his maverick appeal for the general election by that.
The Republicans need a governor I think, someone distant from both the Bush crew and Congress. For the Dem's, I actually think Wes Clark could win. He's got what it takes: unquestionable defense credentials, distant from Washington, smart as hell, strong leadership, and takes shit from no one (a rare quality in a Dem). But I haven't a clue what his policies would be, so I don't know if I'd vote for him. Probably would get eaten alive in Washington though, unless he brought in a bunch of old hands from the Clinton team. Derex 06:48, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lightdarkness' RfA[edit]

Just to let you know, you changed your vote to support but you didn't move it there ;)--Shanel 16:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Many thanks for your support of my recent RFA, which passed narrowly. Seriously, on a personal level I was a bit moved to see you in my corner, and I hope I will continue to be worthy of your respect as an editor. (And of your crushing scorn from an ideological standpoint).  ;) Regards, Kaisershatner 20:53, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have little doubt that you will continue to merit both :-) Derex 23:26, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I rather disagree. Every single change in that last edit is a POV modification. "Adultery" to "alleged affairs". "Floating about" to "released by the political opposition". The aside about Jones. Sex life to private life. Passive "would become" to "was made the focus". Adding "illegally". Changing "oral sex" (which it was) to "consensual relationship" (which it also was, of course). Take a look at all the changes this editor has been making; massive POVification on every level. (Mind you, I actually agree with where he's coming from; but we don't get to do that here.) --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:53, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Expertise[edit]

Thanks for introducing yourself. There is no such list of editors (though I have one of around 20 in my head). I think I'd be a great idea to start such a directory, possibily linking it to projects related to Wikipedia:Forum for encyclopedic standards. 172 | Talk 20:27, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

partial list

Nice work. I went ahead and added a few. I suggest eventually posting the page somewhere in the Wikipedia namespace. We can work on compiling a fuller list, and then categorize, alphabetize, etc. the names. 172 | Talk 01:13, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack warning[edit]

Regarding this edit of yours: Please be advised that I interpret that as a personal attack and I ask that you desist from such comments in the future. Thank you. Merecat 23:25, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You interpret that as an attack? Pish posh. You've got some mighty thin skin there, mate. Derex 23:26, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm an idiot, you're an idiot, she's and idiot, he's an idiot...wouldn't you like to be an idiot too? As I sip my diet Dr. Pepper. Play nice.--MONGO 19:08, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Continued trouble with rjensen[edit]

I really don't know what's with this guy or his buddy Adam. People repeatedly suggest that the diction on the FDR page lacks NPOV, and suggest alternatives, but they both immediately remove such edits, and rjensen has a habit of removing the NPOV tag itself--in less than 24 hours. It strikes me that, much like government-owned public property, Wikipedia's form of "public" property cannot stand the fight of the 97% of us against the 3% of vandals and those who insist on wrestling control. Anyway, I just want to thank you for opposing his tactics. I wish more people stood up to him/them. What's the frequency, Kenneth? 01:47, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request to reopen Rex071404 (talk · contribs) RfAr #4[edit]

In light of recent sockpuppeting by Rex071404 (talk · contribs) a/k/a/ Merecat (talk · contribs) to violate the permanent ban on his editing of John Kerry, I've requested the fourth and most recent 'Rex' RfAr be reopened and if appropriate, the remedies re-defined and re-applied.
