Welcome![edit]

Hello, DerfTang, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you start/keep editing:

  • We're here to build an encyclopedia, but you probably knew that already. Still, it's important.
  • Be nice to other users. It's a lot easier to get along people when you're nice and when they're nice.
  • Don't worry too much about the rules. The only things that will get you immediately blocked from editing are clearly disruptive, so go, be bold, make changes, and have a blast.
  • You'll probably see other users using jargon like WP:CIVIL or WP:V (sometimes without the WP: at the beginning). If you want to know what these are, type them into the search bar at the top of every page and hit enter.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. Please remember to sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this way we know who says what, and when, in discussions. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! lifebaka++ 19:06, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

d== Help re. Magic: The Gathering ==

{{help me}}Thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it. I was wondering what was wrong with the expanded explanation I added to the Magic: The Gathering page. After saving, I went back in to add citations, but found that it had been already reverted. Was lack of sources the cause? Sorry for the trouble, and thanks in advance.DerfTang (talk) 20:19, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum - Going back to reread the editing tutorial, I just realized I hadn't included anything in the Edit Summary. Was that the issue?

Hi there, and welcome from me too.

When you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured to the right.

The problem with your edit was not the lack of edit-summary. You should always use one - but that wasn't the concern.

If you go to the page, Magic: The Gathering , and click on the "History" tab, you will get this screen - where you can see your own edit, and another more recent edit, at the top, where your changes were removed.

It says;

19:07, 30 March 2011 Lifebaka (talk · contribs) (74,493 bytes) (→Secondary market: rm new paragraph, these sorts of qualitative statements need sources, which are not provided; change to last sentence of previous paragraph is good)

Hopefully, the reason that the user put there will make sense.

Wikipedia does not permit original research, and all facts should be verifiable - with reliable sources (such as newspapers, books, etc).

You can discuss it in two places;

  • To speak directly to that specific user, go to their user talk page - that is, User talk:Lifebaka - create a new section at the end of the page, and ask them (politely, of course) to clarify, explain, or whatever you like. (Remember to ~~~~sign!)
  • To discuss more generally, about the article, you should start a new section on the article talk page - which is Talk:Magic: The Gathering - again, you'd create a new section at the end of the page, and simply say what you think should change, and why. Then wait a while, and hope others respond.

I hope that helps. If you need further help, please use another {{helpme}}. Best,  Chzz  ►  20:45, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
