hi. thanks for any help on learning about being a new user/author. yeah. new non-user i should say. i tend to avoid the shift key, except for in article writing. have not done this long. working on either messing up or improving General Hershy Bar. maybe a little of both. been reading essays and articles and faqs. so far so good. General Hershy Bar[edit]

Been working on General Hershy Bar's page. I knew him from seeing him on the streets of hollywood for about 4 years, 1979-83. I took his picture often. I posted one here (on the commons) , realized his page was thin, and wanted to add to it. So I have been. Right now, have some good refs for his NYC calypso period, but not much on why/when he left and how his other life changes happened.

I'd love some help. He was a cool guy. Not sure I have a conflict, but I did like and respect him. In the process I have been finding out things I have added to music and dance pages. or will add. Diatom.phage (talk) 01:27, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Not sure if you have been properly welcomed, so I just wanted say it's nice to have you aboard. Wiki can sometimes be a lonely place, which is a problem I've seen with new editors. Anyways, if you need any assistance I'd be happy to do my best to help or direct you to someone more capable. I, for the most part, work on 1960s music-related articles, so that is my expertise. But any structural questions ( music infoboxes, format, etc.) I can confidently give you an answer to as well. Again, glad to have you here!TheGracefulSlick (talk) 20:44, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: Draft:Elizabeth Goodfellow (musician) has a new comment[edit]

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Elizabeth Goodfellow (musician). Thanks! Robert McClenon (talk) 20:32, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Kylie Tastic!
I had more refs and was gonna add them and have the community add them once it was accepted.
Goodfellow is significant. I will document it and thicken it all up and resubmit. Also I sucked at format. That needs tonz. Plus it needs the disambiguity thingy. easy. so, maybe not ready for primetime. but really i think more than some articles. but arguments off the bottom are lame I know.
I decided to create pages for musicians that dont have pages. I know of about 20 great living people who could use a page. Nothing giant. Like Goodfellow for example has been drummer on like 100 peoples works, been in movies, tons of youtube solo and with famous people, and has helped start the careers of many. Having entries for these allows a fan like me a way to jump around using links from artist to artist. i think it makes discovery more possible and easy.
So, off I go to edit this up.
Thanks for your application of logical criteria to this process.
Go team. Diatom.phage (talk) 23:54, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at Wikipedia:Notability (music) and to me Elizabeth Goodfellow "meets at least one" of the criteria for notability. I failed to add them all to the initial article, but will....here they are for reference as I work on it....

My analysis-
Shows she played on Iron and Wine (notable artist on wiki, his other band members have at least two other notables) and was on his new album and is touring with him. Also Pitchfork is a notable significant publication. This meets criteria 1, 4, and 6 for notability and inclusion.

“Since starting her professional career at the age of seventeen in the
U.S. Air Force Band of the West Coast, Goodfellow has played with the
Emily Anne Band and jazz trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg. She’s also
a member of the rock group We Are the West. As she gets set to release
a debut solo record this February 23, MD asks what advice she’d offer
up-and-coming drummers considering her blooming career”
My analysis-
This shows she is playing in Iron and Wine (In wikipedia and notable), is in a major publication, and has also played with Bria Skonberg (in wikipedia and notable). Again meeting criteria 1,4, and 6.

My analysis-
Some good collaborations with notables are described here (eg Calexico - notable on wiki).

"Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst confirmed the formation of their new project Better Oblivion Community Center. The duo released their self-titled debut album and held their first live performance on last night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Released by Dead Oceans, Better Oblivion Community Center features Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner on two songs and drummer Carla Azar on five of the 10 tracks. Dawes bassist Wylie Gelber and drummer Griffin Goldsmith appear on the other five songs. Additional contributors include Christian Lee Hutson on guitar and Anna Butterss on bass. Bridgers played baritone guitar and shared vocals with Oberst who also played piano.
Better Oblivion Community Center’s debut live performance occurred on last night’s Late Show. Backed by a touring band composed of Hutson, bassist Emily Retsas and drummer Elizabeth Goodfellow, Bridgers and Oberst were also joined by Zinner on the single “Dylan Thomas.”
My analysis-
This shows Goodfellow appearing on Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst (both on wiki and notable) new project Better Oblivion Community Center, where she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert doing Dylan Thomas the single. Also she appears with Anna Butterss (notable on wiki). Meeting several criteria for notable (publication, other notables in band, appearing on network TV in band).

“Since moving to LA, she has released two albums of her original music (Silly Sun, 2018 and Sea Ranch, 2019), recorded with artists including boygenius (Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus), and toured with Iron & Wine and Madison Cunningham.”
“The past couple years have been busy! I spent two years on the road drumming for Iron and Wine (Beast Epic, Weed Garden tours) and am currently drumming for Madison Cunningham (Who Are You Now? Tour). I also toured with the Hot Sardines (hot jazz, NYC) this summer performing at Blue Note jazz clubs in China, Japan, and Hawaii.”
My analysis-
This is a notable publication citing that she has recorded and played with boy genius (notable), and toured with Madison Cunningham (notable) and Iron and Wine (notable).
there are more... Diatom.phage (talk) 02:17, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just a quick note as I'm at work but don't worry hugely about the formatting. The main point of a review is to check that notability is shown. It just needs references to show they meet Wikipedia:Notability (music) and/or just WP:NBASIC. Also as a new user if you have problems do ask for help/advice at the Wikipedia:Teahouse (see invite below). Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 08:41, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
