Ja'alin tribe and Shaigiya tribe

About an hour after you blocked 38.242.163.236 (talk · contribs) and restored sourced content on Ja'alin tribe (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), a day-old account restored the same content that 38.242.163.236 had been adding; though now with a source. The anon geolocates to UK and the new account's user page states he is in the UK. The edit summary is quite similar. Do you think I should open a sock investigation? Removal of CDM Smith history?

Hello Discospinster. Wondering why you deleted a majority of the first paragraph of our history. That paragraph has been in place for several years without issue. Thanks. Shepardde (talk) 17:49, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Those paragraphs were not supported by third-party sources, only the company's own webpage. That is not considered a reliable source for these types of claims. ... discospinster talk 17:53, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. So I see some brands do cite their own company webpage. Can you advise on when that is acceptable? The paragraph you deleted had been in place for several years with any editor feedback, so just curious why now and what had changed. Thanks.Shepardde (talk) 17:20, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

I can't speak for other editors. Citing a subject's own webpage would fall under WP:ABOUTSELF, which gives guidelines on when they could or couldn't be used. If it's citing a fact such as when the company was founded or how many employees they have, it would be OK. If the use is primarily "self-serving" (about all the wonderful things they did such as donating money and helping with relief efforts) then it would need a reliable independent source. ... discospinster talk 23:51, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Discospinster,

We typically draftify newly created articles, not 11 year-old main space articles. I was just handling some broken redirects that occurred because this article was moved to Draft space and I was surprised to see such a long-standing article moved out of main space where it had existed for so long. Just thought I'd inquire about it.

Hope your summer is going well. Liz Read! Talk! 22:04, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

You moved Raiffeisenbank (Bulgaria), which had been in mainspace since 2011, to draftspace. Per Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 172#Proposal to ban draftifying articles more than 90 days old without consensus, you aren't supposed to do that. * Pppery * it has begun... 13:56, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

removed images

Hi, you removed a number of images that I own myself and uploaded myself. I have donated these images to Creative Commons. Please reinstate. I added a note a the bottom of the sourced webpage confirming that the images are Creative Commons. Jgavant (talk) 19:59, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

I see that you have now added that statement, but you have to be more specific. Creative Commons has a number of licenses, the one that is compatible with Wikipedia is Attribution-Share Alike, which means that the images could be used by others for any purpose, including commerical purposes. I just want you to be aware of that. ... discospinster talk 20:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks, that is still fine with me. Should I add to my website that all images are "Attribution-Share Alike"? Will you then be able to reinstate all of them? Jgavant (talk) 20:41, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes, if you add that to the source website, the images can be used here. ... discospinster talk 20:43, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Thanks very much for clarifying all of this. I have gone ahead and made the statement on the website "All images on this site are Creative Commons (Attribution-Share Alike) - feel free to use and enjoy" If you can please reinsate all 5 (I believe it was) instances, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks! Jgavant (talk) 20:47, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. InvadingInvader (talk) 01:05, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

I don't understand, on the english Wikipedia: if I write articles about mathematicians - nobody cares. If I edit articles in math or physics - the same. I am mostly active on the German Wikipedia (writing math and physics stuff). Now I have a created an article for the Ukrainian group "Made in Ukraine" (which clearly exists) and you made that it is not visible for the public.

I told you, that there are very few sources and I also don't understand Ukrainian that well. So I deleted a lot of stuff, but now it is still in "Limbo". It makes for me a really bad impression! Especially during the war! And if you think I am not serious, watch my German page, I wrote more than 60+ articles in math and physics. --Tensorproduct (talk) 23:05, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks then for the help. I still feel kind of "deceived", since I share my math and physics knowledge for free and in both fields administrators are not deleting when there is no source. But thanks! It showed me again that people don't respect my work. --Tensorproduct (talk) 23:23, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
@Discospinster: I am going to never edit again any math or physics article in the english Wikipedia page. Last contribution that I made and I think was important was for Surgery theory. Only German Wikipedia from now on! --Tensorproduct (talk) 23:30, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

Hellraiser 2022

Hi there. I’ve been trying to update the cast list (which is very short) but the used Maxbmogs keeps deleting my cast edit. The first few times without a warning. I thhe sent him a text saying “hey just letting your know thwt cast member is missing and they the film is coming out”, but he simply deleted it again saying there was no proof that I was a part the of the cast. I cited IMDb. Then he said that was not enojgh, then I let him know that I’m citied in the credits of the film and offered to send him my contract. He then then undid my edit without a warning again…. Then I asked him what the issue was, then he responded that “nobody cared”. Wikipedia is supposed to be a public resource of data. Why does one single editor decide what is and what is not relevant for all the readers of world? Btw im cited on all other films I’ve worked on without a problem.

Please let me know your thoughts.. NikolaLA9 (talk) 05:19, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

The cast mentioned in film articles are generally the major characters. Wikipedia is not IMDB and does not tend to list everybody associated with a production. See MOS:FILMCAST:

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, so it is encouraged to name the most relevant actors and roles with the most appropriate rule of thumb for the given film: billing, speaking roles, named roles, cast lists in reliable sources, blue links (in some cases), etc.

That's why IMDB is linked in the article, so that readers who want to see who all was involved can do so. ... discospinster talk 22:33, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Cascade Caverns

How do I reach the owner of the Cascade Caverns page (DLS Texas?)? Sometime between 2018 and 2022, somebody obviously and mischievously posted that information about Dario Acevedo in an attempt to hurt our reputation (it looks like an anonymous post). Before the other administrator edited it down, that post was filled with spelling errors and erroneous information ("multiple murders, strippers. etc."). The remaining two lines are accurate but serve no constructive purpose (I became the new owner in 2009 and the former owners are all dead). I fear this is going to happen again. I'd like to alert the owner if I could. We are focused on archaeology, biology and geology, not sensational headlines. Cascade1wiki (talk) 22:02, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Undoing edits - keeping bias text. Accident or intentional?

Why are you undoing edits to a clearly biased text on the germ theory denial page? Whoever wrote that text clearly has an opinion and is pushing it on readers - that's not impartial. Personally im fine with opposition. Im not really fine with essentially a censorship of speech - where one persons bias is allowed and another isn't - although in this case I've made no attempt to write opposing bias - rather keep the text impartial and yet you delete my edits and lower this device's ip address status on Wikipedia. I'm just wondering are you doing this blindly or intentionally? Who is Atlantis entertainment and why does the link not lead anywhere? 82.132.212.77 (talk) 15:37, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Perisistent disruptive editing

A certain set of users (Dmytro91, Lute88 and others, plus a number of anonymous IPs) have been editing articles on Ukrainian musicians, as well as the places linked to them, without care for norms and without addressing issues pointed out to them by other users (me included). They have also resorted to labelling any dissent as "Russian propaganda" that "we in the West do not tolerate", which is perhaps even more annoying. I am assuming that they are Ukrainian and while I can sympathise with their predicament their incessant vandalism is contrary to the purpose of this encyclopedia, and their borderline abusive behaviour is hard to tolerate (and gives me second hand embarrassment). Reverted edits: Legality of incest

I tried to fix a problem in the article that I pointed out in the talk section about a month ago. Could you address it?

We cannot say that something "seems to be legal because it is not expressly forbidden" as that would be original research. If a legal scholar has pointed it out then we could cite that, but it's not possible to say otherwise. ... discospinster talk 20:35, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

I think that's sort of the problem I was trying to fix. Isn't it worse in the original version where just affirms it? I mean, look at the source.

I'm not familiar with Argentine criminal law, is incest specifically addressed? ... discospinster talk 20:57, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

AFAIK, no, except for marriage and sexual abuse. Regardless, I couldn't find any reliable source addressing it, so we can only read the relevant sections of the penal code and conclude it's omitted, hence it isn't prohibited, hence it's legal(ish); which I guess it amounts to bad verifiability. TBH, I was going to delete everything said in the article about Argentina and call for updating the map; but I tried to take a middle ground with what it was already there.

Thanks..

Thanks for the revert, according to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mount_Marty_University&oldid=1109569313 Plus if only that 'user' noticed that there is already a Mount Mary University, but located in Wisconsin. jlog3000 (talk) 17:43, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

Although there are definitely issues here, I don't consider his statement (if this edit summary is the one you blocked him for) to be a legal threat. The "litigation issues" he mentioned I understood to be in reference to his criminal case in California. Uhai (talk · contribs) 23:15, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edit? I am new here and could use some feedback. ST3Ducatic (talk) 15:36, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Because the answer is a hoax and there are reliable sources that say so. If you want to claim that it is not, you have to provide reliable sources. ... discospinster talk 17:59, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

ST3Ducatic (talk) 22:37, 17 September 2022 (UTC) Thank you for the response. I have found numerous sources (NY Times, LA Times, photographers, and scientists) that all provide different explanations of how crop circles are created: hoaxers, artists, wind vortices, sunlight/shade, aircraft down draft, Ley Lines and associated electromagnetic forces, underground water currents, and things not of this earth (UFOs, UAPs, light orbs, aliens, ETs). The reliability of any one of these can and should be debated.

However I submit the scientific paper below that also references 9 other scientific papers: Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).https://www.researchgate.net/publication/280245462_An_Experimental_Study_for_Reproduction_of_Biological_Anomalies_Reported_in_the_Hoeven_1999_Crop_Circle_Eltjo_H_Haselhoff_Robert_J_Boerman_Jan-Willem_Bobbink_Journal_of_Scientific_Exploration_Vol_28_No#pf3

Please note that I am not endorsing any one these causes over the other, rather I find no definitive source that this is a "hoax by people". I respectfully request my edit that the cause is from an "unknown source" to stand and to delete the word "hoax" unless included in context with other proposed causes. ST3Ducatic (talk) 22:37, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

The source clearly calls it a hoax. References concerning crop circles in general do not have any relevance to the article in question. Please read WP:OR and WP:SYNTH. You appear to be trying to create a novel synthesis by bringing in these tangential references. Acroterion (talk) 22:45, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

The part about his nickname is true; its mentioned in an episode but how am I supposed to reference that? 180.150.36.25 (talk) 15:55, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

You would reference a third-party article that mentions it. ... discospinster talk 15:57, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

For that block on that repeating vandal editor. Seems to have problems with accepting whatever "Google" say as Truth but then they don't turn around and don't want to accept well-sourced information... Shearonink (talk) 00:09, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

The edit you just rolled back is not vandalism...

at the physics list page. It is this academic editor's attempt to edit constructively, and call WP to abide by its policies, WP:VERIFY in particular, which requires sourcing for content.

Besides disrupting this constructive edit with regard to policy violations, which are clear and rampant, you undid an hour's worth of citation chacking and completing. Please, look at the citations as you have returned them, versus what they were after my edit. Authors, pages, publishers, etc. were added, and many other mistakes and omissions corrected.

Finally, please do not think that every IP-only editor is a vandal. Many of us in academia still edit this way. No rollback, next stop is an admin. Policy violations of this article are clear. You dislike something small, fix it–don't revert just because you distrust anonymous editing. Jimmy Wales gave this to us in the opening days of Wikipedia.

Cheers. 2601:246:C700:FD:A031:B758:507:3925 (talk) 01:11, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
