Notes to participants etc[edit]

This is a somewhat WP:BOLD attempt to split off a subpage from Sutton and Mole Valley lines from Talk:Sutton and Mole Valley lines. It may or may not come to anything, and it may end up as a cut and paste to elsewhere, and if that happens small content additions may not be atttributed. (NB: I waive my rights to have and content cut/paste taken from this article prior to be attributed to me to help save any complications with WP:CWW ). This article could potentionally:

  • My merged with (likely abosrb) Chessingston branch line. (I'd likely mildly oppose this.
  • Encompass the Bookham line in a section as that is really too small to have its own section. I'm likely to mildly favour this but it would likely by controversial so that isn't on the table currently.
  • Encompass the line from Epsom to Horsham or Dorking.

Basically idea is to concentrate on Wimbledon-Epsom and see how it goes. I dabble at this from time to time over days, weeks or even months.Djm-leighpark (talk) 11:47, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that currently the article Chessington branch line covers a part of this line. When this article is completed it should be shortend to the section Motspur Park–Chessington. Nevertheless this split is definitely a good step. I am just wondering where the name Epsom line comes from.--PhiH (talk) 13:17, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed the suggested Epsom line came from Mattbuck on Talk:Sutton and Mole Valley lines. Epsom (L&SWR) line might be better. This line segment was in place well before the start of Motspur Park-Tolworth-Chessington which began construction in 1936 with the extension Chessington-Leatherhead never completed; so article if completed would likely have prior rights over Raynes Park to Motspur Park with the Chessington Branch really on starting from Motspur Park. (I'd personally be happy for Raynes Park to Effingham via Leatherhead (Incl Chessington) by the same article (Epsom-Leatherhead would be CFORK with another article and that section would be better covered primarily elsewhere). But that's likely controversial. In fact I'm probably better putting effort into article content rather than discussions here, and concentrating on the Raynes Park to Epsom segment (This is more a background to me).Djm-leighpark (talk) 14:02, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Having worked a bit of content into this Leatherhead railway station (history is good but not necessarily perfect) is complex and is difficult to ignore in this article without resulting creep towards Effingham Junction.Djm-leighpark (talk) 16:53, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Likely abandonment[edit]

In the process of developing this article I've become reasonably convinced I'm likely propose to move to a section covering Wimbledon, Epsom, Leatherhead and Effingham Junction. In essence this line was really always all the way through to Leatherhead in the first place, most of the changes at Leatherhead relate to this line and is way of bringing in the Bookham Branch. Inclusion of Epsom-Leatherhead in this article joins nicely to the existing Horsham, Dorking and Leatherhead Railway. The fact Phil had made live a Template:Raynes Park–Epsom line which is to be commended ...but ... it possibly points constrains development of the article. I note recently doing Cork and Youghal Railway the routemap was developed in the draft and thats the approach which would seem better here.Djm-leighpark (talk) 13:30, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
