Thank you. I am always fine but even a bit more since one of the innovations I worked on recent years, has been scouted by Kic InnoEnergy (EIT, EU) which means substantial support in the development.. Hope you do well too.. I don't mind about technical improvements in the article. I do bother interference in the style. Style doesn't exclude neutrality. But every subject requires it's own approach, also in style. At the start I have chosen to ask an American writer to 'translate' my "English" (not my native tongue) into American' English. All the corrections I made since then might regretfully have faded this a bit. Anyhow, I am not pleased at all with the obvious text corrections by an editor or editors who seem to have little or no affection (knowledge is not so important) with the subject, contemporary art. I will redraft the article but then I don't want any more interventions in the style même pas as collateral damage in consequence of 'technical corrections'. I want for this article a fresh and coherent style. Language is the vehicle we drive with over our globe but it may have gramarye (the trunk of both grammar and glamour). So how to keep the so-called wiki editor technicians out of the article's style?? Donald.louw 00:11, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

3 February 2014[edit]

First things first - Long time since we've dealt with each other, so hope you're well....
I've had a quick look through the edits to the article you were on about. I can't see anything obviously wrong. From what I can see, the user has moved bits that were in the wrong line on the infobox, fixed or tweeked minor grammar issues, added alternative text to the pictures (Alt-Text is the description for blind/partially sighted people), and reformatted the subheadings.

The "copy editing" process is not perfect; they are only working with what they can see and do not refer to the original sources which are quoted in the article. I know from experience with articles about monasteries I have created, that when they copy edit and try and "fix" bits, they often inadvertently change the meaning and introduce factual errors or things which do not corroborate with the original sources to which the article is referenced and which I had created the article from.
So I can't see anything obviously "wrong"; but understand there may be such accidental issues there. What was it that you disliked about the edits? If you're a bit more specific I may be able to help.

19 March 2013[edit]

Your article looks very thorough - more so than probably most other wikipedia articles - and it reads well.
The only thing I would perhaps suggest editing is the opening introduction; it currently reads:
PINK de Thierry (1943) is a Dutch visual artist whose work includes Meta-Performance art, Conceptual art, Site-specific art and Mixed media art.

The introduction is very functional, but I think it could be expanded. It doesn't need to be very long; 2, 3 lines at the most. Perhaps mentioning anything she is famous or well known for.
Just as a simple example for a second line could be (with just some made up facts as I'm not the expert): PINK's work has been exhibited in (a famous gallery/widely in public spaces across Belgium, for example); PINK is most well known for her (name of a piece of art work).

As I say there's nothing wrong with the introduction as it is, it's just beneficial to add a bit of context or notoriety; draw the reader in and introduce them to the subject [PINK] (who they might not know anything about).

I've rated the article as B currently; which means Readers are not left wanting.
It is actually the highest I (and normal editors) can rate it. Articles have to be nominated to reach higher grades as the A grades (Good Article Status and Featured Article Status) are for articles of Professional standard that cannot be improved in anyway.
Nominated articles are then reviewed by Specialist Editors who decide whether or not to award that status.

If you're happy with the article, take a look at the criteria pages and you're welcome to nominate yourself.

4 APRIL 2013[edit]

Hello again.
I've had a look into your questions about about language. Wikipedia doesn't have any specific rules so I will advise you to do what my University does: If the source (book, newspaper, article etc) is available in English, put the reference/citation in English; If it is not available in English, cite it in the language the source was originally written.

Your article reads well and I can't see anything that would need changing. Wikipedia articles are open to be edited by anyone; so you (or anyone else) can add or alter the information at any time if you need to add anything later.

I don't think it would have any problems achieving the good article statuses. I have nominated it for good article status. It is a high achievement in itself to gain that, but if it does, you will also be able to apply for featured article status which is the very highest level of achievement.

I've also awarded you a Barnstar for your work on your article; it appears on your User Page. Barnstars are Wikipedia's way of rewarding and recognising hard work and diligence; both of which you have obviously shown in writing your article.

Many Thanks

I would be more than willing to help you with your article.

The main issue with the article is with regards to the notability of the individual. Please see Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Creative_professionals. Your article is unusual amongst wikipedia pages as it only cites written sources and no online sources. The problem we have is that a search online doesn't bring up anything about the individual and thus we have to question the individual's notability.

Among other things the individual must meet the following criteria:

  • A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
  • The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
  • The person is a significant contributor to, a subject of, or used as an expert source by major news agencies or publications.
  • The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique.
  • The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
  • The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

Deciding whether something meets the criteria can be rather wishy washy at the best of times; some editors consider people notable that others might not. The problem I had with your article is that on first look the individual appears to meet the notability criteria, but I could not verify that. As I say, a google search brought back nothing. So simply by adding some independent, reliable and verifiable online sources that confirm this notability, the page should be able to be approved.

Also, the article doesn't quite fit the normal wikipedia formatting or style; that's not a huge problem,: I'll have a play with it and see what I can do. It's harder for editors to correct style and formatting as we're not expects on the actual individual concerned; so in the mean time if you wanted to look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style and see if you can improve it.

But as I say, it is the notability issue that is the main issue, and that is why it's yet to be approved. I'd be happy to put it through the review process again for you if you can rectify the notability issue.

Thanks

Rushton2010 (talk) 01:11, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

{{subst:PINK de Thierry}} Dear Rushton Thank you for your help. I will clear the notability issue. And follow your other instructions. Again, thanks, Donald Donald.louw 08:33, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Some background information might be useful. We start this Wikipage for PINK's use of performance art in the period 1980 - 1995 is on another level than the performance art where ever is it practiced up to now. Presently there is again a vivid debate about performance art worldwide. We prepare a book on PINK's performance works edited by Lorenzo Benedetti (the curator of the presentation in the Dutch pavilion for the coming Venice Art Biennale 2013). We think that PINK's work in 1980 - 1995 was so advanced at that time that the art world couldn't cope with it. And the web age wasn't grown-up yet. Some influential people in the art world now personally engage in launching PINK de Thierry art work.

Firts the performances, then the language works (Umberto Eco will write an introduction; it is another book) and then the other series of this coherent, advanced oeuvre. Hope you are still interested. Personally I think that the launch of this page will attract interest worldwide of the art world. I will continue working on the page. Hope to hear from you. Donald Donald.louw 22:57, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

I can understand that. Looking at the additions you've made, including the additional web source, I would say it meets all of wikipedia's criteria. If you're happy for me to do it, I would be happy to put it through the review process for you, and save it having to work it's way through the backlog (which is taking a few weeks currently). Rushton2010 (talk) 21:21, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would be delighted if you put this page through the review process. I will make more improvements and also more references as I have dug up more material in the archives. I was thinking to alter the reference list, putting the surname first (Harvard method)so that short references in the text self can be easily linked (i.e. Snoep 1988, p. 17) to the alphabetical reflist. What you think? I also have problems with altering 300 px files into 220 px files. How can I do that? I want to make more short references in the text. Is that wise?

Hello, Donald.louw. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you should consider our guidance on Conflicts of interest and take a look at the Plain and simple conflict of interest guide.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

File permission problem with File:Motion. First multidisciplinary art action of Mass Moving in a city center. Utrecht, 1969.tif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Motion. First multidisciplinary art action of Mass Moving in a city center. Utrecht, 1969.tif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Hello Donald. Let me clarify why I had to delete this image. Copyright in the European Union or Belgium for that matter does not require a specific notice like "all rights reserved" to apply. All works are automatically copyrighted to the creator. While the installation shown in this particular photo would be subject to freedom of panorama, the photograph itself is an original work and only the photographer themselves can waive their rights or grant a free license. So, the simple absence of a copyright notice in a publication does not transfer this photo to the public domain. De728631 (talk) 12:39, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination[edit]

I've removed your addition to WP:GAN, which temporarily disrupted the page. As that page states, you can find instructions on how to nominate an article at WP:GAN/I. WP:GAN should almost never be edited directly by users, as stated in the warning that appears when you click on the page to edit it:

"Attention! This page is automatically maintained by a bot. Updating this page is unnecessary.

To add or update a nomination, follow the GA nomination instructions.
To withdraw a nomination, remove the {{GA nominee}} template from the article talk page.
To fail a nomination or list it as GA, follow the GA reviewing instructions and replace the {{GA nominee}} template on the article talk page."

Hope this helps. Good luck with your nomination. -- Khazar2 (talk) 22:00, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:''Motion'', Utrecht 1969. First art intervention by Mass Moving in a city centre.tif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. Your GA nomination of PINK de Thierry[edit]

The article PINK de Thierry you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:PINK de Thierry for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Granted, you have improved the article a lot since the first nomination. However, Quadell brought up some pretty good points on Talk:PINK de Thierry/GA2 where the article needs improvement. Epicgenius (talk) 00:10, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your email, what you need to do is listed further up this page. It looks like OTRS never received a Wikipedia-compatible license (CC-BY-SA, GFDL or Free Art license) from the copyright holder and I don't think this image meets the non-free content criteria; that's why the .jpg version was deleted earlier.
