Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:PDlifecycle.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Dark Falls talk 06:35, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial use of Image:Revisedtree.jpg[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Revisedtree.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Revisedtree.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Revisedtree.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 06:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: panspermia edits[edit]

See WP:CSD#I3: Wikipedia does not allow non-commercial use only or Wikipedia use only images. Copyrighted images are also not allowed at all when a reasonable free license equivalent could be created by a contributor. Simply put: you can't just steal diagrams from internet sites and use them in articles, all images have to be created by you or satisfy Wikipedia non-free content criteria. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 07:20, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You must get permission from the author of the study to relicense these images under a free license (like the {{GFDL}} or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}) and forward this permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. A free license is one that allows for modification or redistribution, even commercial publication, so the author of the study must be aware of the change in copyright. Let me know if you need any help. Cheers, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 07:32, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you could create a new rendering of the tree of life or the data, you could use those images in the article. I realize that the set of data was not collected by you, but you can't really place a copyright on data, and as long as you properly cite the study you would be in the clear. E-mailing the study's author was prudent, but it really doesn't provide Wikipedia with any documentation. Anyway, if you create the free alternatives it would allay all of my copyright concerns. Thanks, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 21:19, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, if the graph is unique, you retain copyright. You might want to check in with Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems just in case. BTW, I've put out a notice for other editors to review your recent additions. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 01:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proto-Domain[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Proto-Domain, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Oli Filth 23:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation at Red rain in Kerala[edit]

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Red rain in Kerala. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Proposed deletion of Proto-domain[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Proto-domain, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Dab page; none of whose targets mention the term "proto-domain".

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

I have nominated Proto-domain, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Proto-domain. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Oli Filth(talk|contribs) 22:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
