September 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, Dragonsnowballcat, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 20:26, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your explanation. I am new to this process and I think I just jumped the gun and tried to comment before fully understanding how it worked. I did arrive so I could express my opinion and vote on a particular topic, but I am now familiarizing myself with your policies and procedures and request that you please lift the ban. I won't make the same mistake again. 😄 Thank you. Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 07:01, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I had to request that the deletion discussion be locked for new users (not just you) due to violations of our policy on canvassing for votes. Fortunately, there's plenty to do on Wikipedia other than that one discussion, and 95% of our articles are open to editing by new users. You can even try to improve the Fireal article, as long as you understand that it might wind up getting deleted. If there's anything I can help you with, getting started on Wikipedia, please let me know, either here or at my talk page. There's also the Teahouse, where other experienced users can answer questions. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 07:28, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, thanks! Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 08:45, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I did have a question. In the AfD discussion, there was a link posted to an article that would help attest to the general notability of the band in question but it was stricken. Does this violate Wikipedia policy in some way? Can that reference be added to the main article in question to help improve its citations? Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 16:14, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's within Wikipedia policy to strike disruptive content, which includes canvassed votes at an AfD (even if the individual editors aren't trying to do anything wrong). (Also, the strikethrough—which was my doing—is kind of just a suggestion; it will be up to the closing admin which comments to listen to and which to ignore.) If you're referring to this Blabbermouth piece, I think it would be fine to cite that in the article to establish the names of some of the members; I'm not sure there's much else in there it could be cited for. (Also, that link appears to be a mirror; you would probably want this one.) But like I said, beware, any work you do on that article might be for naught if it's deleted. And right now that looks like the way things are leaning. Maybe it would be more worth your while to work on the article of a similar band? We have tons of band articles in need of attention. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:19, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're saying but I won't be hurt if my work ends up being for naught. I'm just getting my feet wet with this page since this is what I care about at the moment. If you have a chance, could you please take a look at the edits I've made to the page yesterday and today? Thanks again, I really appreciate your help. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Dragonsnowballcat. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Fireal, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Bbb23 (talk) 18:50, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I will disclose that I am a fan of the band. However, Fireal is not me, my family, friend, client, employer, or anyone else I have an external relationship with. The edits I made were based on fan knowledge and all have verifiable sources. If I've done anything wrong here, I do apologize but I'm not collaborating with anyone or being paid, and I don't feel like my edits were promotional. I've read through all the Wikipedia guidelines and I don't see where it says you can't edit pages that you have a preexisting personal interest in, and that's all I'm really doing here. But again, if I have done something wrong, I apologize. Thanks for your help. Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 21:05, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Fireal did you no favours when he called on his fans to swamp the discussion. It's customary that !votes (aka, not-a-vote) at WP:AFD are phrased as Delete or Keep, not as No Delete. Cabayi (talk) 10:45, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My bad! I've changed it. Thanks for the information. You learn something new every day. Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 20:28, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Dragonsnowballcat. I wanted you to know that I've had the deleted article, Fireal, userfied to User:John Cline/Fireal. The entire editing history and article "in progress" is stored there for the purpose of continuing with updates and editing improvements until such time when it is ready to be moved back into the main article space. I specifically wanted to let you know that you are welcome to contribute edits to that page in efforts to the stated goal. Thank you.--John Cline (talk) 03:42, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • THANK YOU!! I have not had time until now to devote the proper attention to this, but I am ready to get started and I have lots of ideas. I'm still reading up on the whole userfication process and what I need to do to move this article forward. Any input or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. I will hopefully have a draft ready this week! Thanks again! Dragonsnowballcat (talk) 03:35, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
