The Surreal Barnstar
I award DrunkenSmurf the Surreal Barnstar for having a wicked awesome username. Yanksox 17:36, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DrunkenSmurf, thanks very much for your input in the AfD discussions regarding the above articles. One suggestion if I might. Please remember to sign all of your posts on talk pages. Typing four tildes after your comment ( ~~~~ ) will insert a signature showing your username and a date/time stamp, which is very helpful. Happy editing! Saryn Hooks[edit]

You participated in the Finola Hackett AfD. Please also join the discussion here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Saryn Hooks (second nomination). Thank you. - CrazyRussian talk/email 17:27, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

Thanks for pointing out the source thing for my Chelmsford - new to this, and my source was my memory, my third grade teacher was the one I remember telling me about Emerson having a school there! I put the relevant source under references - is there a better way to do that?

Melchionni[edit]

Like you, I question the motives of the second nominator. Check his user and talk pages. Just to clarify, Melchionni was 1 of 4 co-captains in 2005-06. 4 out of 6 seniors in the roster jointly held the position. ccwaters 17:22, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh a UNC fan, that clears things up then. Understand about the co-captains thing, I guess it's just semantics really as each of them is technically "captain" of the team. At least that's how I have always understood it works, having been co-captain of sports teams in the past. Whatever, I think we both understand what I mean and hopefully others will in the AfD. DrunkenSmurf 17:32, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not mean to seem overbearing. Based on your comments, I thought we agreed that Ed McMahon and Michael Chiklis belonged but that others don't who are only tenuously connected in what is already a long list. I am welcome to further discussion on the matter, though in the particular case of Lowell, the only one you objected to who has not since been added back is Scott Grimes. If you need any help with anything as a new user, I would be happy to help. If you want to get more involved with the community of Wikipedia users, two places I know of are Wikipedia:Esperanza and IRC chat. —Centrxtalk • 02:54, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm sorry to say that is the way I felt, I am not saying you had bad intentions or anything, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think in a similiar situation in the future you may want to make sure the person you are having the conversation with is not a newbie, maybe we would have had a differant conversation had that been the case. As far as the article goes I'm fine with the way it stands right now and am fine with the results of our discussion, I guess it was the way it went, not the end result. (If that makes any sense) Anyways, it appears as though your RfA is going to sail through anyways, perhaps I should have brought this to your attention sooner. I consider the matter closed, hopefully we can work together on an article in the future. DrunkenSmurf 03:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks from Yanksox[edit]

Hey, DrunkenSmurf, thanks for supporting my RfA, with a tally of 104/4/7...

I am now an admin!!!

I was and still am very flattered by all the kind comments that I recieved, I will also take into account the comments about how I could improve. I guarantee I will try my best to further assist Wikipedia with the mop. Feel free to drop in and say hi or if you need anything. Again, thank you so much! Yanksox 07:41, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for supporting the AfD on "Guardians of High Charity"! However, there is another page which I also put down for AfD - Freelancer: Combat Evolved. It is a Halo 2 mod, and my reason for the AfD was for vanity and inconsequentialism.

The AfD discussion can be found at the following - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Freelancer: Combat Evolved.

Thanks!

Cheers,

re: redirects question[edit]

Well, redirects from plausible typos of pagenames have always been accepted. Implausible typos can generally be deleted. But in this case it seems plausible... so no harm. A redirect takes like... 30 bytes of server space, and they have terabytes to burn, so as they say "Redirects are cheap". There's more at WP:RFD - specifically see "When should we delete a redirect?". --W.marsh 02:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Drunken Smurf (sweet name!), and thank you for the "strong support" on my recent RfA. The final tally was 72/1/0, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I'll be tentative with the new buttons for a while, and certainly welcome any and all feedback on how I might be able to use them to help the project. All the best, and thanks again! — Deville (Talk) 01:22, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Foley[edit]

Why don't you turn on the radio before you tell me I'm wrong? Or at least go to CNN. Breaking news is that Steve Foley was shot dead by an off-duty police officer.--65.96.255.196 22:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This Steve Foley is an English football coach, not the same guy who got shot. DrunkenSmurf 22:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers[edit]

I agree with you that it should be speedied, and every now and then the IPs and new users who are involved in an edit war on it end up reverting to my CSD templates. I wonder if an admin will look at it at precisely the right time... BigHaz - Schreit mich an (Review me) 22:44, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Park Hill South High School[edit]

I appreciate your interest in my alma mater, but I disagree entirely with your definition of what it takes to be a "notable" alum from Park Hill South High School. I checked your location, and you are from Massachusetts. Therefore, you have NO IDEA who is or isn't a notable alumni from this high school in Riverside, MO. You have absolutely no interest in this matter, except - it seems - to meddle in the affairs of a newly created Wikipedia site. I will be adding the list of notable alumni back to the page, until you can convince me why YOUR definition of "notable" is correct and why I - or anyone - should accept your demands regarding the subjective issue of who is deemed a notable alumni from PHS.

I understand what you are trying to do, and I am completely disgusted that you would apply the noble aims of keeping Wikipedia free from misinformation to the subjective list of notable alumni from my alma mater. Park Hill South's notable alumni are not accountable to your definition of what makes them notable.

Thank you. Chriswurst 22:35, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Haege[edit]

Thanks for the input. I have just looking at random articles and know nothing about US sport. However I think you would agree that there is nothing notable here so far, but that can be easily changed. JMcC 07:51, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Point taken, I will attempt to try and add some additional information, although I think his notability is a bit on the week side so even if I clean it up I would not be offended by you or someone else suggesting it goes through an AfD and letting the community decide one way or another. Thanks again. -- DrunkenSmurf 19:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help and ideas needed[edit]

Hi,

Sorry you've been spammed, but I hope you'll find for a good reason. I've noticed you are active around the recent changes arena (normally having beaten me to a revert), and I'm currently looking for help with a new project. I would like to harmonise all the warnings and templates we issue, with goal to creating a standard look, format and content to the messages. Even if you use VP, VS or any of the other vandal tools out there, I still feel this is worthwhile. Please visit here for further information, and leave me a message if you're interested, or tell me to get lost ;) if you haven't the time. Image:Jon Lester.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jon Lester.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. mattbr 11:47, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
