12th amendment[edit]

I do not understand the phrase about electors cannot vote for president or VP if one of them is from the same state. No as far as I know - it means that electors cannot vote for President and Vice President from the same state that they are representing. "No elector may cast votes for Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates who both inhabit the same state as that elector (Habitation Clause). Log move[edit]

This morning, on my look at 'mywatch', a whole lot of log moves. Below is the text of one:

Harry Potter archive pages[edit]

This seems to be an Admin question/problem. And maybe I should not have done all I did. For my user page, wanted a picture of self as Dumbledore - upload - hey, the upload page says there used to be an image with the same name, Dumbledore.jpg, that had been deleted, so I just went ahead. But when done, I noted that several pages were linked to that 'deleted' 'Dumbledore.jpg' image. So, I went to them, and 'fixed' them so that this unrelated image would not come up on a page where a now deleted image used to be. Fine, except that two of the pages are archives, and I gather I should not edit them - that is an Admin job if it is to be done. The pages are Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Harry Potter/Archives 6 and 8.

What I should have done, now too late, is not use that deleted image name for my uploaded image. Oh well, live and learn! --Dumarest (talk) 20:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just like MoP said, its not a problem for you to change those pages yourself. I wanted to add, however, that if you'd like to change the name of the image to avoid confusion, you can request that the image under its current name be deleted by adding {{db-author}} to the image page, and then uploading the image again under a different name. --Nick—Contact/Contribs 20:51, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Okay. You have to create an account at commons if you don't have one already. Once there, upload the image at commons yourself (if you don't know how to do this, ask me). Janis Joplin talk page archive[edit]

Check out the talk page for Janis Joplin. A recent change archived the page, but it seems to me that what was done was replacing a previous archive with a new one, rather that doing an archive-2. Can't be sure of this but could this be checked?? --Dumarest (talk) 11:27, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks OK to me. The old stuff is in Talk:Janis_Joplin/Archive_1, and there is a link to that at the top of the talk page.
LaVidaLoca (talk · contribs) removed the stuff from the talk page with this edit, and put it into the archive with this edit.
There was then a slight confusion, as Dumarest (talk · contribs) said 'Sorry, I can't find any such archive, so reverted.' - and put the stuff back, here.
LaVidaLoca (talk · contribs) then corrected the date in the archive link at the top of the talk page, and removed the archived material again, with this edit.
So - all appears to be in order.

Mea culpa - I realized that the talk page had been there for a number of years, and the first item in the archived talk was dated 2007 - but I now see that the topics in that archived page are not in date order - later entries were put at the top not the bottom - and I see that earlier entries are there and that in fact the current archive seems to include all the material. --Dumarest (talk) 14:10, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still curious why the block. Images with missing article[edit]

No real relevance, just puzzled. Re: Wikipedia:Images with missing articles/In the public domain by age Seems just an empty page, with a template on it, and it seems to be unused for over a year. Why not just remove it or some such, as just empty space. Paul Revere[edit]

Dear Dumarest,

Regarding the Paul Revere question you raised in the Bangor, Maine article, there's a second reference just behind the first one which states the matter clearly - a 2009 U. of So. Carolina Press book by Louis Arthur Norton ("Captains Contentious, pp. 81-82). Its not new information, but Norton tells the story in detail, including the part about escaping into the woods.

Still remains a question. The main reference states, "an expedition organized by the likes of Paul Revere, who claimed it would be short, not too difficult nor too risky". Not even Paul Revere himself.
The link on the first page, to an "American account" does not mention Paul Revere specifically at the battle, but notes a later Committee of Enquiry in which Revere "suffered a blow to his reputation". He was evidently the Artillery Commander, and the vessels with artillery apparently were not among those that moved up the river and from which the men ended up in the forest.
As to the second reference, Google books could not show pages 80-82, so I cannot comment. I would like to see those pages, or a firm reference that supports the line "Paul Revere was among the survivors who fled into the woods".

The book should be at your local library, or certainly the nearest university library. If you can't obtain a copy, and are still concerned, you could always email the author, who's a noted naval historian and university professor. The reference is quite explicit about Revere retreating into the forest.

Sickle Cell Disease Article[edit]

Hello Dumarest - I am a graduate student at Suffolk University in Boston, MA getting my masters in Women's Health. My specialty is advocacy for Women of color with Sickle Cell Disease - women of african descent, and we have an ongoing assignment in our sociology class to critique an article on Wiki dealing with a woman's health issue. I naturally chose sickle Cell Disease and was astounded by the quality of the article. In my opinion there are some major issues with the article. I won't go too deep into it however I wanted to ask you a more specific question because it appears as if you contribute often to this article. Is it possible to get the beginning of the article changed to reflect the definition of the term Sickle Cell Disease. I have posted a request for edit on the disease talk page, but haven't gotten any responses yet. My next step will be to make the changes and see if my contribution sticks. I guess my question to you is - do you think my assessment is sound and sensible? Plus will I be likely to get my contribution published? Also any tips for a wiki novice? If you go to the Sickle Cell Disease vs. Sickle Cell Anemia section you'll be able to read my rationale behind wanting to change the first sentence and possibly the paragraph. Still think it is a valid image, but I cannot indicate a specific article for the image. It is my contention that the image can be used, as specific to Sports Illustrated, indicating that it is the cover of an issue of the magazine that is specific for the fight, a special issue, relating fair use to the magazine as is indicated in the fair use material. The Ice-T (artist)topic has a to me strange problem. The talk page has two archives, nothing on the current talk page, but no entries since at least 6 months age (on that page there is an indication of an entry only a few days ago??). I can't see anything wrong, to be honest; an automated system archives the page into Archive 1,2,3, etc whenever a thread is over 168 hours old. When an archive reaches a certain size, it starts a new one (ie "Archive 2", "Archive 3", etc).
There are just the two archives.
The last thing archived was back in September 2009, and there have not been any new sections since then - only minor edits.
You can see everything that happened to the talk page in the page history.
If you do think something is wrong, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR

Orts redir[edit]

I don't recall how I ended up doing this, but clicking on Orts redirs to Offal. The article does not use the term Orts, nor does it appear in Miriam-Webster.
