Sounds good, I'll be happy to be your mentor. You'll see I've added a template to your user page that contains links to your course page and course talk page, my user page, user talk page, and email, and the online classroom IRC channel. I'm happy to communicate either via my talk page or via email, although I prefer my talk page. If we're working intensively on editing, however, IRC is often preferable. I see that your campus ambassador or teacher will cover IRC chat next class if you're not already familiar with it. I see you've already chosen a topic -- have you discussed your topic choices with your professor or campus ambassador?

One thing I should clarify with you: I see that you've been told to add ~~~~ to sign your posts. However, I see you're adding it in the wrong place. It should be typed in the main text box where you edit text, directly after your post. You're placing it in the edit summary box, which doesn't sign your posts.

As for responding to this message, you can either continue posting in the section on my talk page, or you can post on your talk page directly below this message. Hi, Dvpolicy11! Just checking in to see how things are going. I see you've started to compile a bibliography on your user page -- looks good! At a quick glance, all of those sources look reliable -- something that's key to Wikipedia. Have you checked out RefTools? If you're interested, the explanation I gave on my talk page is still available here, and that explains how to install. I might try to make a video about RefTools at some point too, and I'll let you know if I do. Anyway, you might consider using RefTools to format those citations using citation templates. These make references very easy to understand, and automatically formats them for you.

As for the draft itself (and I do understand it's just the beginning, but I thought I'd give you some feedback early on), you definitely have the right idea. It is, however, far too heavy on direct quotes from your sources. I would suggest paraphrasing quite a few, if not all, of them. Quotes are usually only necessary when you're showing someone's controversial opinion, i.e.: Jane Doe believes that, "Quotation". This prevents the opinion from being mistaken as absolute fact. They're also used with specific phrases or quotations coined by a specific author. However, something like "A pregnancy-associated death in which homicide is determined to be the manner of death is labeled a pregnancy-associated homicide" can easily be paraphrased. When you paraphrase, feel free to leave out the "Campbell et. al says". This is necessary with a quote, clearly, but without a quote you can simply rely on the reference for attribution. – GorillaWarfare ^{talk • contribs} 20:33, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations![edit]

I see you've successfully merged your sandbox article into Murder of pregnant women! Congratulations on some serious additions to that article! I've taken the liberty of doing some cleanup directly, instead of spelling it all out for you to do. Because the article is in the mainspace now, I will make any changes to the article directly and simply notify you of them. As you can see, I've made some changes to grammar and wikilinking, as well as added a citation and some citation needed templates, and removed some external links and extraneous sentences. The diff of my changes can be seen here. The feedback I gave you on your sandbox talk page still applies, and I see you've gotten some helpful feedback on the talk page from some peers as well. I personally feel like working to globalize the article would be a good next step.

Just a note: I was looking over your edits from the past few days and noticed two things. First, please don't add extraneous line breaks to articles. Secondly, per the external links guideline, you should avoid including external links (such as the one to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence) in the body of the article.
