Your Edits to Ghost Hunters[edit]

Hello. Your edits to the article Ghost Hunters have been reverted, as YouTube videos generally to not satisfy the need for reliable sources on wikipedia. In addition, your additions may also fall afoul of the neutral point of view and no original research needs of the encyclopedia. If you wish to re-insert this material, I recommend finding sources (other prominent paranormal investigators? Scientific American articles? TV critics? etc.) that are commenting on this. (I would also recommend a trimming of the amount of material inserted to just a summary of problems - i.e., the summary of the summary would be "show was criticized by so-and-so, who felt that a "ghostly voice" heard over the earpiece, and ____ (whatever) appeared to have been faked, etc. etc." - at the previous length, you may also run afoul of the undue weight problem.) umrguy42 05:26, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Thank you for finding more sources. I wanted to make a few comments on my changes to your addition. First of all, I mainly tried to clean it up into one paragraph for readability. Secondly, you should note that most personal weblogs aren't necessarily considered reliable sources (especially if it's just someone who watches the show), so, for example with your source on the jacket-pulling, you might wish to see if you can find something with more "authority" to help back that up. Thirdly, I removed the sentence about the fan reaction, as right now, it doesn't seem quite notable enough to be mentioned - shows can upset fans quite a lot, many times. I would say, if you come across for example a TV Guide-type critic who points out that ratings have been sharply declining as a result of the controversy, that would be notable. If the petition you mentioned is commented upon in the media (not blogs, not youtube, etc.), it might be notable. If the petition actually succeeds in getting the show off the air, THEN it would certainly become notable... but it's something that we have to take a "wait and see" attitude on.
