Body Modification Mass Stubbing[edit]

I'm wondering why you put the stub notice on a variety of Body piercing related articles? Some of are legitimate stubs and others, like the Frenum piercing entry are pretty fleshed out, definitely not stubbs. Glowimperial 11:59, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ganguly pictures[edit]

Hello Dwaipayanc,

Thanks for finding photos of Saurav Ganguly. However, I'm afraid we're not going to be able to use them. We can't use photos without the permission of the photographer (unless they're so old that the photos are now out of copyright). It's a shame — the articles look much better with them — but unfortunately it's the law and we're likely to get sued otherwise.

Image Tagging Image:Aparna1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aparna1.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --AKeen 01:36, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Can you please add a copyright tag for the images you have uploaded. Specifically, Image:Roticurry010105.jpg. If you do not tag the images, it could be deleted. If you are not familiar with the process, please ask me on my talk page. regards, --PamriTalk 15:09, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in fact please check all your uploaded images and make sure they have a source (where you found them, or it you took them yourself say so) and add an apropriate image copyright tag, otherwise they will be deleted with no further warning after 7 have passed (there is a huge backlog so they might last longer, but don't rely on it). So please fix the problem ASAP. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 17:16, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comic Images[edit]

For images from comic books like Marlinspike.jpg you can add comic fair use tags from Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Fair_Use. There are tags for covers {{Comiccover}}, panels {{Comicpanel}} and scenes {{Comicscene}}.- AKeen 06:06, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Image copyright[edit]

Hi, Here's how you tag an image after you have uploaded. Follow these for each of the images that you have uploaded:

  1. Click on Edit this page.
  2. Choose and Insert one of the Image copyright tags and save. If it is the image that you have taken, I suggest choosing {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. For screenshots or book/comic covers, choose the appropriate fair use license from WP:ICT#Fair_use. For images that others have taken, ask permission to license it under any one of the free licenses. You can suggest {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} as well. --PamriTalk 07:03, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I tagged Image:Agartala gi1.jpg with {{Nolicense}}, but I think it qualified as fair use if airportsindia.org.in which presumably owns the image, also owns the airport. Kappa 14:07, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am not a lawyer, but I believe images from other websites can be fair use if wikipedia is helping the website owner and not competing with it. For example, airportsindia.org.in uses that image to promote the airport, and having the image on wikipedia helps that. But if the image was owned by a separate company making a guide to airports, we would be competing with them, and it would not be fair use to use their images. Sources for Eden Hospital[edit]

Hello, good work on Eden Hospital, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in Eden Hospital? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET for different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 04:01, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Satyajit Ray[edit]

Hello Dwaipayanc

Thanks a lot for your work on the Satyajit Ray articles; I was glad to see additional contributions to the few that I've worked on in the past. At one point, I'd planned to start articles for each of the films; other commitments have kept me from having time to do so. Seeing someone else here with an interest in developing more Ray-related articles definitely encourages me to resume work, however. I did manage to also start an article on one of Ray's books (Our Films, Their Films).

As of late, I've been working to see that Indian (and some East Asian, as well) filmmakers are properly linked to general categories (Film Directors) that are international in their intent, but too Europe- or America-centric in practice. Discovering and seeing Ray's work has been challenging but not impossible here in the U.S.; he's managed to become one of my intellectual heroes, so here (at least) I've tried to see that his work is properly documented, linked, represented, and categorized so that others can easily access it.

Thanks again, and any thoughts or suggestions are very welcome, David--Davidals 11:55, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jana Aranya, Pratidwandi and related stuff[edit]

You wrote: Thank you for letting me know that the articles have crossed copyright infringement ethics.I have tried to modify the articles. Please let me know whether these are proper for Wikipedia now.If anything is wrong(in these articles or anywhere else),I will try my best to conform with the norms. Dwaipayanc

  • My Response: The 'norms' are simply this: Don't copy stuff from other web sites. If you feel as though you know enough about a topic, write the article yourself rather than copying from a copyrighted source. See Wikipedia Copyrights for more information. I can also see that you have been doing a lot more than just plagiarizing - you are a good editor. I know you meant well, but please, don't take content from other web sites. --Tony(Talk), Vandalism Ninja 20:52, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Copyright approval from creator[edit]

Hi, that's excelent.

The image also needed a copyright tag, but I went ahead and added those. You can find the full list of the "aproved" tags at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

Since the image is copyrighted I used {{Fairusein|Lassi}} in combination with {{Withpermission}} and added a small rationale (reasons for thinking it qualifies as fair use). In this case I also added {{fairusereplace}} seeing as it would seem possible that someone could make a freely licensed image of someone making Lassi, though that's not strictly speaking a copyright tag. A good rule of thumb when using copyrighted images is to use the {{Fairusein}} tag (unless there is a "specal" tag for that particular kind of image, like for example {{bookcover}}) in combination with a rationale to show what article the image is intended to be used in and why. We are supposed to have "good reason" in order to justify a "fair use" claim because it is basicaly a "justifiable copyright infringement". Getting permission to use the image is naturaly a very good "excuse" :) Although a completely free (as in freedom) image is still much better, because it allows modification, re-use and does not restrict where and how an image can be used, pluss many countries don't have "fair use" laws, so if someone wants to publish something based on Wikipedia in a country with no "fair use" law they have to first remove all copyrighted images (or at least obtain spesific permission for each image).

Also, after adding a tag to an image be sure to read what is says and double check that the image are used in the way it suggests, some "common sense" is allowed naturaly, but if someone for example upload a high resolution scan of the front of "The Da Vinci Code" and use it in an article about the Catholic Church they have stepped more than a little outside the bounds of what is considered good "fair use" practice. Anyway I'm getting a bit long-winded so I'll stop there, ask if you have any spesific questions I failed to adress above, and I'll (try) to answer. --Sherool (talk) 11:33, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you use a translator? If so, what is its make and model? This bit of inquiry relates to the position of adverbs and prepositions in your sentences. Furthermore, I am interested in interlingual communications and culture, along with the more technical: telecommunications and cryptology.

Articles on India in Swedish Wp[edit]

Regarding your question to me on my Swedish user's discussion page I can tell you that I never visited India. I did however briefly visit Dhaka, Bangladesh, twice. My interest in India is somewhat coincidential, and can perhaps be compared to Immanuel Kant, in that Kant wrote travel guides for far away places without ever leaving Königsberg.

Image copyright problem with Image:Bibhutibhushan.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bibhutibhushan.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 08:49, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stub?[edit]

Why do you think the Dil Chahta Hai article is a stub? It seems complete to me. Zora 00:19, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: De-stubbibg Rang De Basanti[edit]

Hi, I apologize because I have taken the liberty to again add stub to Rang De Basanti , reverting your edit on 1 February. I think there are lots more to be added to the article.Let's just wait and watch.Lots of accolades and awards are on the offing for this fantastic cinema. We have to add those stuff, and perhaps lots of other pieces of info in near future !!!Ciao--

No problem. But if we encourage people to add more, it may result in people adding only reviews - which are best posted in the talk page instead of the main article. Rohitbd 15:37, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess, review links are ok on the article page...but adding actual review content (text) on the article page risks making the article look more of a promo. I don't know...let's see how it goes with time. Rohitbd 16:28, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your article on this topic has been nominated for speedy deletion and deletion. Could you please add more information so that it is at least a viable stub. Capitalistroadster 00:50, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding more information. Hope you weren't offended by my addition of the speedy tag, but as it hadn't been changed for a month and a half I thought you might have forgotten about it. --Malthusian (talk) 09:37, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dwaipayan ... I've rendered this stub slightly more readable (I hope!) but it's crying out for additions. I don't know enough about the subject to help. As in the case of Habra, just trying to make things readable as well as revert inflammatory edits. I'm more familiar with Bangalore and Delhi nabes. Re: Copy vio Rang De Basanti[edit]

Ooops, they made the synopsis a copy vio!!Good that you did your best to re-write the synopsis.I think this page is getting good traffic nowadays, and a copy-vio stub does not look good in such a page. Anyway,I think you are also in love with the movie just like I.How is the reaction to the movie abroad?(I see that you live in Geneva). Ciao--Dwaipayanc 10:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC

I am glad that I saw the movie. You know what? I went to the theatre *just because* they were showing a Hindi movie, but little did I know what was in store! It hit me like thunderbolt...anyways, AFAIK the reaction of most (> 90%) Indians who saw it is very positive, can't say about non-Indians, though. Even on sulekha site (http://www.sulekha.com/movies/moviehomepage.aspx?cid=306527) the responses are all very positive. It seems the movie is (out of 5 stars) either getting 4-5 stars or 1-2 stars (no average), but most are 4-5 stars which shows that it has affected many people positively. I just hope that in India maximum people (especially youngsters) see it. I guess being abroad myself, I don't have the right to give sermons about patriotism though. Rohitbd 12:41, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi.Yes,at least in Kolkata (wgere I am) the film is gonna be a big hit I think.College students are flocking to thr thratres.I am planning to see the movie once again. It's worth multiple watching!Read the BBC review link that I added to Rang De Basanti. The review is short but good.--Dwaipayanc 12:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. It is worth watching many times. I read the BBC review link, even sent my comments (don't know if they'll publish it) and its good to see its doing good in UK. I mean this movie is going to be a big hit - for the simple reason that you & I and all youngsters can readily identify with the characters. I mean in college we WERE those characters!! I have asked everyone that I came across to see it...and am currently pushing my younger brother via chat to see it :-) Rohitbd 12:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Rang De Basanti synopsis[edit]

Hello, Please see Talk:Rang De Basanti#Possible_copyright_problems. It is regarding the sysnopsis - perhaps it should be shortened, because as it stands the whole story is revealed in it and this may risk another copyright violation. Thanks. Rohitbd 09:48, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,
