Moving the photo down...[edit]

So promptly my wish was fulfilled! Goodness gracious! Now in Jagaddhatri page two photos too nearby does not give a tidy feeling. My photo, if possible can be moved under the History para. And please teach me how to upload photos from Wikicommons to wikipedia. — VMO 16:46, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well done! Thanks for your positive response! — VMO 03:37, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History merge[edit]

I have requested a history merge on Wangjing, Beijing, an article you created a short time ago. Please, next time when you create disambig pages like that, MOVE the page rather than copy and paste. This will preserve the history of the article which is necessary under the GFDL. Thanks, Metros 16:48, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Geology of the Himalaya[edit]

Hi, you have added a references to the article on the Geology of the Himalaya. I am not sur that it makes any sense to cite the work of E. Catlos in reference to the fact that the Himalayas are the result of a collision between two continental tectonic plates (many geologist have said it before her and it is common knowledge anyway). However, if you really think that this citation is of any value, you should correct the link 1. [Elizabeth Jacqueline]. Cause it doesn't work Moumine 21:46, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As for you your total count exceeds 8513 with 2538 unique edits... I don't call that a bit infrequent. rgds, --hydkat 06:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla[edit]

There's a selected article drive for Bangla on the west Bengal portal. Do u know when this will be finally decided? I will try for FA sometime soon, just maybe wanted to get the selected article thing out of the way--ppm 05:28, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

okay its up for a FA drive. let's see--ppm 07:41, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dwaipayan,

Just curious. Why did you change the emdashes and endashes to their HTML equivalent in this edit. Is there any such recommendation. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:25, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Long time since our editing paths crossed. Didnt see you on #wikipedia-in since then.

I finally got rid of the India portal clone at Portal:Kerala and it finally sports a (hopefully) better look. When you have time, please take a look, and let me know at Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Peer review/Portal:Kerala (or on my talk). Cheers!--thunderboltz(Deepu) 17:55, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dwaipayan![edit]

Hope all is well my friend. With grant season ending here recently and the deadlines for GI meetings coming up, I've been a little busy. I see Bengali language is up for FAC now and that the pool of Indian admins is growing. Hope to see your name there soon as well. Just let us know. -- Samir धर्म 06:40, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Felt great to see your msg. on my talkpage. Had I not been inactive on WP and busy elsewhere, I'd have nominated you at the rfa by now. It was great meeting you in person - so, the feeling is mutual! --Gurubrahma 07:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tagore[edit]

I'm OK with it. To be honest, I was at first thinking it wasn't justified because, for example, famous American and Australian last names don't just redirect to the most famous person bearing the name. For example, Lachlan Macquarie probably got half of Australia named after him and is probably as well-known there as Tagore is in India, but Macquarie doesn't redirect to him. But then I thought about Gandhiji, and realized that to give Tagore the same one-name redirect is good. So it depends on culture, I guess. And thanks for doing it. :) Saravask 19:33, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla[edit]

yes, odd terminolgy. that section needs to be shortened and corredted--ppm 03:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Thanks for the information on Bengali language. I've been quite busy lately and only able to check on the articles in my watchlist for vandalism. I'll take a look ASAP. As far as the spelling of Chau/ Chhau I don't see any problems with either as long as they link to the main article. Take care. Antorjal 17:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Not bad. I'd like to see some points covered:
  • If I run the program while doing something else in my computer, does it significantly affect the speed of performance?
  • Is there any significant stastistical trend among people who allow there computer to use the program (for example, whether most of the users are chemistry/biology students)? (however, this data will be :*How does merely "contributing electricity" by Playstation3 would help the project?
  • Need to have more wikilinks to technical terms. For a person who does not understand computer lingo adequately, sometimes it is tough to read the article. For example, what is "450 X1900" GPU, or, what is "x86-64" Linux?
  • "...is measured against couple simple qualificators." - what is couple simple qualificators? Or am I missing some word?
  • WU=working units, right?
  • "With push to larger WUs and longer folding timeslices, the system speed is influencing more the possible porting decision than the possible system count" - hard to understand. Please elaborate. Also please wikilink System speed and system count.
  • How about a section on problems/bugs of the program? Is there any controversy regarding it's acceptability among the scientific community?
  • Why did not Google toolbar incorporate the program this time?
  • Lead needs slight expansion.
I think addressing these concerns would help some sections get rid of the "stubby" look as noted above by Selmo. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006[edit]

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.
  • As before, we'd like to stress, this is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. If you have received or given any barnstars recently, do let us know. Sponsored content for recruitments within your WikiProject sub-groups are also welcome. We'll be very happy to include them here.
  • Before we sign off, Advance New Year Wishes, everyone.

Nathu La[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for the additions. They were very helpful. BTW, do you think the article is ready for FAC? Or do we still need more info/major structural changes. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 11:43, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I am aware that the pass is not open to tourists before 2012. That is why I have edited all sentences that said something like "...now Tibetans would be able to...", to now say that "...the pass makes the distance shorter..", etc. If you think any more correction is required to make things clearer, please go ahead with it. Just drop a note to Nichalp, as he has asked me when will I stop editing it so that he can flex his muscles there. About the image, I have no idea. It was added by Nichalp, and I haven't deleted it. If you have doubts over its validity, please consult him. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have left him a message at the article's talk page. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you mentioned, there are issues with the prose, namely it is tilted to the Indian POV. I will try and balance the prose over the next weekend. Secondly the infobox is pro-India, that needs to be changed. To answer your question about the image. I did not add the image to the article, but this is the source: [2]. The photographer is a native of Kalimpong, so he would know best. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be posting further comments on the Nathula talk page. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,To mention Ambuj Saxena I don't think that the pass is closed for tourist as I visited it in October, 2005. He have to be sure about it. Go on with the project I am with it.Amartyabag 16:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the context was to allow ordinary civilians to cross over, like the India-Nepal border. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:11, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Partition of India[edit]

Hi,

Well copy-pasting from Partition of India wont solve the problem, page histories have to move too!. Actually some guys moved the page unilateralyy to Collapse of British India. I accidently moved it to Partition Of India rather than Partition of India!

New film[edit]

Saw you set up the Sacred Evil article - IMDB doesn't have much on this, and says it's still in production. Does it have an official website?--Shtove 00:17, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick response. I guess the links could go in to the article. I left a message at Talk:Bollywood#New genres wondering if thrillers and horror would become mainstream for Indian producers - any ideas, links?--Shtove 16:44, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hoysala[edit]

Hi. I just wanted to clarify a point that you made during copy edit. The collective term used to describe the entire clan is called Hoysala, as described in the "legend" section. The word Hoysala = Hoy + Sala. Even scholars are not really clear which one of the early kings was "sala" though almost all records of the Hoysalas from 1117 narrates a story of "sala" as the founder and that he was from Sosevur (Chikmagalur district) As one may imagine, the chieftains from Arekalla(950 CE)-->Maruga-->Nripa Kama I(976)-->Munda(1006-1026)-->Nripa Kama II(1026-1047) may have been hereditery chieftains belonging the the same family lineage. I am going to add more info on legends from my source which I seem to have missed earlier.Dineshkannambadi 01:01, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, thanks for your excellent editing of Nabakrishna Deb. I think there still is a lot to learn. Second, I have been trying to gather some material on Sutanuti. I find that much of the material is common for Kalikata, Sutanuti and Gobindapur. That led me to think whether we should combine the three pages. Alternatively, I can first develop the Sutanati page and then you can think what to do. Regards. -- P.K.Niyogi 03:46, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I will work on Sutanuti. I am not very knowledgeable about Cinema matters. At one point of time I was secretary of Burnpur Film Society but then I lost touch. Regards. -- P.K.Niyogi 15:18, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
