Hoysala records=inscriptions or books?[edit]

Hi. A very good question. Unless otherwise stated, records are inscriptions on stone or copper plates. They can however take poetic forms and even become literary like in composition, even though they are inscriptions. Examples are the Aihole record (in a Jain temple) of court poet Ravi Kirti, an eulogy of king Pulakesi II. The earliest extant Kannada poetry is the Kappe Arabhatta record which is poetry on stone.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 15:29, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This topic, was a sub article attached to the main "Chalukya Dynasty" page. I have been working on it in the background with an intention to bring it to main article status. Is that allowed. I mean, will the fact that "Chalukya dynasty" became a FA prevent another article on their descendents (bearing the same name) from becoming a FA? I intend to travel to some of their finest monuments in central Karnataka (recently declared national monuments) to learn more about their architecture (a bridge between Badami Chalukya and Hoysala) just for this purpose.Their contribution to South India and Kannada in particular is too vast to be left aside as a sub page.Dineshkannambadi 00:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hoysala[edit]

Hi. I received some candid critisism from user Tony. I have taken his advice and severely delinked the page of repeat links. He was also against Chronological links and I have removed both year and century links, even from the Infobox for kings and reworded the Lead and Architecture somewhat. I will take a closer look at the whole page tommorow again and remove sweeping statements. Please take a look.Dineshkannambadi 03:42, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will be trying to add some material over the next two days. I have already added a page on Bharatchandra Ray. -- P.K.Niyogi 18:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hoysala[edit]

Hi. I have requested Ambuj. I believe as far as I could understand Tony's comments, I have sincerely tried to address his concerns. I dont think he had any issues with the structure, format, content etc. His concerns were the adjectives, excessive linking which has been addressed.ThanksDineshkannambadi 20:11, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its two week FAR is almost up - are concerns addressed? Wikipedia:Featured article review/Tamil people. Sandy (Talk) 18:30, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding on Tamil people: wrt Hippocrates, unless someone else takes over the article, I don't hold out much hope for the article improving. My sense is that Rmrfstar uses WP:FAC in place of WP:PR. Sandy (Talk) 18:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baul[edit]

I am slowly taking a look at Baul. Due to the depth of the subject matter, I expect it to take a while. In any case, the main bottleneck in the end will be pics. If you can find some pics of Calcuttan Bauls, that would help a lot. Cheers! --ppm 02:47, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting Back!![edit]

Hi, Its greate that you are keeping watch on 'Kolkata' and 'Delhi'. You reverted back to the previous changes.

What I think is that there should be one large picture at start of the article which reflects the identity of that city. That was the reason I enlarged and moved 'Haowara bridge' and 'lotus tample' pics. If you think so please revert it back.

I have done similar change for Hyderabad.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mayur.thakare (talkcontribs)

Hippocrates further[edit]

While it is possible to merge "Humorism" and "Crisis", it's not a good idea, especially considering that Humorism is a summary of Humorism. Similarly, merging "Vis medicatrix naturae" would make the article harder to read and understand while not improving it in any way I can see. Indeed, WP:MOS says "Be generous in adding sub-headings. They help readers to get an overview of the article and to find subtopics of interest." -- Rmrfstar 17:01, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That merge is good work, but I still find the result unreadable for its unbroken length. And while the sections aren't particularly "fleshy", I don't think they can be expanded much. -- Rmrfstar 17:39, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delhi[edit]

Thanks. Ok I will take a look at it. Yes I have put in over 4 months work on Vijayanagar Empire and Western Chalukyas. While I have travelled to only 2 well known Western Chalukya temples, I believe I have enoguh images to make it look colorful.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 17:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also should not forget Hoysala architecture. Having travelled to and photographed over 15 Hoysala temples in South Karnataka and read up on it from books written by architecture experts, I think I have put together a decent amount of information on the basics of their architecture and also feel confident that I understand the basics at an ametuer level. This is a new topic and may bring some interesting suggestions from reviewers.Dineshkannambadi 21:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Luminaries of Kolkata[edit]

Dear Dwaipayanc,

It is indeed a great pleasure for all of us to see your praiseworthy contributions, specially in articles related to India. But why you are against inclusion of list of luminaries? I dont understand at all. Dont you feel that Kolkata's fame was somehow related to these personalities action and reaction in the arena of history to a marked extent?

There is an alternative thought poping up in my mind. Is that true that you moved against this list only after inclusion of some muslim names like Nazrul & Suhrawrdy? If that is true I feel ashamed. Because I still like to thing Calcuttans to be proud of their secular epitome. Kolkata indeed is the most secular and progessive place in whole of India.

Thanks a lot once again for being so supportive to wikipedia. And please pardon me if I am wrong in my assumptions. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.84.38.246 (talk) 06:15, 27 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

your Paulins Kill FAC objection[edit]

Your objection to the featured article candidacy of Paulins Kill is specious for reasons I have stated in my reply here as my citations are well without the bounds of WP:CITE, WP:RS and WP:V. As the reasons behind your objection are wholly without merit, I respectfully request that you rescind your objection. —ExplorerCDT 18:22, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dwaipayanc: Yes, I am now somehow convinced of your position. I would not insist on keeping the list of luminaries of Calcutta.

I stiil think Calcutta to be the most secular place in whole of India. That's my believe. Since I know that the objectivity of this may be questioned, that's why I did not put it into the main article. I just communicated my believe to you in the talk page.

I have taken care of the basic clean up (though much more is left in the form of flowing prose, excessive linking etc). Hi[edit]

Hi, Let me start by wishing you a happy new year. In December, I tried to make a trip to Darjeeling. But that did not materialize even this time :( Instead I spent two days at Ghoom. I got information regarding the ghoom monastery and the japanese peace pagoda in darjeeling (and a few bits here and there as well). But currently I am on a 56K connection, can't upload them. Once I get back to coll (thats on Jan 8), I will summarize everything in a blog (with sources), upload the photos to flickr and give you the link to both. You can then use the info the way you like to and upload the pictures that you want directly from flickr or tell me which ones you want and I will upload them. Regards, and have a great year ahead. :) --soumসৌমোyasch 18:37, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I will look it over, today hopefully, and recast my vote. Thanks for the allert. KP Botany 19:16, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Agartala gi1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Agartala gi1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If not, I will revert back to your original version. Dhannabaad, mahaashay! --Kuaichik 05:52, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you again! Hmm, I don't know about any one Ray film...I think several of his films are quite similar in complexity (especially everything from Pather Panchali to Kanchenjungha in chronological order).
If there were one article I would try to (eventually) nominate for FA status, it would probably be the article on Ankur that I created. --Kuaichik 08:42, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh...aachha...well, I'll see what I can do about that, although I normally focus on plot (as far as movies are concerned) and I'm not sure how much information on production is available. In that respect, it would definitely be much easier to have Pather Panchali run for FA status (considering the amount of information available on SatyajitRay.org about the production) :-P --Kuaichik 09:06, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aquatica is situated in village Kochpukur under Rajarhat Police Station, far away from Salt Lake. Therefore it was removed.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Amitsanyal (talkcontribs)

I just had a thought: if Pather Panchali is to be run for FA status, shouldn't we probably change the sentence that says "...this indicates the extent of the first film's cultural impact" ? If so, I'm not quite sure how it should be changed. Perhaps we could say something more detailed there: maybe some information about how many theaters featured it internationally, how much money Ray earned from it (or, if he actually didn't earn much, how much time it took him to get the Government of West Bengal to fund his films before and after Pather Panchali), and how much longer (and/or how many more times) he had to rely on government funds for making more films.

We could probably mention (if there is a source to support this claim, which I'm currently guessing there is) that it is still played on television in West Bengal along with some of his other films. Anyway, I plan to make some more changes to the Pather Panchali article and then perhaps to Aparajito before translating the latter article into Spanish (which was my original, er, objective!). --Kuaichik 01:11, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I suspect the "Critical Reception" section needs quite a bit of improvement. I don't know of a single FA that talks of a film's critical acclaim just by quoting from a bunch of critics and citing the sources. More detail, I think, would be needed for an FA. Once again, anek dhannabaad! --Kuaichik 01:52, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pather Panchali[edit]

There is also some production information on Filmography of Satyajit Ray. I guess the version you have put up is a good starting point, but it could use some tweaking from that page.
