• Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.

Uploading

Wikipedia does not support uploading images in the bmp format so what you will have to do is save the image as a jpeg, png, gif, or svg. To do this, open your image in MS Paint, click "save as" (this will save it as a new image still keeping the old one in bmp format), at the bottom of the dialog box that pops up it says "Save as type:", click on the scroll down menu and choose the extension you want to use. When you save the image it will save it in that format. Tip: use gif and png for logos and simple images, and use jpeg for photos and more complex images. This will save the most amount of space for the server. Feel free to contact me if you still have trouble. --WillMak050389 15:06, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the star, I really appreciate it. Hope to see your images around now that you can do it! Have a great day. --WillMak050389 15:13, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

IslamicBarnstar

We were voting on the new version of the Islamic Barnstar Award, but then confusion arose after the old, voted-down version was brought up in our discussion. This is the version we were voting on Template:IslamicBarnstar. --JuanMuslim 1m 20:41, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry about that. I got kinda confused about which is which. Anyway, take this barnstar. I give it to Wikipedians who create successful barnstars. --Ed 20:49, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm moving it to your main page.--Ed 21:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for the barnstar. --JuanMuslim 1m 03:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I changed your edit. The tradition has been to move an award to the PUA page if it has languished too long. There was no consensus on this one. Thta's my take. --evrik 18:26, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
    • There was clearly a consensus. --JuanMuslim 1m 04:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
The original Islamic Barnstar was introduced and designed by Irishpunktom. That version was clearly rejected. The new version was introduced and designed by me. Acceptance for the idea - the Islamic Barnstar Award - as well as the current design has been accepted. --JuanMuslim 1m 16:21, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Football (soccer) barnstar

Hmm. I see someone has replaced it on the discussion page. I suppose a project award would be better than nothing, but I was hoping for a full Barnstar. --Guinnog 18:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I reverted the discussion primarily because in the past, the discussions have lasted longer than just a few days. The normal period has been at least two weeks for a popular idea. --evrik 18:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

David Miller

Hello,

Could you explain why you chose to move the David Miller page? I'm not certain that this was a good idea. CJCurrie 23:30, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm aware that there are several public figures named David Miller, and I have no problem with having a disambiguation page. My concern is that the decision to link the David Miller page to David Miller (disambiguation) may have been made prematurely. Most of the pages linking to David Miller refer to David R. Miller, whose entry is considerably longer than most of the other public figures with the same name.

I think it makes sense to have David R. Miller on the David Miller page, and to keep the disamb separate. CJCurrie 01:34, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

What are you currently trying to do on the Miller page? CJCurrie 01:41, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I am an admin, and I'll take care of this in a moment. CJCurrie 01:46, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar

Thanks a bunch, Ed, but I'm not sure if I deserve a Photographer's Barnstar for simply proposing an alternate image on WP:BAP, especially since it had nothing to do with photographic contributions. Sango123 21:35, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Heh... thanks! ;) I'll leave it up to you; I certainly don't mean any offense, but it's difficult for me to accept an award that I'm not fit to receive. Hope you understand. Regards, Sango123 21:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Your sig

Hi Leroyencyclopediabrown. I was wondering, would you consider subst'ing your signature template when signing posts? If you don't subst', it's an unnecessary drain on the servers, and transcluded signatures require extra processing whenever you change your signature, as all talk pages you have posted on must be re-cached. —Mets501 (If responding, please do so on my talk page) 15:24, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I'll fix it ASAP. By the way, I'm a member of Esperanza, and you'll notice I have a green E on my sig. However, when see it, the E is purple. Do you know how to fix it?--Edtalk c E02:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
No problem. You can just put
--Edtalk c <font color="green">E</font>
in your preferences under "signature" and check the "Raw signature" box. (That above also includes the changed position of the <font> tags so that the E will appear green). Also, when you include the two dashes in the signature, then you can just type ~~~~ instead of --~~~~ when signing. —Mets501 (If responding, please do so on my talk page) 15:32, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks so much for the barnstar!! Glad to help anytime! See you around :-) —Mets501 (If responding, please do so on my talk page) 17:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

voting symbols in talk pages

Hi,

Please don't use the voting comment tag when you make comments on talk pages. The symbol is for voting. In a talk page it clutters the page and draws the eye to your comment, which you might think is cool, but in the long term is very uncool, because it will incite other people to use their own icons. This would suck a lot.

Thanks,

Hi Leroyencyclopediabrown! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Shreshth91 with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks.

May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 08:18, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Leroyencyclopediabrown. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness and general niceness. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.

Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Shreshth91 using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 18:14, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Stress (don't worry!)

Hey Ed, I'm sorry to hear that you're so stressed out about high school! It can be a pretty intimidating time, but try not to get too stressed out about it. I remember back when I started high school, I was rather scared too. It was so different from middle school, and I'd heard so many stories about freshmen getting picked on by the older kids. But when I got there, it wasn't all that bad; it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone said, and even though some of the teachers were pretty crazy, you can always complain and laugh about it with your fellow freshmen. Good luck, and before you know it, you'll be done with all four years. -- Natalya 18:54, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Ed, that's really nice of you! I'm glad it could help. :) -- Natalya 20:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

History of the Philippines

Hi, thanks for your comments at FAC. Just to clarify... is your objection on the number of citations (in which case I'll add more), or the quality of sources (in which case I'll have to find others)? Coffee 02:28, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'll try to get the article better sourced. By the way, you might be interested in Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines, a sort of notice board for Filipinos and people working on Philippine-related articles. :p Coffee 03:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Do you insist on citations in the lead? My reasoning on not having citations in the lead section was that it's just a short summary of the rest of the article, and doesn't introduce any new facts that aren't in other sections. Examples of other recently promoted FAs that do the same thing are Padmé Amidala, German occupation of Luxembourg in World War I, Ecclesiastical heraldry, Don Dunstan, and Summer of '42.
