January 2013[edit]

Hello, EdgarMueller. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Edgar Müller, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 14:53, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is your only warning; if you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising again, as you did at Edgar Müller, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Toddst1 (talk) 15:00, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Edgar Müller. Creating an autobiography or editing an article that you are the subject of is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: [[Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted?|Why was my page deleted?]], and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator.

If you are the subject of one of our articles and are displeased with some of the contents. See Wikipedia:Contact us/Article problem/Factual error (from subject) for a general o verview of ways to get problems fixed (as well as an email address). You can also mention s pecific problems on Talk: Edgar Müller if you want specific mistakes corrected.

Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 15:13, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Toddst1,

I apologize for my mistake. I did not mention to show off myself at Wikipedia - that is not my style. The reason I did the changes was that most of the existing content of the current Edgar Müller page is incorrect. My manager indicated that some print and online media have written untruths about me and my work as an artist. A research revealed that Wikipedias page was the source they trusted in. Ok, so I thought it would be the best way to change the content by myself. I'm sorry but did not went through the guidelines about writing as an editor, since as a German it is difficult to understand. To make this work fast and easy I copied and pasted content of my website.

The current content of the page was inserted by an organization from the Sarasota Chalk Festival or from a person working for them. This Festival is mentioned in the content twice. So creating this page was obviously a self promoting act using my name. I'd better like the page to be deleted as to keep the wrong content and dead or senseless links.

Sorry for my English and best regards, Edgar Müller

Hi Edgar,
I got your email. Sorry we got off to a rough start. We see a lot of self-promotion on wikipedia. I apologize if I concluded that you were doing that too quickly. I can tell you're trying to work within our guidelines and this can be tough to figure out.
Yes, The first place to start is by discussing the problem on Talk:Edgar Müller. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can help. Check out this guidance for folks who are subjects of articles that they believe are inaccurate for more info.
I'd start out by introducing yourself as the subject of the article and state that while you're not here to promote yourself, you have concerns about the article and suggestions about how to fix them. Then list them.
If you need specific help or questions answered you can drop me a note on my talk page.
Best regards, Toddst1 (talk) 14:31, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
