Sweet Child o' Mine[edit]

Please stop adding secondary release dates to the infobox of "Sweet Child o' Mine". Template:Infobox song#released says: Generally, later releases or in secondary markets, reissues, on compilations, etc., should only be included in the body of the article. Ok fair point about the two dates, I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for pointing it out to me. The UK release date for Sweet Child isn’t incorrect though, it was 15 Aug 1988. I know this as I know all the UK and US release dates. The UK release date is the Monday before it charted on the UK charts and the US release date is the Tuesday before it charted on the Billboard charts. Both UK charts and US Billboard charts have full history online. It was me that put all the specific release dates of nearly all the GN’R singles in the first place. Before I did that there was only month and year (and not necessarily the correct month either!). I have amended all the GN’R singles so that there is only one date on each infobox. I’ve used the earlier of the two dates regardless of whether it was a UK or US release date. Hope that’s ok. Editstu (talk) 18:59, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, but the UK release date for "Sweet Child o' Mine" can't be August 15 because it first appeared on the UK Singles Chart on August 14. That doesn't make sense. If you take a look at the August 6 issue of Music Week, it says, at the bottom of the new singles listings, "Monday 8 -Friday 12 August". Where exactly did you find this August 15 date? I'd also like to make another point. You're not checking for Release history sections, and you changed the release dates on "You Could Be Mine" and "Live and Let Die" without consulting them. True, Amazon may not be the strongest source, but you can't assume a song was released a certain number of days before it charted in a certain country; that's original research. You also changed the release dates for "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and "Yesterdays" when there was a reliable source literally right next to it. Please check the sources. These Music scans are good but not necessarily correct. While there may have been plans to release a record on a certain date at the time as the publication went to press, sometimes there was a change of plan and records were then released at a later date and weren’t always listed in the next publication. In the case of Yesterdays though, it was updated in time. Originally due to be released on Mon 9 Nov, put back by one week to Mon 16 Nov and was a new entry to the UK chart on Sat 21 Nov. I see your confusion with Sweet Child O’ Mine. It wasn’t ON the charts on 14 Aug, it entered the chart that week. It would have sold that week, entered the UK chart and by Saturday 20 Aug (last day of trading for the week) it was at number 35. They would then have played it on the BBC Radio 1 chart show on Sunday 21 August as a new entry. Editstu (talk) 18:27, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
