Notability[edit]

To give you the reference again, the article is now in your "User space" at User:Edmprice/Brodie Van Wagenen where you can work on it. Your main problem is to establish WP:Notability, a technical term in Wikipedia, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people unconnected with the subject found him important enough to write substantial comment about?

Most of the links in the article seemed to be quotes from him or references to him as Zimmerman's agent, but notability is not inherited - just being agent to somebody notable does not make him notable. JohnCD (talk) 21:47, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why this does not reach the standard of notability. He represents scores of baseball players and negotiates millions of dollars of contracts and is cited as such in many places. The things that count towards notability are the ones which say something about Van Wagenen, not just mention him as someone's agent or give a short quote from him. I would put ref #3 in that category, and to some extent #2. #1 just shows him in a list - OK for verifying that he was at that college, but not for notability, #4 is a short quote from him, #5 just says someone has switched to him, #6 isn't about him. You might get away with this, it's not an absolute standard, but it would be much better if you can find one or two more which talk about him and his career, not about the people he represents. No, references to every deal won't help if they are just snippets. JohnCD (talk) 21:45, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
