Milwaukee School of Engineering football[edit]

Say, do you know anything about the history of MSOE's football program. I have it from an inside source in the Student Life department that MSOE is officially undefeated against Notre Dame in football, which would be distinct as the only team in the coutry to do so. Can you possibly verify that during the course of your work-day? Cheers, PaddyM 04:05, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, both of my alma maters haven't lost a single game to Notre Dame this season, although Michigan's streak isn't as long. Perhaps I should take a picture of the corresponding MSOE football T-shirt and add it to the main article. That would be great encyclopedic content. Best Regards, Edurant 04:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'm reading your response incorrectly, but I mean that MSOE is undefeated in the history of their program, not metaphorically since they do not currently have a team. Does that make sense? Anyway, I can't find the proper citation anywhere for it, unless maybe a book at the MSOE bookstore might have some insights. Cheers, PaddyM 18:01, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Although I think there was a football team at one point, very long ago, I would say it is not of note for Wikipedia. The "undefeated in football since 1903" is a common joke in the MSOE community and I thought you were alluding to that joke. Edurant 22:40, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two FYI's[edit]

Just noticed a couple of editing things in a recent edit you made. One is that you don't have to use |'s to "uncapitalize" links. For instance, Volt and volt both work. One of the few places the wiki-links makes any sense IMHO. Also a style note, generally you only link to the first instance of a word, at least in a small area. So basically if one sentence has volt and it's linked, you don't do it in the next couple of paras. It reduces the sea of blue effect. Anyway, enjoy! Maury 21:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Starkey and red links[edit]

If you think the red links to Starkey Laboratories and Starkey Hearing Foundation will encourage their creation, feel free to put them back in. I didn't find much on them in WP the first time I looked. Now I see Starkey Labs (not Laboratories) in the Eden Prairie article. If that were properly red-linked, it would deter some of the careful disambig-page cleaners from ripping out that entry. The fact (if it's a fact) that it's the world's largest mfr of hearing aids probably qualifies it for an article. Consider adding a stub for it. You might be surprised how many people will add info to a stub, but find it hard to actually start an article. Your assumptions about my reasons for their removal are just about right, and your thinking on having a red link if only to reassure readers that their search was correct is also well founded, I think. Dab cleaners have to decide between adspam and truly notable companies that deserve articles; I like to think I get most of them right. If I mess one up here and there, the article will probably get written before long and then added to the dab page anyway, I hope. If you would like to discuss any other aspects of this, please feel free. I have met some of my best Wikipedian friends and collaborators by stepping on toes while trying to do some good. If you want me to fix up any of this, just ask. If you have all you need, happy editing! Chris the speller 00:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more thought: as WP is not an index, the matter of whether either of these is frequently called simply "Starkey" comes into play on a dab page. If they are never called by just the one name, some editors may want to remove them, as the natural title for their articles is something longer than "Starkey". Some editors will glance at the article to see if the name is actually used that way, e.g. "Starkey is the largest manufacturer ...", in which case the entry should be in the top part of the dab page. "Starkey College", if there were one, might be taken off the dab page because readers would be expected to type both words and hit the "Go" button. Although a dab page is meant only to differentiate articles that could have the same natural title, I would put Starkey Laboratories under the "See also" section as a courtesy to the reader who is not sure if it is Starkey Company, Starkey Manufacturing or Starkey Corporation. Hope this sheds plenty of light. Chris the speller 00:37, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I might nominate your Starkey Laboratories stub for "Featured Stub" status.  ;-) It looks good. Chris the speller 04:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Edurant! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
