New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Edwardx,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Igal Ahouvi

Dear Edward,

I trust this message finds you well. My name is Daniel Lev.

I hope my English is clear and understandable.

I have been actively editing the article about Igal Ahouvi, focusing on presenting factual information while removing opinions and content derived from tabloid sources. In each edit, I provided a detailed explanation for the change made.

I noticed that all my edits were undone without any explanations. I understand from the "talk page" about Ahouvi that material about living persons should not be added when the sole sourcing is tabloid journalism, which aligns with my approach.

I also observed that you contribute to teaching writers on Wikipedia. If possible, I would appreciate your guidance on how to make changes that won't be subject to deletion.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your assistance.

Best regards,

18:21, 25 December 2023 (UTC)~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lev.daniel (talkcontribs)

Thank you, Lev.daniel. You have been removing cited content from 'Haaretz, Globes and TheMarker. How are these "tabloid sources"? Nothing at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources suggests this. Looking at your talkpage, you come across to others as a paid/COI editor. Do you have any conflict of interest with regard to Igal Ahouvi? Edwardx (talk) 14:39, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Dear Edward,
Thank you for your response.
Firstly, I am indeed interested in the article about Igal Ahouvi, as I mentioned in the 'talk' section of the article.
'Haaretz' and 'Globes' can sometimes resemble tabloids, especially when it comes to writers expressing opinions rather than focusing on facts.
I reiterate my request for you to review the changes I've already made. For instance, in places where 'Igal Ahouvi' is mentioned, it would be correct to specify that it was infact Ravad company.
I believe that the original article about Igal Ahouvi is biased and written in a manner that harms his good name. Therefore, I request changes to address this issue.
It is sufficient to examine the opening paragraph, which states: 'Over the years, Ahouvi has been involved in numerous legal battles and controversial disputes stemming from his business ventures and conduct.'
Every businessperson may find themselves in business disputes. Is this the impression that deserves prominence on Wikipedia? Furthermore, upon closer inspection of his biography, you'll find only two legal disputes.
Another example is a quote from legal proceedings that concluded with a settlement agreement that deleted the claim.
I hope you will reconsider the corrections I made.
Best regards Lev.daniel (talk) 08:44, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
since you haven't answered yet, i made another small change in the articel, earasing the sentence that claims:
Following the global economic crisis in 2008, Ahouvi's business ran into difficulties.
The "source", the atricle from "The Marker" magazine does not says that Ahouvi's business ran into difficulties.
still waiting for your help and attention.
Lev.daniel (talk) 00:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
@Edwardx I hope this message finds you well. I would like to continue editing the article about Igal Ahouvi and ensure that the modifications align with Wikipedia's guidelines and standards. Currently, the article contains a statement that reads:
"Over the years, Ahouvi has been involved in numerous legal battles and controversial disputes stemming from his business ventures and conduct."
Let's clarify the facts:
Igal Ahouvi has personally been involved in only two lawsuits over a span of more than 30 years, certainly not a "numerous legal battles."
Furthermore, the inclusion of such a sentence, especially in the introductory paragraph about the person, appears to be a trend aimed at discrediting and slandering him. It is crucial to recognize that any businessman, involved in various companies as an owner or partner, is exposed to legal disputes.
Does emphasizing this particular perspective align with the values attributed to every businessman? Does it not harm one's reputation?
I firmly believe that such a sentence has no place in the article and may have unintended consequences on Mr. Ahouvi's good name. I would appreciate hearing your opinion on this matter and discussing potential revisions to maintain accuracy and fairness in the representation of Igal Ahouvi.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
~~ Lev.daniel (talk) 22:36, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello, please know what you are asking citations of

I dont need a citation for Mike Adenuga being Yoruba, the proof is in the name and descent. Its like asking for citation on why rice is food. Also you there was a linage link already there that you could click to see he is Yoruba. But for next times sakes, the proof is already in the last name and sometimes first names. Lets be serious please. I was going through Patrice Motsepe (south african Billionare) and other pages which listed them as Venda and Tswana respectively with no sources. I know theyre Tswana by their last names. But you removed my fact because of your claim of not citing when the previous sentence has a link to his linage citation saying the same thing. Ive cited and added it, but to be clear, this should not be espected always. Researcherofgreatness (talk) 16:50, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you, Researcherofgreatness. If other editors remove uncited content then it is policy to only re-add such content with a suitable reference. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. I fixed your broken reference for Mike Adenuga; you should have simply repeated the one used for the previous sentence, per WP:REFNAME. As for Femi Otedola, you cannot use another Wikipedia article as a citation, so I have trimmed that cite. The rice analogy is a false equivalence. You might know that certain surnames are Yoruba surnames, but most people outside Nigeria will not. Edwardx (talk) 19:06, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Nice but Yorubaland extends beyond Nigeria, its reach is Togo and Benin as well. Just saying. Researcherofgreatness (talk) 22:50, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

Igal Ahouvi

  ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  19:48, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

I have noticed that you made changes to the article about Igal Ahouvi citing "excessive COI whitewashing" as the grounds for your edits. I believe it is important to clarify that any modification to the article should be accompanied by a detailed explanation of the rationale behind it. Wikipedia's policies emphasize the significance of exercising caution when editing biographies of living individuals.

Rather than addressing each alteration individually, you chose to delete an editorial work that was carefully considered. The portrayal of Mr. Ahouvi, as it stands following my edits, still incorporates significant criticism of his actions and career. The passages that were removed only pertained to inaccuracies and baseless allegations against him.

I would like to extend an invitation for you to review the corrections I have made and restore the article to its original state. Despite any differences in opinion, I would appreciate if we could engage a qualified mediator from Wikipedia to help resolve our dispute. It is evident that the current representation, which includes slanderous and unsubstantiated claims, tarnishes the reputation of Igal Ahouvi.

Thank you, Lev.daniel. I notice that Igal Ahouvi is more or less the only article you have edited, and accordingly left a conflict of interest (COI) notification on your talkpage. Would you like to address that possible COI please? Edwardx (talk) 20:57, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
