Edit summaries[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. NickelShoe (Talk) 21:10, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Von Möllendorf[edit]

An editor has nominated Von Möllendorf, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Von Möllendorf and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. AfD nomination of Dietrich Man[edit]

Dietrich Man, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Dietrich Man satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dietrich Man and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Dietrich Man during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 04:56, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a source for him, but if you've got a source for the info you put into the article it'd help save it from AfD if you added it now. Nick mallory 13:52, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and Dietrich Man[edit]

I just noticed you haven't been properly welcomed. So here's our standard boilerplate welcome:

Welcome!

Hello, Edwin Hale, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!  Kusma (talk) 19:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the deletion nomination of Dietrich Man above: I just searched for some sources and references for the story, and learned some interesting things (like the existence of a bishopric of Havelberg). I was able to verify his time as a bishop, but couldn't find out anything about his family. Could you help out a bit and tell us and cite your sources? Thank you, and thank you for writing these articles! Kusma (talk) 19:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you try to add your source to a ==References== section in the articles? (You may want to follow the citation guideline WP:CITE). I found the book you mentioned in the catalog of the German National Library; the German Wikipedia even has an article about the author, de:Oskar Pusch (Genealoge). For the articles where you have used the book, can you add a References section that contains something like

*Pusch, Oskar: ''von Below''. Dortmund : Forschungsstelle Ostmitteleuropa im Lande Nordrhein-Westfalen 1974. {{de icon}} which will produce

  • Pusch, Oskar: von Below. Dortmund : Forschungsstelle Ostmitteleuropa im Lande Nordrhein-Westfalen 1974. (in German)

(unfortunately I can't find an ISBN for the book). That makes it easier for others to verify your research, and helps other editors who want to do more research on the topic. Thank you, and happy editing! Kusma (talk) 11:22, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History of Grabow[edit]

There are two Grabows. The one in Saxony-Anhalt was in the diocese of Magdeburg. From here, colonists came to what was then the Prignitz, and created a new Grabow. This was then lost to Mecklenburg.Edwin Hale 09:29, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You recently edited the history section of Grabow. Are you sure you had the right one? The mention of Magdeburg makes me think of Grabow, Saxony-Anhalt. Agathoclea 12:28, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Joachim Christian von Blumenthal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Steve Crossin (talk) 04:05, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Joachim Christian von Blumenthal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Steve Crossin (talk) 04:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Loncross Denholm Press, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Loncross Denholm Press and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Drilnoth (talk) 20:32, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Count Leonhardt von Blumenthal.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Count Leonhardt von Blumenthal.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 10:05, 12 August 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:05, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Joachim Christian von Blumenthal[edit]

The article had previously been deleted by Seicer and I deleted it again as recreation of deleted material. (Sorry, I might have not been clear enough in the deletion description.) You would be best off talking with him about its notability; I was simply performing routine deletions of the time.   JJ (talk) 18:11, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation[edit]

Thank you for your recent submission to Articles for Creation. Your article submission has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. Please view your submission to see the comments left by the reviewer. You are welcome to edit the submission to address the issues raised, and resubmit once you feel they have been resolved.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! Shearonink (talk) 18:40, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Gans zu Puttlitz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability, no references

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:15, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good Man[edit]

They had to remove a lot of the things you put into Brit views of the Monarchy, and while I would quibble about some of the removals the vast majority was entirely fair, due to Wikipedia policy.

However, I personally do not have to adhere to having a "neutral" point of view. I can instead have a "correct" point of view, and I would like to commend you on trying to clarify things - you were absolutely correct in putting everything into context. It is such a shame that Wikipedia cannot reflect this.

Having said that, the alternative is far worse, then you end up with something like Conservapedia, which is essentially what Wikipedia would look like if controlled by paranoid schizophrenics.

So... all in all... don't do that again here, but please know that your views are absolutely fair and reasonable, and are shared by a great number of other editors.

Disambiguation link notification for August 30[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Arneburg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gilder (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David Munir requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Ways to improve Joachim von Blumenthal[edit]

Hi, I'm Stifle. Edwin Hale, thanks for creating Joachim von Blumenthal!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please make sure you use English words throughout and our house style for dates.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Edwin Hale (talk) 21:43, 2 February 2013 (UTC) I hope I am following the etiquette properly. Thanks for the comment on my entry on "Joachim von Blumenthal". It is mostly a translation of an entry in German Wikipedia on the same guy, the entry is called "Joachim Christian von Blumenthal".[reply]

This guy was basicly Prussia's finance and War minister at the time the Napoleonic Wars broke out and is thus a very important personage.

That's fine, but please can you edit it to translate the remaining German words such as "am" and "und" into English, and use the date style 2 October 1749 rather than 2. Oktober 1749. Stifle (talk) 21:47, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your article submission Von Grabow family[edit]

Hello Edwin Hale. It has been over six months since you last edited your article submission, entitled Von Grabow family.

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Von Grabow family}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 18:02, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Team Secret[edit]

Hello Edwin Hale,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Team Secret for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
