AfD for Under the Lights III

EJ, please see my change of !vote: diff. I don't think there's any content left that's still worth merging to the 2014 season articles for Michigan and Penn State. You may want to consider changing your !vote to make this easier on the closing administrator. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:39, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Is it possible to remove redirects?

I am hoping to build the remaining softball team pages for the Southland Conference softball teams without one. Of the remaining ones, I noticed there are some redirects to at least some of the pages. Just checking to see if it would be possible to clear the redirect. The first page I was going to work on is the Lamar Lady Cardinals softball team. I've built a navbox, a category, and some of the other items. I've also created a page for the new stadium which is being constructed. I was also planning on building yearly pages. I think the data would be a little bulky for a redirect to a section. Thanks!!!LUSportsFan (talk) 21:45, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Well said . . . .

EJ, while I was reviewing old AfD discussions regarding stand-alone articles for regular season CFB games, I came across Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Under the Lights II, including this diff by you. Your paragraph is a well articulated statement regarding WP:CFB's position regarding stand-alone articles for regular season games, one of the better ones I have read.

We currently have 17 pending AfDs regarding regular season CFB games (see list on the WP:CFB talk page). If, as I expect, the outcome of these AfDs is consistent with the current !voting trends, all 17 will be deleted, redirected or merged next Tuesday or Wednesday. If that happens, I plan to submit another 10-15 single-game CFB articles (in manageable batches of five) for AfD over the next couple of weeks. It has been suggested on the WP:NSPORTS talk page that this single-game issue has been percolating across several of the sports WikiProjects for some time, and clarifications need to be made to WP:NSPORTS, WP:SPORTSEVENT, WP:ROUTINE, WP:GNG and several other notability guidelines where sports events and sports coverage are mentioned. That needs to happen, but I think we also need to memorialize our own thinking regarding regular season game articles within the WP:CFB project, and incorporate it into our own project guidelines for future ease of reference. I think your statement linked above would be a good start for our internal guideline on point. Using your statement as a starting point, would you like to take a crack at writing a paragraph or two that set forth a new explicit WP:CFB guideline on point, perhaps using a sandbox subpage where we can tinker with it? Please let me know. (I have your talk page watch-listed.) Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 12:56, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, Dirtlawyer. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. As you can see from this comment ([1]), my main objection to these individual game articles is that since they are really just regular season football games, so, unless there was something truly outstanding or historic about the game in question, they basically just duplicate the information that it is (or ought to be) in the WP:CFB season articles. As far as writing out some sort of expanded statement, frankly, I really don't have time to do it right now, but if you want to take my paragraph from last year and expand it, please feel free to do so, and I'd be glad to throw in my quick two cents worth of feedback. Thanks, Ejgreen77 (talk) 03:48, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey

Hey, EJ. I was getting advice and some help from admin Deor. He knows AfD and deletion policy well, but he's also still relatively new, so he's not going to push the envelope on the guidelines as he understands them. He was trying to be helpful, and your last comment on his talk page was a little bit sassy. You may want to delete that last part about "bureaucracy"; no reason to alienate someone who was trying to be helpful. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:41, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

There, I fixed it! In all seriousness, DL, I'm sorry for wading into a private conversation (though you did post a link to it on the CFB talk page). Heck, next time, I'll just keep my oar out, and my mouth shut! Ejgreen77 (talk) 00:02, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
