College colors module
EJ, I don't know whether this was intended to be funny or not [1], but the point is this: now that we are consolidating all of our college team colors into one place -- the module -- and tying the colors for every infobox, navbox and table for college sports programs, teams and athletes to the module, the module affects hundreds if not thousands of college sports articles. We are past the point when one or two users may tinker with our team colors without reliable sources and without scrutiny and confirmation by our fellow editors. Corky has done commendable work in bringing some manner of order to the module, but one editor continues to resist any effort that requires him to provide a source for his changes and additions to the module. That's unacceptable, and I would hope, as a matter of common sense, that you would understand that. If you aren't aware of the history of vandalism, edit-warring and sock-puppetry involving college team colors, please feel free to consult with Johnin DC, Jrcla2, Jweiss11 and Rikster2, who have been in forefront of dealing with this nonsense over the past 6+ years. - @Dirtlawyer1: I'm well aware of the history here, heck, I'm the one who suggested that the module be locked down in the first place. My point was that whatever went down between you and Joey, it resulted in both Template:Charleston Southern Buccaneers football navbox and Template:Southern Jaguars football navbox displaying incorrect colors, namely a gray background with a black border and text (FYI, black and gray are nowhere to be found on either of those two teams' color palettes). I was just bringing it up in the hope that someone would do the necessary cleanup work, which Corky was nice enough to come along and do. I haven't made any edits to the actual module myself, so I'm not really familiar with the process there, otherwise I would have taken care of cleaning it up myself. - FYI, "grey and black" are the default colors for all college sports infoboxes that do not have sourced team colors. Equating both Joeykai and me as "squabblers" is, to be polite, problematic. Joey failed to acknowledge user talk page requests that he provide reliable sources for his changes to the module, let alone provide the requested sources. That's not acceptable, but it certainly demonstrates why a lock-down of the module at the level of template protection is a good idea. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 07:25, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not interested in the politics of the whole thing, just in getting it right. And, IMHO, nothing is worse than the gray and black because it's a 100% inaccurate representation of the team colors. At any rate, it's fixed now, and like I said, I can't really see myself getting involved in editing this thing in the near future, especially with all of the stupid drama swirling around it right now. - EJ, the "drama" is Joey does not want to comply with the evolving procedures. Black and grey is what we use for 100% of our college coach infoboxes: it's neutral, not 100% inaccurate. No source, no colors. In case you're not aware of it, we have other editors who want to remove all colors from all team and athlete infoboxes when they're not reliably sourced; that's the "politics". If Joey cannot find reliable sources, he should request help and not put the burden on others to clean up after him. You need to stop implicitly defending Joey's bad behavior, EJ. It undermines the project, module security, proper procedures, and proper sourcing. If you think what I'm doing and what Joey is doing are equivalent, you've missed the point entirely. - Oh, for corn's sake!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not "defending" anyone or anything, I was just trying to help the stupid colors on those two navboxes to have some semblance of accuracy! Next time I'll just leave the inaccurate crap up and let someone else deal with it when they finally get around to noticing it's all messed up six months down the road.
