reply about msg in re: Agri Decumates

Hi Ekki:

I've never seen it spelled any other way than "Agri Decumates." This includes sources from Gibbon to Michael Grant (as I'm sure you know, he's the world's leading Classicist, especially on the subject of Classical numismatics).

This is the first article I've ever contributed to wikipedia on my own. I've edited and expanding a number of other articles, but this is my "maiden" voyage, so to speak.

If you've come across newer research than I have available to me--my sources say little is known about this very small province except for fragmentary references, esp in Tacitus; it's strategic value for the protection of Gaul, or even from an end run around the Illyrian defenses into Italy, said defenses being the most formidable of the Western Empire--then, of course, it should be added.

Or if you feel that I have not adequately covered what little material is available, then I look forward to working with you to improve it.

While I am happy to have finally contributed my first full article to the project, I don't feel proprietary about it. (OK, I feel a little proprietary about it, ;o)

The goal should always be to provide the most comprehensive and complete information on all subjects.

Finally, since this is my first article, I don't know how the process of merging generally works. More information on how it's generally done would be greatly appreciated. (Pls excuse my typing; I am somewhat dyslexic and don't always catch every error.)

reply 2: Agri Decumates

Ekki:

The spelling, or, rather, the capitalization is not a really big deal for me. Since you're familiar with this province, you're obviously quite familiar with Roman history; thus you know that there are a lot of spelling variations for various ancient names.

Embarassing as this, I'm not sure where your article is! I'll look for it again, but if you paste a link in your reply to me that would be excellent.

I don't have any problem with merging the articles. I admit I'd prefer to have it be "my baby" but I know that's not how wikipedia works. And I really wouldn't want people to be able to "own" articles (i.e. lock them down or something). wikipedia's got a lot of flaws, but the ability for users to improve, correct articles or rewrite badly written ones (as I've done) is one of it's best features.

You've only been at this for two months?! I'm really surprised. Your personal page (I'm not sure what wikipedia calls them) is very, very detailed. I expected you to be a vet, someone who'd been doing it for years. I go back to May of '05 but that's kind of misleading since I haven't been constantly active for all that time. There are big gaps when other things in my life were taking up my time.

I'm glad to find another scholar with a deep interest in Rome. I hope that, in the future, we can possibly collaborate on other articles. There are probably a lot of articles we could write about various Roman subjects that haven't been covered.

If this idea appeals to you, we should probably exchange email addresses. Or you can put one of yours on my discussion page.

The "marquee" subjects all have articles (e.g. the army, Caesar, Augustus, etc). But even tho' history knows so little about Rome, it's still a vast field with a large amount of interesting subjects--so much was lost during the Middle Ages and during the sack of Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade in 1204, to digress: I find it fascinating the doors from Hagia Sophia (I believe) still adorn St. Mark's in Venice all these centuries later).

In summation, as the lawyers say, I reiterate, I'm glad to find another Rome enthusiast and I hope we can work together to put up more articles on both Republican and Imperial Rome. PainMan 03:53, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Agri Decumates is a region of the Roman Empire, covering the Black Forest area between the Main river and the sources of Danube and Rhine rivers, presently in southwestern Germany. It was part of both the province of Raetia and the province of Germania Superior.

The only ancient reference to the name comes from Roman historian Tacitus who in his book Germania used the term Agri Decumates or decumates agri (Latin for Tenth Land) to denote the area beyond (that is, either to the east or to the north) of the rivers Rhine and Danube. The origin and meaning of the name is disputed. It may either refer to an unknown place-name Decuma or Decumum or to the fact that the region was obliged to pay tribute to the emperor by handing over a tenth of its produce. Another possibility is that, prior to Roman occupation, the area was inhabited by a tribe which divided the area into 10 cantons. According tp Michael Grant, the name refers to an ancient Celtic term, the precise meaning of which has been lost.

According to Tacitus, the region had originally been populated by the Celtic tribe of the Helvetii but soon Germanic Suebi settled there before migrating, around 9 BCE to Boiohaemum, modern day Bohemia. After the latter's departure, the area was again inhabited by Gauls. Later on, the region was to become part of the Roman Empire.

Non numeraverim inter Germaniae populos, quamquam trans Rhenum Danuviumque consederint, eos qui decumates agros exercent: levissimus quisque Gallorum et inopia audax dubiae possessionis solum occupavere; mox limite acto promotisque praesidiis sinus imperii et pars provinciae habentur. [1]
"Even though they live beyond the river Rhine and the river Danube, I would not count the inhabitants of the Tenth Land among the peoples of Germania. Careless Gauls, having become brave due to necessity, occupied the land without having any legitimate claim. Since soon afterwards a border-wall was built and fortresses were erected, it is considered to be a bulge of the Empire and part of the province."

The military occupation during the reign of Emperor Vespasian (69-79 CE) laid the foundations for Roman settlement and colonization in the region. Under Emperor Domitian, a network of roads was built covering the whole of the territory. The system of roads enabled the autorities to control and safeguard the area, easing communications between the legions stationed on the river Danube and the Rhine by shortening the Roman defenses in the area: frontier fortifications were constructed between modern Reinbohl and Pförring.

The major places of Roman settlement were Sumolecenna, Civitas Aurelia Aquensis, Lopodunum und Arae Flaviae.

The region flourished during the next two centuries in spite of periods of unrest: around 185/186, a revolt against Roman authority took place, mainly directed against the presence of the Roman military in Argentorate.

The first devastating incursion of the Alamanni occurred in 233. After 259, they began to occupy the region.

The Romans controlled the province until the latter half of the 3rd century, when it was evacuated by the emperor Gallienus (259-260) in the face of invading Germans of the Alamanni tribe and the secession of much of the Western Empire under the regional emperor Postumus.

The area may have been briefly reoccupied under the Emperor Aurelian (270-275), during the Roman military resurgence of the late 3rd century CE. Even if this did occur, the re-establishment of Roman rule was brief. After the death of Emperor Probus (282), the area was finally given up and left to the Alamanni. The territory has remained inhabited by people of Germanic descent continuously to this day.

However, Roman settlements were not immediately abandoned. There is evidence of continuity of Roman life well into the 5th century.

Merger of our Agri Decumates articles

I have to say yours is much more comprehensive than mine.

I have no problem with the merger.

>>I would ask for only some small changes.<<

The name probably refers to a pre-Roman occupation by a tribe which divided the area into 10 cantons, and most likely, according to historian Michael Grant, translates an ancient Celtic term, the precise meaning of which has been lost.

I'd like Michael Grant's name re-inserted into the sentence about the probable origin of decumates; it's not so much that I think your rewrite needs rewriting. I'd just like to see Prof. Grant's name in the text since he is the world's leading Classicist.

Lastly, I'd like to see the last, bolded part of this sentence integrated:

It has been suggested that the Roman briefly reoccupied the area under the Emperor Aurelian (270-275), during the Roman military resurgence of the late 3rd century CE. Even if this did occur, the re-establishment of Roman rule was brief; the territory has remained inhabited by people of German descent continuously to this day.

It doesn't contradict the statement that some Roman patterns of life remained until the 5th century CE. Long before the collapse in the West, cultural fusion between Rome and "Germania" had been going on for centuries. (The cultural fusion between Romanized Celt and Germanic tribes continued, as I'm sure you're aware, know for centuries. It probably wasn't complete until the 8th/9th centuries CE. If you haven't read Henri Pirenne's Economic and Social History of Europe, it's an absolute MUST read for any student of Medieval history.)

You're obviously an excellent writer as well as researcher. My sources didn't go into this much detail. Grant's article in the guide to ancient place names isn't nearly this detailed. On the other hand, he's covering thousands and thousands of places.

Bottom line: you've definitely improved the article. And, with the integration of what I hope you'll agree are small but important changes, they can be merged.

This is the first time I've ever collaborated with anyone (as well as my first article). And it's been a good experience. As I said before, let me know if you'd like to collaborate on other articles, whether on Rome or other historical subjects (history is one of my passions).

PainMan 06:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Hoi Ekki01 (ik was vergeten dat je ook Nederlands spreekt!)
The merged article looks great. Following up on your comment on Talk:Agri decumates, it is true that you're supposed to wait two weeks. However, this merging is totally non-controversial and all contributors are in agreement, so I see no need to wait.
I only have some very minor improvements to offer:
* There is a problem with the Celtic link
* In the quote, legitimate is misspelled as "legitmate"
* You don't need to link a term more than once, the first time it appears in the text, e.g. you should link Danube in the first paragraph but you don't need to do so anywhere else in the text.

Take care, Jvhertum 18:41, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Geen probleem.  ;-)

In that case I may start tonight. First I'll have a look at the problems you mentioned. I know that I have a tendency to over-link articles. I am trying my best to restrain myself but sometimes without success. Therefore, feel free to delete these links. Groetjes Ekki01 14:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Merged them. Ekki01 18:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I will add the exact reference as requested to avoid the pedantic <<fact>> tag.

Thanks for going ahead and merging the articles.

is vs. are

G'day over there. I need to know something so I looked up a random user with en-5, and ended here. Please consider the following examples:

The Beatles is the best band ever.
or
The Beatles are the best band ever.

I'd say "is" was the right word here since the sentence is about the band being the best band ever as a whole, a group. People have been arguing a lot about this matter. Whether to say "is" or "are" in similar cases. One user said that according to British English, "is" is right in this case but I doubt that it differs in UK and USA English. Good times! --Stefán Örvarr Sigmundsson 03:41, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Good morning. You can use either. It all depends on emphasis. The singular stresses the non-personal collectivity of the group and the plural the personal individuality within the group. However, since Beatles is a plural noun, I would still go for "are" or, if I really wanted to use the singular, form a construction like "the band, The Beatles, is ..." Ekki01 09:04, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. This was just a random example. But with the band Muse, "is" would be right, if there is no special emphasis, and, since "Muse" is a singular noun? --Stefán Örvarr Sigmundsson 09:51, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
My gut feeling still would say "are." Ekki01 17:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Do you think there's any difference between UK and USA in this matter? --Stefán Örvarr Sigmundsson 03:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ekk01. I noticed that you were removing the autoformatting for the years on full dates in the Olmert article. Army aviation

I've noticed you've been adding a rather lengthy list of world army air arms to several such articles. This got me thinking that perhaps it's time to create a dedicated article on the subject, where we can also list those article, saving space in the national articles. There is a category at Category:Army aviation, so I think Army aviation (this currently redirects to Military aviation) is a good title. Any comments or ideas? Perhaps there's a simliar article on one of the interwikis that can be translated as a starting point, or used for sources. - BillCJ (talk) 20:51, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Sounds like a good idea to me. The one I am most familiar with is the one on Army Aviation on the German wikipedia(de:wikipedia:Heeresflieger). Although it is mostly concerned with the German Army Aviators Corps, it, as well as the other ones in the category you mentioned, does contain some general information which could be used to start a new article on Army Aviation. And from then on, only the sky's the limit. However, at the mo I don't have that much time to begin the work but I promise to do so at the end of March. Cheers. Ekki01 (talk) 17:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Rating of Walchensee

Howdy! Thank you for your recent rating of the article Walchensee. Unfortunately you did not leave any comments as to why you rated it a start and what could stand improving. I find it interesting that the corresponding German article, of which this is a translation, was added to the list of exzellenter Artikel. (Please do not take this as a criticism of your rating. I only find it interesting the difference in the quality requirements between the English and German Wikipedias. For instance I have noticed that the German Wikipedia community does not demand references the same way the English Wikipedia community does.) During my translation of the article I came across a number of places where I would have done the article differently, had I done it myself. I would be curious to know what you would have wanted in order to give the article a higher rating. Thanks in advance for your comments. --imars (talk) 06:01, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Imars. When rating the article, I must admit I was on the verge of giving it a B. It does indeed fulfill most of the criteria which would make it a B but fell short of one, namely citations. If you have a look on WPGermany's qualitiy scale here you'll find that one of the requirements for a B is that the article is suitably referenced, and all major points are appropriately cited. I interpret this as a requirement for inline citations. I know that this is tricky when translating articles from another wikipedia (I have done so on many occassions myself) but what I usually do, if possible, in such a case is I simply use the same citations as in the orignal wikipedia's article or, alternatively, try to find at least something reliable on the internet. Or give up on citations. Perhaps my interpretation of this requirement is too stringent and I do not mind at all to be corrected.
I know that the criteria on the German Wikipedia are different. There, I have come across quite strong opposition to inline citations.
Furthermore, when coming across a number of places where I would have done the article differently there is no reason why you shouldn't have done and, what is more, you still can. Most of the time when translating articles from one language into another, I use the original as a base and a source of information and more often than not structure the translated article differently.
Hope this clears things up a bit. Cheers, Ekki01 (talk) 16:30, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi Ekki01. I do not like to include the citations/reference from the original article as these are unreliable or heresay unless one checks the source themself. That's why I leave the only reference as the translation link. But as you say there is nothing that stops us from improving the article. I'll see what I can do. Thanks very much for your reply! imars (talk) 06:37, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

You are right, of course. One should only include citations/references that one regards as coming from a reliable source. Cheers, Ekki01 (talk) 15:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Abbreviations

Ekki01, hi, I appreciate that you are doing a lot of rapid-fire article assessment. However, just a suggestion, perhaps you could find a better edit summary than "ass"? :) --Elonka 18:26, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Mmmh. I never thought about that. I thought adding a full stop made it obvious that it's an abbreviation. I certainly do not have any intentions to imply that the Wikiproject Germany was in any way asinine. I will think of something else for the last 61 articles. Ekki01 (talk) 18:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
    • I understand your summaries were in good faith. :) And no big deal, I just wanted to point out that it was a bit startling to see that particular edit summary show up on my watchlist. My first impulse was, "Hmm, vandalism?" And then I saw what you were actually doing, heh. Keep up the good work! --Elonka 19:10, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
No prob. I understand that an edit summary ending in "ass" (even with a full stop) can be ambiguous. :-) Cheers. Ekki01 (talk) 19:14, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Bethmann family

Thank you for stopping by to assign a rating to Bethmann family. I appreciate your input. If you can find the time, perhaps you could let me know what areas should improve in order to earn the article a higher quality rating (apart from the To-Do list already on the article's Talk page)?--Goodmorningworld (talk) 20:35, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Assess. of Herbert Weichmann

Hi there, it's me again. Don't you think a minister-president should be rated high (inclusion in printed edition, very notable within Germany) not midium? Minister-presidents are—if President of the Bundesrat—the third man in Germany. Greetings and happy editing. Sebastian scha. (talk) 21:49, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

In principle yes. However, he was mayor of Hamburg from 1965 to 1971, roughly 30 years ago, and importance wanes in the course of time. The presidency of the Bundesrat rotates on an annual basis so there have been about 60 "third" men since 1949. And each was only the "third" man, so less important than the first or the second. Also I am not sure of the notability within Germany; within Hamburg perhaps but I do have my doubts regarding nationwide. However, if you don't agree with my evaluation, feel free to change it. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 09:01, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
It's okay. I just thought, they -- the minister-presidents -- are more important, but now -- compared to governors of Illinois -- the rating is okay. Greetings. Sebastian scha. (talk) 14:19, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Removal of links from image captions

I'm just curious as to the rationale behind your edit here where you removed a link from an image caption. Is this based on the general guideline on overlinking, or is there a specific guideline addressing links in images. Links in images are quite common in military and avitation related articles, but I've not really been a proponent of that. If there is a specific guideline, then that would be good to be able to cite. If not, then if the overlinking guidelines are being used to remove image caption links WP-wide, then that would give me enough precedent to start removing some as I encounter them. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 17:31, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi BillCJ. My rationale behind removing the link in the aforementioned article was that, in my opinion, it does indeed constitute overlinking. I've noticed that it is quite common (not only in military and aviation related articles). As to an official guideline, I cannot answer that right now. I do seem to remember reading something somewhere quite some time ago but I cannot now recollect exactly where. Sorry that this not much help but perhaps if you asked at the village pump or something similar they can direct you to a page with the respective guideline. Alternatively, if you give me some time (more than a couple of days) I can dig for it. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 17:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Ekki01, you may or may not notice the translation request on the talk page that you recently accessed for the German project, but if you're interested in the subject, could you help expanding the article? Thanks.--Caspian blue (talk) 18:11, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I may if I find some time. Right now I am involved in another mega job (well, for me anyway). But thanks for thinking of me anyway.  :-) Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 18:21, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the answer. Since you're German, I tried to ask you the favor. :) Keep up the good work for your project! Regards.--Caspian blue (talk) 18:25, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

STTWbot

Hi Ekki01! I have a bot which does WP:FR and WP:GER related tagging. If you need help on some automated tagging, it could be of some help to you. cheers. --STTW (talk) 18:01, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi STTW. Actually, I am reviewing the classifications of Wikiproject Germany's old "new article announcements," particularly the ones originally classified as stubs. Most of them have never been reviewed. Some of these articles have not got even a WPGermany tag. I suppose that's how you noticed me. I don't know whether your bot can help with this as I reckon the classification itself has to be done manually. But just out of curiosity, how does your bot work exactly? Cheers,--Ekki01 (talk) 18:10, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
An example would be : The bot looks for Germany related article, if it has any stub template then it adds {{WikiProject Germany|class=stub|importance=}} otherwise {{WikiProject Germany|class=|importance=}} to its talk page. --STTW (talk) 18:30, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Would it be possible to run the bot without it adding the stub classification even though it has already been classified as one by another project? Basically just adding the WPGermany tag without any qualifications? --Ekki01 (talk) 19:06, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is possible. --STTW (talk) 19:14, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Good. And how can it be run? I have no experience in that respect, none whatsoever. --Ekki01 (talk) 19:27, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Let me know the task and I can get it done for you. In case you wish to have a bot of your own then read first WP:AWB and WP:BOT. cheers --STTW (talk) 17:45, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
If you run your bot for tagging articles merely with the WPGermany tag without any classification I'd be grateful. And thanks for the link. I will definitely have a look at it. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 18:10, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hi, I am bugboy52.4, I do a lot of work about insects (obviously) and I would like to contribute to the gothic wikipedia, which is actually interesting because I thought Gothic was an extinct langauge, but where can I learn to speeck it, or even contribute about scientific body parts?

P.S. If you can, please answer me on talk, so I don't to keep comming back here to see if you replied Bugboy52.40 03:34, 9 Kaldmenoþs 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, mate. As mentioned above, a question placed here, will be replied to here.
Gothic is indeed an extinct language, i.e., it is not spoken anymore. Therefore, I am not sure if there is a place where you can learn how to "speak" it. Yet you can learn its grammar, vocabulary etc. As a starter I recommend Wright's Grammar of the Gothic Language. Once you've mastered that you can try to begin to contribute, if you are still thus inclined, to the Gothic Wikipedia. Personally, I cannot see the benefit of Wikipediae in dead languages (with the exception of the Latin one perhaps).
However, I wouldn't have the foggiest how you would, or indeed could, translate scientific, biological terms and terminology into Gothic. On the other hand, why not have a go ... Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 20:30, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

P class cruiser

Hi, Ekki01. I noticed you assessed P class cruiser as "Start", with the explanation that it lacks citations and supporting materials. I wanted to point out that every paragraph is cited entirely to Gröner's book; there isn't anything in the article that isn't cited. I'm wondering what you think is insufficient about the citations. Thanks for any clarification. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 12:06, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Parsecboy. I used the word "dearth" in the meaning of "too little" not as in "lack." Of course I realised that there were proper references but I also noticed that there were coming from only one source. For that reason and for the fact that, apart from the infobox, there is no supporting material I rated the article as start. However, if you do not agree, do feel free to change it. Cheers --Ekki01 (talk) 16:36, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi!

Could you kindly explain to me what "nested=yes" means in the WP tags? Thanks. --Againme (talk) 05:27, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

German Peasants' War

Ekki, this article was original Peasants' War and in sad shape, little about the war, a lot about Marx and Engels interpretation of the war. This is the one. Will you help? Auntieruth55 (talk) 01:43, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

I would love to but this article needs a mega major, major overhaul (actually a complete rewrite) and I do not have the time and energy at the moment, nor, more importantly, do I have the relevant primary and secondary sources available, to start to write even a draft of a proper article. The article on the German wikipedia has no inline citations so a translation of that one would immediately cause concern with the "everything has to be referenced"-section of editors. I would support a renaming of the article as it is now though as was suggested by you and Teeinvestor in November. Sorry that I can't be of more help. --Ekki01 (talk) 18:18, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm working on this one German Peasants' War which is not the same as the original one...I agree that one is in such sad shape I'm not sure it could, or should, be salvaged!! It has the citation problem, which someone seems to be addressing, but it also has POV issues, and should be better entitled Marxist interpretation of the Causes of the German Peasants' War. Will you help with the one I started last week? It's just a straightforward war article. Auntieruth55 (talk) 19:39, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Where can I find it?
BTW, funnily enough, I am struggling at the moment with the translation and wikifying et al. of an article about one of the protagonists of the peasants' war in Upper Swabia, the Baltringer Haufen (call it microhistory). I hope to be able to finish it this weekend but don't know yet. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 19:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Whoops, mea culpa. Found it. Good start. Looks very much like a major project. I will have a read through tomorrow if you don't mind. Cheers --Ekki01 (talk) 19:53, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Sure.  :) Seems to me it needs to be done. Whatever happens to the Peasants' War it is not neutral, and it is not broad in coverage; it will need retitling eventually, but whoever is working on it now (and it is undergoing some modification) can figure that out. I hope you'll help. My German is good, but of course nothing like yours. I can't imagine why this war has no reasonable coverage yet. It's extremely important. Following the damage to Royal Netherlands Air Force/301 Squadron AH-64D Q-01 in a wire strike near Vlijmen, repairs initially got under way at Gilze-Rijen. The Apache was then moved to the US army facility at Coleman Barracks, Germany for completion and some systems upgrades. It returned into service with 301 Squadron in January 2010

The Royal Netherlands Air Force has 30 AH-64 in service, not 29. Airforces Monthly July 2010 page 88 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fection (talkcontribs) 15:50, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Greetings,

Fine. I won't squabble about such a minor issue. I got the 29 from the official website of the Dutch Air Force. There it actually says that the last of the batch of 30 was delivered in May 2002. Subsequently, one crashed in Afghanistan in 2004.(see here) It says nothing about it having been repaired. If you're of the opinion that Airforces Monthly is a more reliable source than the Dutch Airforce feel free to put the 30 back in and cite your source.
Also, if you want to take this issue further I suggest to post it on the talk page of the article where it belongs and not on various users' talk pages. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 17:40, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Beter Bed logos

I've removed the logos from Beter_Bed#Assets, as the use of logos in such an iconicized small form fails WP:NFCC #8, and the use of logos in a table like this is strongly discouraged per WP:NFG. This has resulted in the logos being orphaned, making them subject to deletion. Please do NOT restore them to the article. If you have questions, ask. German literature WPG importance assessment

Hi Ekki01,

I'd be interested to hear why you think the article on German Literature only warrants mid-importance on WPGer's importance scale. I would actually vote for top-importance myself, for the reasons given on the article's talk page. Sindinero (talk) 17:27, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Sindinero, the topic itself does merit a high or even top importance rating but since the article is in the state it is (at some point I was thinking of giving it list-status), I thought mid should suffice. However, if you want to give it top-importance, feel free to do so. No problem whatsoever. Cheers, --Ekki01 (talk) 17:37, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Ekki01. Thanks for the clarification. Personally, I feel that importance should be assessed independently of quality - maybe the glaring fact of a top-importance article in such weak shape will spur people to improve it. I hope to be able to spend some time working on this article myself, in the foreseeable future. Thanks again! Sindinero (talk) 18:42, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Sindinero, good luck with it. --Ekki01 (talk) 18:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Feldflugplatz Freifeld

From here [4] Greetings Bene16--Bene16 (talk) 06:55, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Merci.

Oscar Ameringer

Hi, So I have been reviewing sources and have found a bit of a grey area on the birthplace of Oscar Ameringer. The American Labor Who's Who lists his birthplace as Achstetten, The Encyclopedia of the American Left lists it simply as Bavaria, The Biographical Dictionary of the American Left lists his birthplace as Laupheim, and his autobiography seems to claim that he was born on the road to Achstetten, but not necessarily in Achstteten, and moved to Laupheim as at six. I think with that in mind, Achstetten is probably the most likely place of birth and I wouldn't be upset at all if he was deleted from the Laupheim page, but you understand my confusion right?

169.232.212.19 (talk) 17:57, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Camrowland91 (talk)

Yes, I completely understand your confusion. I am puzzled as well. However, the Bavarian reference we can discount completely. That's plainly wrong. There is no Achstetten in Bavaria or was in 1870. The road to Achstetten reference, I find quite intriguing. Having some familiarity with the history and historical layout of both Laupheim and Achstetten, at the time the road to Achstetten was in the town of Laupheim itself, part of the old imperial road leading from Ulm to what is now Friedrichshafen via Biberach and Ravensburg. This is now called Ulmer Straße (Ulm Road). There is a chapel on this road at what used to be the end of the built-up area. From there another road branches off towards the centre of Laupheim. This was a partly built-up area with predominantly Jewish residents. Between the chapel and the actual village of Achstetten there were, to my knowledge, no dwelling places. Also , having found this [5] (p. 3), the man himself says that he was born in Achstetten, and later on indeed reports that his family moved to Laupheim when he was six.
If you don't mind I will move Oskar (or Oscar) fom Laupheim to Achstetten.--Ekki01 (talk) 18:46, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I think that's probably best. Also, I am currently writing a basic entry for Ameringer for a history class right now and will be creating a page for him in the next couple of days. I would love to have your help in finding sources (I have a few books and two encyclopedias), especially online, and feedback on my article. Thanks. Camrowland91 (talk) 18:55, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

I've moved the entry to Achstetten.
Concerning sources, if you're close to a university library (which I am not) they may have some material on Ameringer; your local library may even have a copy of his autobiography or can get hold of one. I've had a brief look on the internet for German references but there aren't any usueful ones. This is rather not surprising since Ameringer is virtually unknown in Germany and certainly no one has heard of him in Achstetten or Laupheim.--Ekki01 (talk) 19:14, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Solo Display Team

The article Solo Display Team has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Individual display aircraft are fairly common and rarely notable, most large air forces have solo display aircraft which can be dealt with using a one line summary in the air force article although they are mostly not notable enough to even mention there.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. MilborneOne (talk) 18:21, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Nomination of Solo Display Team for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Solo Display Team is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Solo Display Team until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. MilborneOne (talk) 15:52, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Updates to the BV page in German

Hi Ekki01, I saw you're one of the few proficient editors of German and English, and I'm reaching out because of your expertise in both languages. The German Bottega Veneta page is out of date compared to the English one, and I'm trying to ensure that there’s the same depth of information available on the German Wiki as there is for English. I’ve been working with BV on improving and expanding their English article, and I'm looking for community members to help update the German article with some changes proposed in this SandboxDE. Would you mind taking a look to see if the translation is accurate and suitable for integrating into German Wikipedia? Chefmikesf (talk) 23:05, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The article Wilhelm Krüger has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

It appears that this is a fake article, because that person never existed : he was confused with Friedrich-Wilhelm Krüger at the time of his creation. It has just been deleted from French Wikipedia where it had been copied from English Wikipedia. Please see that discussion page : [6]. Best regards. Gkml

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Unimog 70200

Hello Ekki01,

I've seen that you've updated the Unimog 70200's assessment, but I wonder why you'd "only" rate it a start-class article. I reckon it meets the C-class criteria. Best regards, --Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 20:47, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

I think it is a nice article and bordering on C-status. My main reasons for assigning it start-status was that, in my opinion, more sources of different origin could be provided and that the technical description could be enhanced. If you compare it to the article about Unimog 406, which to me indeed merits C-class, you may know what I mean. If you do not agree, by all means, feel free to alter my assessment. BTW, I do like your Unimog articles. Lovely machines but a pain in the behind when in front of you on a narrow road. :-) Ekki01 (talk) 21:01, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

I was One of the reasons for

Hello Ekki01, you were one of the reasons for ...? Well, for C-class, an article requires either "reasonable topic coverage" or "suitable references". I agree that the technical description section is somewhat sparse, but one could count it as "sufficient". On the other hand, the references are not too bad, at least not in my opinion: Proper books, (three books in total), not some weird online-sources with questionable reliability. Don't you think? Best regards, --Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 07:40, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
If you want to increase it to C, please feel free to do so. It's not against the rules or etiquette. Ekki01 18:03, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
