NYC Meetup: You are invited!

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, finalize and approve bylaws, interact with representatives from the Software Freedom Law Center, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the June meeting's minutes and the September meeting's minutes).

We'll also review our recent Wikis Take Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wikipedia Loves Art! bonanza, being planned with the Brooklyn Museum for February.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

Age category

Matel Tov Elipongo,

I just reverted your age tag in the Kurt Kaiser article. I realize it was a well meant addition, and to be honest, it's pretty neat. However, my understanding of WP:BLP (which could be wrong) is essentially, if I don't have an article that doesn't backup what I'm saying about a living person, it can't be in the article, and that includes extrapolating their age based on a birth date (with year included). Like I said, I may be wrong on this, and if you think I am, feel free to tell me. In the mean time, I've reverted that tag and category from the article. Toda Raba! Hi! Do you mean this change that you made? Frankly, I don't agree with you; the policies you cite specifically disinclude things such as simple calcuations. Elipongo, yep, that's the change in question. WP:MOSBIO states that the template age which is what was used, is not yet an approved template, but rather, is under disussion. Also, removing it, but keeping his date of birth is consistent with MOS and WP:MOSBIO. My understanding of MOSBIO and WP:BLP (and again, I may be incorrect) is that if there's not a source that can back up something about that person it cannot be included no matter how obvious it is. While simple mathematics, itself, is not OR ( I see we agree on this - btw ), using that to calculate someone's age could be considered OR. That's why it was removed.

Because I'm not overly familiar with WP:BLP I usually err to the side of caution with that. If you think your read of policy is correct, by all means, start a discussion, if consensus favors your side, then by all means, I'll keep my hands off that template. I figured you would work that out for yourself eventually, that's one reason why I didn't push the issue- that and the fact that I've been in the process of moving to New York City. Professional Fraternities and Sororities

Hello. I wish to discuss with you Title IX as it applies to prof fraternities and sororities. I have been researching this subject for quite some time and have been in contact with the Dept. of Education and the Office of Civil Rights. Both offices have clearly stated that Title IX does not apply to the groups at a university. That is clearly stated in the Title IX legislature. The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be holding a Wikipedia Loves Art! meetup on Friday, February 27 from 5-7 pm in the Kogod Courtyard. This is a photography event involving Wikipedians, along with Flickr users and others, to generate content for Wikipedia. Come share your experiences, meet the other teams, and take some photos! While RSVPing isn't necessary drop Jeff Gates an email if you're planning on attending so he can get a head count: gatesj (at) si.edu. There also is a signup list here, along with detailed information. The museum is conveniently located across from the Gallery Place-Chinatown metro station.

DC 6th Meetup (March 7)

The DC 6th meetup will take place on March 7th at Pizzeria Uno's at Union Station, one level up from the main floor. The meetup will start at 5pm, and people usually stick around there for several hours. You can RSVP at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 6.

With all due respect to the above I respect the need to keep information regarding UH in Wikipedia objective and factual. An objective factual Wikipedia appropriate piece will serve to expand the knowledge of people throughout Israel and in fact throughout the world who want unbiased reliable information. Needless to say this factual approach will also be helpful to our organization by presenting the facts in a neutral respectable fashion.

In short how can I get info posted in away that is acceptable AND one that will not be taken down in short order. I am not clear as to why Dovid (who's link is dead) did not like my post. How can I see what my edits were?

I would be happy to submit my edit's to you for prior review to get your experienced feedback.

Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)

WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

WikiProject Connecticut Photo Contest

As a member of WikiProject Connecticut, you are invited to participate in the WikiProject Connecticut AUTUMN 2010 Photo Contest!

Rules:

You must take the picture yourself; adding public domain pictures (i.e. postcards from pre-1923 that are on a website) will NOT count. The picture cannot already exist on Wikipedia, in Commons, etc.
The picture must be of something notable for a CT rated article and be of decent quality.
You may not add more than 5 pictures to any one article during the contest.
All photos must be uploaded and added to their articles. If it wasn't added to the article and titled, it doesn't count.
All submissions must be made after 12:00 UTC (8:00 AM EST) on September 15th, 2010 and no later than 23:59 UTC (7:59 PM EST) on October 31st, 2010.

Everyone who adds 15 pictures will earn a barnstar, and the editor who adds the most pictures will earn a special unique barnstar!

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
