Requesting an IP address block exemption, because (Hello. I'm a brand new user to Wikipedia. I've been reading for years now, but finally decided to contribute. After ton of research, I've finally started to understand why I was blocked and consulted my network man. Apparently the owner of the computer network I use masks his computers with a Proxy Server or something to that extent. I'm not really sure what I've done wrong to be honest. I'm really put off by this. I've not even had time to edit one thing due to my busy work week and I log on tonight to see this awful message that I'm blocked from editing because of something with my IP Address??? I honestly only wanted to explore the community and see what it's all about here. I'm usually very shy about joining online communities due to this kind of thing. Someone somewhere either being mean or I'm simply not wanted around so understand how this feels...Please. I've chosen to join here because Wikipedia seems very accepting to new users, but this experience makes me slightly concerned, being jumped on and not even having edited one post. I mean, if I'm already being fussed at for something I've not done, just think what I'll hear if I make a tiny error somewhere online I'm sorry also if this is the incorrect way to respond post a message, the instructions were sort of vague, but I think I've got it. Requesting an IP address block exemption additional information included, The following information is from the message text telling me I'm blocked. As for the IP Exemptions, it's all right there in the message I'm going to paste. It explains that's my issue, and if you check my user logs, if that's even possible, you can see I read all about it. I at least wanted to understand why I was getting this error. The interesting thing is, sometimes I don't get the error. Sometimes I check the page and it's gone, other times it's there. Anyway, here is the text from the error. Thank you again for your time. Also, if I'm doing this edit wrong, please just let me know. This is a very new and interesting way to edit and exchange messages. :)

Oh my! :O Now two Administrators are involved. Guys, I'm so sorry to have caused such an issue, and I feel really bad I'm taking up time from other important things you could be doing. If joining caused all this issue, then I do indeed feel awful. I sort of just wanted to poke around here and there, perhaps correct some spelling and grammar, I'm good at that. - Hello, looking at your request and technical data I see some things that are not right. This is only preventive as we have people who have abused the network your on before. Can you tell me whether you are editing at home or at work? Also, could you ask your network man if you are using any special software to encrypt your connection? Hi. I think I have the information you need, and thanks again for your help...I feel really awful I'm troubling you guys with this. Okay, my network man is Rockey and he has provided me with some information that may help. He's also done a great job elaborating on exactly what you guys are doing here, and why I'm having so much issue simply trying to join. As for where I am, I'm at a home office in Staunton Virginia. I pay Rockey to manage my network for me. He has a server set up in the basement, and we use a program called HideIPVPN to keep my location safe and my data encrypted. I'm glad you posted today, as I was actually talking to him yesterday evening in great detail about this issue trying to figure it out.
He's explained to me in the past, but I've talked with him again for a little refresher in the way the computers here are set. HideIPVPN is a private subscription service for which I pay to keep my business dealings, credit card transactions and other data safe. Actually, the interesting thing is, the program seems to be working, or at least it seems so now. Up until this point, I've never had any proof, but you guys asking for technical data and all that seems to indicate it's at least keeping me safe to some degree.
Now, I've taken the time to further educate myself using Wikipedia oddly enough all about Proxy computers, how they work, and what they do...with a little technical explanation from Rockey. :)
The following is a little obscure to me, but here is what I've learned from him. We use something called a Domain Controller which apparently manages the entire network connection. We run software on that system to mask the network, that's the HideIPVPN. Also, we've contacted HideIPVPN, and what you tell me about someone abusing Wikipedia on my network is impossible according to them. They said they assign a "static address" to each "server" you pay for, and that's yours apparently while you continue to pay for your service. What you're essentially telling me is that the previous owner of this address was a bad user, and I'm not aware of how long it's been since you've checked, but that address belongs to me now, Emylou Nichole. I pay for the HideIPVPN service on Rockey's recommendation, and according to them all my IP addresses, which they sent me in a list if you'd like to see them, are mine to keep for the duration of my service. I have no plans on canceling the service, so the addresses are going to be mine for an indefinite amount of time.
Finally to your last question. No, nobody has ever used Wikipedia on my home office network, not at least as a registered user or to edit. Now, I've been a reader for years, since I was a young girl in college, but I'm older now and feel I can responsibly edit and contribute. You won't see any large articles out of me most likely, as I'm usually very busy but I do enjoy checking others work as far as writing goes. I'm not that great at writing myself, but when I'm reading another persons work I'm good at catching errors. :)
In closing, I feel the need to convey the following to you. I've read all about new users here, and that's part of what lured me in. Wikipedia seems, at least on the outside, to be very welcoming and accepting to new users. I'm quite a shy person so this meant a LOT to me. Problem is, I don't feel it. In fact, I feel sort of outcast and unwanted, as if I'm being punished for something I know nothing of, being blocked before ever even doing one thing. How is a user supposed to prove them self if they don't even have the free chance to do good? :(
This has been an absolute headache, not only for you, but for me...what with the added stress of burdening someone else with my online issues as well as trying to figure out this whole IP debacle. Not one single site on the entire of my online life has EVER given me so much issue, yet seemed so welcoming. I'm writing this because I want it noted in words how awful this feels for me. I've always been taught to be honest with others, so I'm being honest with you. Please do not take offense, but you must understand from my stand point how awful this feels. Understand when Banks, Creditors, Online Shopping Company's as well as Customers of mine never convey an issue, when real, serious money is on the line, how shady it looks that the Free Online Encyclopedia, Wikipedia is so unwilling to let me edit a single punctuation mark.
I'll be frank. I'm a very busy woman these days, on the computer most of my day trying desperately to make a living. I have little time to deal with issues such as this anymore, but I still try to find time. IF you (Wikipedia) is simply not able or unwilling to help me then please, in your next post elaborate if you would on how to delete my account. I feel very odd here now, and out of place. One can hope that this can be salvaged, but Perhaps this is not the place for me...who knows. I may never have the chance to find out. I do want you to understand though how grateful I am for you taking the time to help me. I'm sure you're much busier than even I, and as someone who understands what it is to work all day long, believe me when I say...Thank you. YAY! Thank you all so very much for helping me out! It was very wonderful of you all to spend your valuable time to help me, and I won't forget what you've done for me. Thanks to ALL the administrators who were involved, with special thanks to DeltaQuad. I'll start doing a few basic edits here and there to get the hang of this as soon as I can, perhaps even tomorrow. My goal is to try to fit a few hours a week in to editing errors I find on Wikipedia. :)
