Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, ElricFullMetal. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.GDX420 (talk) 13:58, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. GDX420 (talk) 14:08, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @GDX420:, thank you for correcting me here. However, I want to clarify that all I know about Golding is that he is related to the jeans industry. I have no affiliation with him whatsoever. Again, you helping me progress in my Wikipedia journey is highly appreciated. I would be careful regarding such edits in the future. ElricFullMetal (talk) 14:52, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya mate. So basically, what it is, someone, naming no names, was going around all the freelance sites trying to find someone to add information about a certain rock art book into the page, a load of copyrighted content and some promotional PR statement along the lines of "the Eric Clapton of Denim". The book probably isn't notable enough for Wikipedia so adding it into the article will only serve to promote the book without really improving the article. Now clearly I was in the wrong, but I feel I owe you an explanation anyway. Having seen this edit where you added in something along the lines of "the Eric Clapton of denim" and then did this edit about his rock art book where you described his rock art collection as inspirational and even capitalised the word "Inspirational" in a manner akin to a professional copywriter. These edits coupled with the timeframe suggested to me that you carried the torch from just about every other epimerc on Upwork. However, the good people at the conflict of interest noticeboard have absolved you and therefore I would like to apologise. You were clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. Please forgive me. GDX420 (talk) 15:03, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey,GDX420, thanks for the clarification. I didn't know the background story, so, really sorry for that. ElricFullMetal (talk) 09:36, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red[edit]

Hi there, ElricFullMetal, and welcome to Women in Red. I see you have already written a couple of interesting women's biographies and hope there will be many more. You might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:56, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ipigott thanks for reviewing my work. I must tell you that the Women in Red project is an amazing job. Being someone who has actively engaged in promoting women, I love what you guys are doing. Now, my initial idea was to keep looking into areas of interest that include sports, business, and entrepreneurs this is something that has given me a new perspective. Given you have seen my work, is it ok if I get in touch with you for any future articles regarding how I can make them better when I initially submit them?ElricFullMetal (talk) 18:44, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Just let me know if there's anything you think I can help you with. You can of course always post any concerns or points of interest on the WiR talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 20:53, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

hi how are you ? can we talk outside Wikipedia if you have facebook or telegram to talk ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Accountnoname (talkcontribs) 13:52, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what is it regarding?

Dax draft[edit]

You had two refs, each used twice, that were actually one source in two newspapers, so I did a ref fix. No changes to any text. David notMD (talk) 12:54, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey David notMD, first of all, cool username :D. Secondly, thanks a lot. Really appreciate it :-) ElricFullMetal (talk) 12:39, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. I went on to delete two interview refs. Wikipedia does not consider interviews as supporting notability nor substantiating facts, as the subject of the interview can say anything about themselves (I, for example, consider myself handsome.). I suggest while waiting for a review that you look at the refs. Wikipedia favors quality (substantial content about a person written by an independent source) over quantity. The latter includes refs that are only brief mentions of the subject, and as noted, interviews. David notMD (talk) 12:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

ElricFullMetal (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have no relationship whatsoever with DoshNomad. All the pages that I have worked on are voluntary contributions and have not taken any payments for it. I understand the strictness about transparency on the platform and have fully adhered to it. I have sought help whenever and wherever I could from experienced editors. I was currently taking time out to contribute towards Good Articles, which I believe is something someone working covertly for undisclosed payments wouldn't even bother with. I am not really sure how all of the ublocking process works, but I had to take a lot of time out almost every day from my schedule to contribute to Wikipedia as part of the many voluntary activities I perform. Getting my ID blocked for something I am not even guilty of is kind of unjust. I don't know how this link was established but it is unfair, and I strongly believe actions like these will only lead to scaring away new editors from Being Bold. Kind of disappointed by this whole fiasco but I am ready to provide proof (if need be and if I can somehow realistically manage to provide it) that I am not being paid for editing on Wikipedia.ElricFullMetal (talk) 14:00, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline as stale. You are welcome to make a new request that addresses the discussion below. 331dot (talk) 09:15, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Setting aside the relationship/no relationship with DoshNomad (currently blocked), it can reasonably be inferred from your article creation behavior that you are an undisclosed paid editor. You registered with Wikipedia on 10 Feb, and then starting on Feb 12 created an article about Merrin D. Garretson. Then, between March 19 and April 10 you created eleven short articles on people or businesses that have no connection with each other - different countries and different careers - strongly suggesting that this is paid work for which you are given assignments and a handful of possible references to create articles. MER-C has converted most (missed Hatsuye Yamaguchi and Berrell Jensen) back to draft state and tagged as possible undeclared paid. David notMD (talk) 19:13, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Additional concerns: After you have created these articles, User:Lenticel follows by assigning Categories and User:Ipigott does some clean-up. Ipigott is also extremely active converting the classifications of scores of articles from Start to B-class. David notMD (talk) 19:20, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am not sure about the kind of link you are trying to create here. I have been actively working on projects as part of the Women in Red project. Now, I don't recall any kind of communication between me and Lenticel but Ipigott has been a major help for me during my time. He has been helping me improve as an editor. Now, I am not sure how exactly the sockpuppet thing works here, but from the argument you have just given, no other experienced editor should act as a mentor for inexperienced people like me. One should not create pages that are start/stubs. One should only work on B-Class, GA, FA, because somehow only those pages are worth being on Wikipedia or something.

Now, two things, I had recently talked about moving towards writing better articles and that is where I came to know about Women in Green. Given my lack of experience, I could not have possibly ensured that I could work on GA right away. This is why I sought help and that's what I got from Ipigott and a few others. Being nice here doesn't help us. I guess having lived in multiple countries also works against an editor here. I don't even know what argument I can post here after seeing your premise. Not being disrespectful, honestly. But I am super discouraged and disappointed. Secondly, I understand that you might have noticed something that's suspicious but when I initially was doing my research I came across an article here about accounts that contribute towards specific topics can also get scrutinized. One of the reasons why I also held back. Can't seem to find the link, but I think you'll understand what I am talking about. I have used requested articles tab to contribute as well as use the women in red project. There are other works in process too. If you want to help me, let me know how you can do it. That I would truly appreciate. I wouldn't like to be discouraged any further. Really sorry if you find anything that I wrote above to be offensive. ElricFullMetal (talk) 20:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ipigott MER-C David notMD, I see I have been indefinitely blocked from editing on Wikipedia. Is there a way this ban can be reverted? I don't really know why have I been linked with Dosh, but since you all have found some sort of pattern that I still fail to understand, I am more than willing to change the behavior, if that can result in the removal of the ban/block. As I said above I had come across the single purpose account thing during my reading of how things work here. I have reached around 200 edits and so many article contributions already, and I know setting up another account is obviously not the best idea either. But if there is any way I can have this account reinstated please let me know. Thanks ElricFullMetal (talk) 12:58, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am not an administrator, and so have no say in your unblock request. DO NOT START ANOTHER ACCOUNT. That would be considered block evasion, and thus grounds for an immediate block. David notMD (talk) 13:36, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ElricFullMetal: As far as I can seen, you are no longer blocked. You can edit in the normal way. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:49, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, you don't appear to have looked very far. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:56, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
David notMD Yes, I figured that out. That's what I'm trying to figure out a way out of this whole mess please. Getting linked to an idiot and losing all my effort feels bad tbh. And that too for something I am not even doing. I don't need a few peanuts worth of money to do something and contribute towards education. I do pretty well as it is. Just like spending a few hours doing something here a few days a week.ElricFullMetal (talk) 15:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone please look into this? I don't know who DoshNomad is. I have no links with him. I would highly appreciate if my ban is lifted and I am allowed to contribute as I used to. I would like to change whatever was wrong with my editing patterns to ensure I am complying with Wikipedia's policies. I am ready to learn and move forward in this journey. I have been suggested not to make another account either, what else is there that I can do? @Ipigott: @David notMD: @MER-C: @Boing! said Zebedee: ElricFullMetal (talk) 23:12, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As best I can see, your unblock request has not yet been acted on by an Administrator. Your counter-argument to the suspicion of being paid is that your choice of topics stemmed from "I have used requested articles tab to contribute as well as use the women in red project." An administrator will be able to check that. David notMD (talk) 23:18, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that you added a link to Amy Creyer on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Photographers and immediately created an article on her right afterwards. You did this several times, including for Draft:Dinah Lilia Mansour Mourise as well. Usually people don't fulfill their own requests for an article to be created. Can you explain your actions here? -- King of ♠ 03:25, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other questions: if you are motivated by diversity, why are you creating articles on male entrepreneurs (e.g. Draft:Damien Lee (entrepreneur)) and companies (e.g. Draft:BUILD IT by Design)? This is the LAST thing Wikipedia needs in terms of countering systemic bias. Speaking of which, there's also Xszamankax and Mr Lee's Noodles which are in themselves suspicious. Your motivations don't add up. MER-C 10:28, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed; had only edited once in 2020, then becomes active again in early April, contributing to the newly created Damien Lee article. I don't know enough about the DoshNomad case to comment on that connection, but in any case your editing reeks of WP:PAID. Are you denying that any relationship with the subjects of the articles or their representatives? OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:12, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Xszamankax is almost certainly a UPE per off-wiki evidence. They're now blocked. MER-C 18:02, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, King of Hearts MER-C, Amy Creyer was a page that I picked from somewhere on Wikipedia. It was somewhere in the requested articles page as far as I remember. I added it here because it fell in the scope of Women in Red project. Now coming to Dinah Lilia, I created a page for her because her organization legit rescued kids from trafficking and she was talked about on several discussions. She is closely related to the former president of Egypt as well as the Chief Justice of Egypt. Her works were covered online and after my search I thought I should go ahead. Now, coming to Damien Lee, having spent some time living in different cities in England, and knowing airports and train stations well enough, I guess there is hardly anyone who doesn't know about Mr Lee's Noodles. Damien Lee is the founder of the company, he is widely covered on the press and Mr Lee's Noodles already has a page on Wikipedia. As I said before, I and my parents fly and move quite a lot due to the nature of their work. I am not an avid traveler but I guess life has kind of made me one. Nonetheless, I know a lot of people, mostly because my father is supposed to be a big shot exec and he discusses some of his associates over breakfast or dinner (whenever he does it with me). Which is the entire reason why you might find me being soo random with my contributions alongside the Single-Purpose Account rule I read about here. I very well know that my editing must have a lot of issues and whenever I went on to read discussions and talk pages of a lot of articles, I always wondered that for some reason I was doing better than a lot of more experienced guys. Certainly not the case here anymore, I guess. I even asked about one of the people I found a redlink about named Michele Adair, because I was not sure if she met the notability criteria. This was someone I randomly stumbled upon and Ipigott and another admin told me that she cannot go on Wikipedia so I quit the idea. I don't think anyone getting paid for their contributions would ever not try to create a page, would they? Almost all the people and things who everyone knows about is already here. So that leaves new guys like me to contribute to articles that cannot really classify as good articles. Moreover, I was even looking to create GA's as discussed with Ipigott because I know I have to keep growing here to become a respectable contributor. I can only request the admins now to look into my case, and help me get out of this mess. I honestly want to keep contributing and would love to have any of yous as my mentor. Ipigott was doing the same, but I didnot try to bug him a lot because it seemed I was being clingy. I am sorry if my behavior here somehow violated policies, but I can guarantee that it is merely a misunderstanding more than anything! Thanks. Hoping for a positive response. ElricFullMetal (talk) 14:18, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have an observation as well. I noticed while reviewing Draft:Dax Dasilva that one of the sources you cited was accessed on 8 April, two days before you created said draft. How did you manage to access a source on a day you logged no edits? SamHolt6 (talk) 18:43, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @SamHolt6:, that could well have been a mistake/typo on my end because the reference was manually added because it was a pdf file and they require me to add such references manually. Hope that answers your concern? ElricFullMetal (talk) 13:25, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note[edit]

User:EdJaUno has been blocked as a sock of User:ElricFullMetal on the basis of technical evidence, which should make this discussion moot. It should be noted that EdJaUno made disclosures on behalf of User:DoshNomad (who Elric repeatedly denied any connection to) at Talk:Horizn Studios, and also noted in said disclosure they were paid by the same company. EdJaUno also disclosed that ElricFullMetal was paid to edit Brian E. Kinsella at Talk:Brian E.
