Support !!![edit]

You have a BIG, ENORMOUS support from my side !! This tool is a GREAT IDEA, I hope more people will improve it ^0^y Yug (talk) 22:57, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

<sad>I copied your monobook.js, but that don't work for me.<sad> I got to sleep and retry tomorrow ! Yug (talk) 23:37, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did nothing, but that work now. I guess it's just a memory issue (need to restart firefox ?).
Some advice: * keep your popup with almost no words. Make it Short. A basic rules is to avoid chartjunk. So, at least :
  • change « English->French » ; by « →fr: ». We are on wiki en, so write 'English' is absolutly not need ;
  • make it react a bit faster ;
  • delete the « close window » sentence, it is useless since you provide a close button on the top right corner ;
  • use an icon to replace « Source:Google: Translate Page? » ;
  • Chance the background colors to soft green or soft blue, like Pera Kun do. To really don't look like Popups
I go to visit a friend in 5 mins, I come back in 2 days. Yug (talk) 15:05, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translate text: yes, I noticed this tool. But I'm not really interested by such tool which make bader translation than what I do. I will use your tool to assist me, and translate the somes words I don't understand clearly or which I never learned. Yug (talk) 00:06, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job. I understand your concern for google, but if you don't delete it, then use <small></small> to display all not necessary sentences. Display in the bigger size the content that the user is really looking for.
For the rest, I think it's not enough, but that's my taste: wait more feed back to continue to improve it. ;)
Good luck in this project, which I already use daily ^0^y --Yug (talk) 18:53, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on a computer using the google translation popup. I notice that for the word 'display' Google simply return :
[icon] display: exposition, étalage, affichage, exposer, montrer.
while your popup return:
->FRENCH    X
afficher
Source:Google
So:
On the shape : google stay really chartjunk free.
On the content: google display the former word ('display'=English)... and several possible translations.
So, I get encouraged in my opinion to avoid chartjunk and reduce the content in your popup : FRENCH -> →fr ; Source:Google -> g. If your script may also display several translations, that will be better. Yug (talk) 15:01, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

feedback[edit]

Hello, my feeback :

  • Since the SHIFT lock the opening of your pop up, it is no more need of the 2sec delay. Please reduce it to Zero to provide an instant translation. Time matter a lot.
  • I still think your box have Chartjunk, please replace :
    • -> by →
    • French by fr: (iso code)

Those 3 changes are, in my opinion, simply better : doing the same work, faster, with less polluting pixel messages.

After what :

  • I dont use it for Chinese->English : is your gadget available on zh wiki now ??? O.O !!!!
  • Good to see that you get the gadget status !! Good work !

Thanks a lot ! Yug (talk) 09:32, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to move this discussion to User_talk:Endo999/GoogleTrans. I agree an the delay and the arrow I but don't think it is a good idea to use language abbreviations. But please use lowercased language names (French instead of FRENCH) for the UI. There should also be an indication that clicking the language name opens up the preferences. Cacycle (talk) 13:30, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
French of fr? since the pop up windows will get open one by minute, 60times by hours, I think "fr" is enough.
SHIFT+1/4sec : good you added this !...
Add "Stop": ...but how to stop it now ? it pop'up at each word I fly upon now. Please, make that a 2nd SHIFT, or a LEFT-CLIC stop the pop up, then reallowing reading. A later SHIFT reactivating the process.

GoogleTrans now imported to nl.wikipedia.org[edit]

Hi, Endo999!

Firstly, Thank You for creating such a useful piece of gadgetry! It is a big help! I'm learning Dutch, and I have imported the Code for GoogleTrans into nl.wikipedia.org - I've had to modify the title slightly, since we have a rule that any personal .js or .css has to start with a small letter - You can see it in action if you wish, at .

Thanks again, If you have any questions, my home wiki is this one, en.wikipedia, so feel free to post me a comment or anything!

Thor Malmjursson (talk) 15:21, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me, Endo999. I am in talks now with the Wikimedia Tech team on IRC and with the Dutch Wikipedia Channel in the same place, to find out the procedure for getting it listed as an official gadget. I will get back to you as soon as I have anymore details. Regards, Thor Malmjursson (talk) 21:25, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE As of 03:12GMT this morning, GoogleTrans is now OFFICIALLY recognised as a Gadget on the NL Wikipedia, and it is present in the NL Gadgets list. :) Thor Malmjursson (talk) 03:16, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Endo! I actually managed to get it done, because I am learning to speak Dutch, and the guys in the Dutch Wikipedia channel on Freenode were assisting me. One of their Administrators, Krinkle, added the gadget, linked it in the English Help page, here and has also added it as a link in the Welcome message supplied to new users upon joining. He is also going to help me translate the interface (the "GoogleTrans (on)" thingy), and the documentation, into Dutch. In total, nl.wikpedia.org has about 3000 users whose understanding of dutch is either nl-3 or below, and a considerable number in most other European languages, about 2500 whose English is en-3 or lower, so the tool is gonna prove really useful to us. Especially when I'm adding edit summaries, etc. I've also given you credit on the Documentation page at nl.wikipedia, here. If you make any changes in the future, it would be great if you could keep me up on them, so I can amend nl's Gadget too :)

Chinese
Ubuntu 11.04 > Firefox : dict working ; speech working ; sychro perfect ;)
Ubuntu 11.04 > Chrome : dict working ; speech NOT working (the pop up appear, but is not playing)
For the sound quality : the sound records have a really low quality, even for just one character. That's the best you can get with such records.
Conclusion : good work done, pray to get better sound records. Did you tried http://swac-collections.org/download.php ? It's a fast developping free project for recording words. I know their chinese words sound better. Yug (talk) 07:42, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GoogleTrans spreads to hr wiki ;)[edit]

GoogleTrans is gadget also on hr wiki, thanks for *.wikipedia.org! It would be nice to have it like *.wik*.org (not regexp * of course, but star stands for 1-n characters), then it would work also on wikisource, wiktionary etc, but this is also great. I tried it first on hr.wikisource and saw that it is not working, with message: Access Not Configured, and some googling (Google again :) gave your thread about API V2. Of course, this is issue with Google, you have done great job, once again thanks! SpeedyGonsales (talk) 17:16, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for accepting the GoogleTrans gadget on the Croatian wiki. I hope it is useful to you there. Yes, there is a refer issue with Google language api v2 keys. I have generated a key that should be able to be used on *.wiki*.org but this key is not working yet, due to some Google issue. As soon as this is cleared up I'll post you and put the key into the en.wikipedia.org version so it is available to everyone.

Googletrans[edit]

Hi, [2] I have been informed that you wish to update nl:Gebruiker:BarkingFish/googleTrans.js. You have posted a request asking for an admin to do this. I do not understand why you need an admin for this. BarkingFish, who is not an admin, used to update this page apparently. I see no reason why you should not be able to do this. If you need an admin for anything else, just let me know what I can do. Cheers, Taketa (talk) 16:10, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Thanks guys, I have updated this Gadget, the code for which is stored on nl.wikipedia here - I'm sorry it's taken so long, but I have had a lot of stuff to do. I've just checked the API v2 version on nl.wp and it's working perfectly fine. If you have anything else you need, please let me know, and once again, apologies for the delay in completing the update!  BarkingFish  15:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The javascript code for GoogleTrans gadget is at

[[User::Endo999/GoogleTrans.js]]

It is public domain, as all wikipedia gadget code is. You are welcome to take the code and massage it into your gadget for wiktdictionary if you wish. Just remember to give credit to people for the code that you do use. As well, the fellow who has the gadget DictionaryHover (or whatever its name is) should be contacted to see what he says about you developing a gadget that is essentially similar to his.

If you wish to use GoogleTrans, as a gadget, on wiktdictionary or other sister projects, please contact me, as you need a special Google API key for non wikipedia domains.

You should probably put your post up on Gadgets::Proposals. Endo999 (talk) 02:32, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi , thank you for your suggestion. I mean is it possible to develop new gadget that uses Wiktionary definitions instead of Google translation? because for who know English (for example) as mother language it is not useful to translate it to Farsi or Spanish but he can use Wiktionary definitions en > en .Reza1615 (talk) 09:35, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Look at SCGoogleLookup() function in the GoogleTrans code. This is where the actual call to Google is made. It should be possible to do another call and get completely different content for the popup by changing this code. This code does a dynamic call to retreive a script file, which will call a callback function provided by SCGoogleLookup(). Endo999 (talk) 15:19, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for your help. i watch it but i couldn't get result from wikitanary! Reza1615 (talk) 17:54, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See {{Infobox military installation}}. You just created Fort de la Duchere and I just edited it. One of the main difference is |demolished= should be changed to |fate=. It's also no longer just a date. As you use Content Transcrapulator (CX), be careful of some of the difference CX does and what "should" be done. For example, CX leaves dates wikilinked, when it shouldn't be. Bgwhite (talk) 21:34, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gabrielle Meyer for deletion, because it seems to be vandalism or a hoax.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Rollingcontributor (talk) 18:34, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Sorry for the speedy deletion nomination. It was a mistake from my side, and has been reverted now. The article seemed to not contain enough evidence of significance, which led me to identify it as a hoax and mark it for speedy deletion. test of meaning in shona[edit]

The article Bina Ramesh has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Proposed deletion of Isabelle Bouloc[edit]

The article Isabelle Bouloc has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Minor suggestions for section 'The Implications for RSA'[edit]

Regarding the section/subsection 'Implications for RSA', would it make the equations easier to follow by adding parentheses where appropriate? I've also renamed the variable m as n. The final equation seems erroneous.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.89.11.242 (talk) 21:44, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments on my math blog. I will make your change from 'm' to 'n'. I think you will find the last equation is correct:

Take the mathematica statements

Mod[8467 39343 + 1, 83 83]
6476
Mod[8467 + 39343, 83 83]
6476

This happens because 83*83 is a factor of 8466*39342

buried in forts[edit]

Hi there. I am involved in the enormous cleanup of some of your earlier translation efforts -- at least I *hope* your latest no longer have some of these problems, because I have been telling pepple, that surely... surely you aren't still translating proper names. Anyway, I am currently trying to keep your fort articles from being deleted. To this end, I have a question about Fort de Caluire -- The middle section of the article has a diagram and talks about "pieces", which makes absolutely no sense, and has been tagged as such by someone else. The French is, to be fair, equally baffling, and uses the word "pièces" -- which could indeed be translated as "pieces". Or rooms. Or weapons. Or storage bins for that matter. I am just wondering whether while working with these articles you encountered some sort of clue to the meaning here. Do *you* have a theory what it means? An underground passageway with 61 rooms? Eh? It definitely shouldn't be "pieces" though, as far as I can tell. If you saw something I am missing at the moment please do let me know. Otherwise, my suggestion is that if there are parts the articles you're translating that seem odd, you should follow the part of the translation policy that says that we should not translate what appear to be errors. I probably am coming across as a scold but please do think of me as a very exasperated defender who also has used translation tools and hears a lot of criticism of the tools based on these types of translations. If you do not know what it means, my friend, you should not have "translated" it. It makes a lot of work for the wikignomes and they have plenty already. I have found some really egregious errors in these articles, and will be happy to discuss them with you in the spirit of constructive criticism. I think I will just delete the section in the meantime, in order to salvage the rest of the article, grumble. Elinruby (talk) 05:00, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We (the Research Team at Wikimedia Foundation) are building an algorithm that will align Wikipedia article sections across languages. For improving this algorithm we need the help of multilingual Wikipedia editors to provide true statements to the algorithm. (Note: by clicking the links in the following paragraph, you will be taken to Google spreadsheet.) If you'd like to help us with translating a subset of the section titles on or before 2018-05-06, please read and follow the instructions. you wrote on my talk page:

I looked up Dickson's History of Numbers vol 1 p215(Tonelli) and p218(Cipolla) and Dickson clearly shows that both modular square root algorithms can handle powers of prime modula (whereas the Wiki articles say they can only do prime modula).

I've updated the TALK pages of both articles with the relevant Dickson math, along with numeric runthroughs with Mathematica code.

However, I am not a professional mathematician so I hesitate to update the articles.

Perhaps yourself, or someone else in the Computer science field could update the relevant articles with this information from Dickson.
