US Trucking Industry Project[edit]

I'm interested in creating content about trucking industry compensation in the US. The current section under Truck Driver labeled "Compensation/wages" is miserably inadequate. I am new to this, so it will take me a while to get rolling. Once I do, though, I'd like to create a more complete article for Truck Driver Compensation and several related articles.

For my first contribution, I am going to add lists so that users can input companies that fit specified compensation criteria (i.e., a list each for companies that use household goods miles, practical miles, hub miles, and hourly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Driverpatriot (talkcontribs) 00:18, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not to rain on your parade, but lists are seen as the bane of wikipedia. They would rather you talk about a few companies and their techniques than have endless ever-growing lists of everything under the sun. You get the idea. That other stuff is a good idea though. But just realize the page "Truck Driver" is supposed to cover a world-wide perspective, not just the United States. Have you read some of the other pages that I've written? -- ErgoSumtalktrib 10:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback. No lists. I can live with that. I am about to create a website which will feature a database of trucking jobs and hopefully I can crowd source content. Is it ok for me to link the url on Wikipedia (e.g., as a 'further reading' entry or something)?

I read the Trucking Industry page. That was yours I believe. I'm gonna try my hand right quick at typing an outline of the things I want to pursue in the long term. I welcome your feedback on that list as you probably have some idea for how the US trucking pages should eventually look.

PS - thanks for creating talk page for me

One last thing. Do I need to ask or suggest or otherwise notify via discussion board my intent to revamp that Compensation/wages section?

Driverpatriot (talk) 16:49, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Normally I would but there isn't much activity at that article. Nobody really takes care of it, not even me, because it is such a mess anyway. But if you do something wrong, don't worry, it can be corrected with one click. You will not get in trouble for "good faith" edits even if they are against policy. --ErgoSumtalktrib 04:24, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good deal. I will get to that pretty soon. Trying to set up a wikipedia of sorts for driver jobs. Check it out: www.driverpay.info Would love some feedback!

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Notice

The article Owner–Operator Independent Drivers Association has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails general notability guideline; can find no non-trivial coverage in reliable independent sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Louisiana sign image[edit]

Dear ErgoSum88,

Smithsonian Folkways Recordings are currently in the process of developing a new series of curriculum materials (called Smithsonian Folkways Learning Pathways) for educators (mostly music and social studies educators). These unique resources place recordings from the Smithsonian Folkways collection at the center of the learning experience. These will be FREE resources for all educators, everywhere. Each learning pathway is a curated musical journey through a historical, cultural, or musical theme (e.g. Music of the Chicano Movement; Sounds of the Civil Rights Movement; Cajun & Zydeco Music; etc...).

As part of these learning pathways, we are creating interactive student slideshows that will help teachers facilitate learning experiences in any educational environment both in-person or online. We wanted to let you know that we will be using the 'Louisiana' image seen on your Wikimedia Commons webpage. We are planning to use the image for our 'Cajun and Zydeco' learning pathway. We know that the image is public domain, but any guidance on any restrictions would be greatly appreciated!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about any of the information.
