I was trying to figure out what your question was at Talk:Rockingham Township, Iowa. You seem to be doing a fine job on the article, it's not really necessary to keep a running record of all your edits. Also, edits on talk pages should be in order from oldest on the top to newest at the bottom. If you're looking for other editors to help you edit, there are some WikiProjects that might be able to help:

Also, re: if Rockingham was a Township or a village or a city and if the Township was annexed or not... if you cannot find a published reliable source for any statement, then that statement cannot be added to the article...leave the characterization of exactly what Rockingham was out until you can find a reliable source for it. Understood and thanks for the encouragement and information. Basically my questions range around the best way to lay the page out, what to or not to include, and getting better eyes than mine to glean information from the various references I have already. One second I think I read it right, and copy/paste the information into the page, pretty it up some perhaps, then ... ooops... that's not a very good page/that reading doesn't make sense in context with the rest of the page/etc.
I like the research, I like adding new pieces to the puzzle, and I am enjoying Wikipedia, but there is just too much for me to try and handle. I need someone to get/keep me on track. --ErikVKing (talk) 04:29, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

That Userbox from WikiProject Iowa can't really be used in your signature, it can be placed on your user page, but not as part of your signature. Per WP:Userboxes...

A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX) is a small colored box ...designed to appear only on a Wikipedian's user page as a communicative notice about the user, in order to directly (or even indirectly) help Wikipedians collaborate more effectively on articles.

In regard notability. This is a concept you will need to understand if you are going to edit on Wikipedia. It has a definition here WP:N. To explain a bit what that mountain of text says in simpler terms: If you cannot find reliable secondary sources such as newspapers, magazines and books about a person, they will not be deemed notable. If you have not addressed the concern that the bot posted above, your article on Ira Cook will probably be deleted. The article you have written needs to be rewritten in a narrative style rather than a raw listing of facts. And the listing of Ira Cook in the Rockingham Twp article is entirely dependent on the existence of the Ira Cook article. The section you added to that article on him was not anywhere near what the Manual of Style calls for. I will edit into compliance. The title should be "Notable people", the entries should include a wikilink to the subject and a short description. If people want to know more they can follow the wikilink. as far as the annexation goes...unless it is a fact, it shouldn't be here. Wikipedia only reports verifiable facts, not speculations. The page is a work in progress for me. I wanted to get the page in motion, as it were, as I figure out a better way to edit information that I have, as well as placing additional information as I find it. The web pages I have cited have more information, but I have yet figured out a way to re-write the information without another blatant copyright violation. I started out with the Rockingham Township article because I was very interested in the topic, and as I was looking through the information I garnered for said project, I wanted to expand upon the various people and places listed in or related to it. It seems I should have stuck with one article and perhaps requested the rest. There are just so many rules and regs involved within Wikipedia that it's hard to get things straight. I will try and take a look at the information you posted above in order to keep the page up and running, but it's unlikely I will be able to get to it tonight. --ErikVKing (talk) 01:20, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is more than a little intimidating for a newcomer, that is for sure. You seem to be on the right track with the coding, which is what gave me the most trouble. I have sent you a link to great place to go for help, the Teahouse. People there (I am one of the hosts) will try their best to answer your questions in very simple terms. Just remember what my Dad always said, "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!" The great thing about the Teahouse is that in many cases more than one host will answer your question, and the more ways something gets explained, the more likely you are to get it! I would not have survived my first week without their help and that is why I help there now. Another great resource is adoption. You get your own mentor who will give you a series of lessons and then be available to mentor you as you progress. And I will always be happy to help you with anything I can. Sorry if I was a little short earlier, but my ex had just dumped our sick 8 month old on me. Crying babies always take precedence! I don't do much with biographies except revert vandalism to them, but I am more than willing to help you expand the twp article. I left a message on the talk page there too. I have to say I agree: Ira Cook is not notable by the Wiki standards. I'll have to read more on the Notability page to see what I can do with the information I have gathered, the page it's on, and the section about Ebenezer Cook that was deleted from the Rockingham Township page.
