Hi & thanks for your message! I didn't know about the discussion option & am glad you have it (not interested in endless wars). Did you see my reasoning behind the simple removal of "resort" from the first line of the Bar Harbor entry? By Wikipedia's own "resort town" definition, it's when "tourism or vacationing is the primary component of the local culture and economy." But as I thought I proved But as I thought my source (a 2022 "existing conditions" report, put out by the municipality of Bar Harbor, proved, tourism is n o t the primary driver of the economy. I live in Bar Harbor and would further argue tourism is not The Primary Component of our culture either. Hello, I wonder if I could get your view on the seaside resort page? It stats a seaside resort is a town, village or hotel but not city? There are many seaside resort cities! Hi, I don't pretend to be an expert on these classifications and since I'm here arguing against pigeon-holing my town as a resort, I might be the wrong person for your question as you seem to want to move in the opposite direction--to include more, larger, towns/cities under the resort umbrella. Maybe though my point applies: any place that has other activities that define the majority of its residents' lives should not be labeled a resort. It's just gut feeling, but I wonder which cities are really first & foremost resorts. The article mentions Nice, on France's Cote d'Azure. I've been there more than once--it's a lovely city and tourism is surely huge there but it has a culture all its own too & museums & artists & many who d o n ' t make a living catering to visitors. Maybe it's about perspective--are we looking at towns/cities/communities too much from the outside when we label them tourist or resort towns? For me, living in a town struggling with overtourism, I'm wary of the outside perspective--feel it overwhelms the interior life of a place. Just my thoughts . . . Actually, too, on looking up "resort towns" last night, I discovered both Palm Springs and Gatlinburg are described as resort cities (Palm Springs as a "desert resort city"). I don't see why being "seaside" should disqualify a city as a resort any more than "desert." Eulenspiegel23 (talk) 11:13, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
